It's telling that in a series that's had 25 years of awesome moments, this one from from very early in the series is so enduring. It's really the first time that Luffy takes the initiative as the leader of the group, and the way that Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp fell in unflinchingly as Luffy began to storm towards Arlong Park was too cool for words. Easily one of the greatest moments in the series.

Indeed. I didn't have a lot of complaints about the live action, but the walk to Arlong Park, and how Luffy punches it down, calmly walks up to Arlong, and smashes him was sorely missed.

No, TotK easily. Way too much of BG3 is clunky, glitchy, or poorly designed to give it GotY, and honestly confused what so many are drooling over. I appreciate a well done story as much as the next guy, but there's a lot of chug to get it there.

I do not believe he will be. Polls are looking good for him right now, but tbh, polls have been over-representing Trump supporters for a while now. Democrats have overperformed in each election, especially against the Trump candidates. The more Trump you appear, the more Americans feel encouraged to vote in order to make sure you don't even accidentally get elected.

The recent favorable polls for him are comically off, like the one showing him +5 in Michigan, which is super lol. Honestly, the worth of polls to anyone should be well diminished at this point, never mind that polls a year out aren't worth a damn anyways, even back when polling in general was still kinda sorta trustworthy.

But hey, any motivation to get the vote out is fine by me, but realistic honesty is key. And the reality is, we're going on 4 years now of a total Blue Wave.

You're right in that I don't even know what the other states such as NM are up to on this.

IIRC, the biggest one moving forward is CO. But it's mostly blue states so far.

Again, I'm not a Trump fan by any means but look at the data. In 2016, Trump only secured 46.1% of the popular vote and received *almost* 63 million votes. In 2020, Trump got 46.8% of the popular vote but received an extra 11 million votes (74 million total) which is huge when you consider that Obama, a popular president, received millions less votes his second term than his first.

In fact, we've seen previous Republican (unpopular) presidents get a huge jump during times of war I.E. see Bush in 2000 vs. Bush 2004. As messed up as it is, the war in Israel/Palestine might cause a surge of Independents to vote Republican.

I just don't think it's as cut/dry as some would want.

His vote count total increased from 2016 to 2020 solely due to mail-in voting and broadly increasing voting access nationwide, and for no other reason.

Everything since then has decreased his popularity as a whole. It's impossible to say if his base is even "energized" by his legal troubles (whereas it has hurt him everywhere else), but it doesn't matter - his base is smaller than Dem/independents, and will have depressed turnout in 2024 (on top of Dems already having superior turnout in Pres election years).

I'm more curious why anyone would thing he'd do BETTER this time around, since there's no reason to think this would be true, in any sense.

Time to put this in front of the state Supreme Court.

Automatically, no. But currently challenges are progressing as-is. It's never really be tested before, but if Trump is convicted for 1/6 before the election, it'd be hard to deny that it would satisfy DQ'ing under the 14th.

Point being, Trump has a very hard climb ahead of him.

lol this topic. There's no reason to think Trump would win. Hell, it's unlikley he'll be on most state ballots, and almost certainly will be in jail (which yes, I know doesn't DQ one from running, but would almost certainly trigger a carte blac 14th amendment push nation wide).

There's every reason to think he'd do significantly worse, if anything, between right-wing voter depression, Blue Wave, how much more unpopular Trump has become, the fact that he already lost badly last time, etc.

To this day, still one of the best Luffy moment/moments in general. But Luffy has many more to come.

In a perfect world, everyone who already voted for Trump would be DQ'd from voting...ever again.

Another interesting stat from that article I linked is that among those that have committed DV, those that also own firearms tended to be more violent and more likely to use any weapon, even if their firearm wasn't actually involved in the incident(s). The article stops short of trying to draw any inferences from that statistic (as it should, since that's outside of its scope), but I'd interpret that as indicating that owning a firearm emboldens those that are inclined to do violence to go further than they otherwise would (which is also consistent with the statistical reality that firearm owners are more likely to be killed by gun violence).

Translated to the issue of DV homicide during a restraining order, it stands to reason that restricting the culprit's access to firearms reduces all homicide rates because the culprit generally feels less confident about enacting further violence. That's speculation, of course, but it seems consistent with the stats.

That's kinda been the common sense known, with the argument "violent people will be violent, with or without guns." It's simply not true. The ease to use/effectiveness ratio of guns means it allows crimes/moments of passion to result in violence very easily. The impersonal nature due to not having to be in close proximity of your target allows dissociation, too.

Compared trying to stab someone to death, and it's basically night and day. It's personal. It's messy. It's exhausting. It's very involved. And it's risky. This is why "mass stabbings", or murder by this method in general, is quite rare, even in countries or regions where access to guns make knives the next best option.

All that applies to suicide, too - momentary dark thoughts and easily translate into death with guns.

I'm not sure, but even if it is, that's the reason why a game like League of Legends is basically the most played in the world. For better or worse, they pop out content routinely.

Hell, plenty of entry-level places that DO require degrees/prior experience don't pay that.

IIRC, minimum wage with inflation should be something like $30/hour today. The big fight in the last 5 years or so to make it $15/hour is like half of what it REALLY should be. The smart thing would be index MW to inflation, so it automatically rises with the passage of time, but of course we can't have nice things.

You can figuratively count the amount of people that need guns to hunt to "sustain themselves" on one hand (more common would be guns for animal self-defense, a la Wyoming, Alaska, etc.) And even then, long guns like hunting rifles are seldomly used in normal gun violence, mass shootings, or otherwise.

There's basically no legislation that comes anywhere close to affecting these types of purchases. And while assault weapons/style weapons should be targeted, simple handguns still remain by and far the biggest issue, and have the probably weakest regulations.

He says he was making around $5/hour at age 13ish for a couple hours' janitorial work in local shops before school in 1971ish, and $10/hour at 14/15ish to do some seasonal logging work after school. First full-time job he thinks he started around $7.50/hour as a mechanic. I know it was enough that he had bought at least 3 cars before he turned 20, and a couple houses before he settled in the one where he still lives now by around 30. According to the calculator, that's a whopping $38.67 and hour...for JANITOR work...when he was fucking 13. Plenty of people in their 30's and 40's don't make that much doing more "serious" jobs.

By the time I learned about Cubivore as being something I was interested in, it wasn't readily available anymore, so I never got a copy. One of these days I'll acquire one, but it's not something that really keeps me up at night. Just a minor bummer.

I have Cubivore still. Saw it at a local Gamestop when the GCN was still being sold and snapped it up. It's actually pretty fun, even though I bought it more for a collector item.

Link speaking is a prime example of things weird nerds care about that do not actually matter in an adaptation. Link speaks in literally every non video game adaptation and has implied dialogue in most games. He's not portrayed as non verbal, the lack of written or voiced dialogue in games is strictly a dated element of the media format that is not seen in comics, manga, or shows.

Furthermore, caving in to fans over this trivial tradition from the games is the exact type of thing that would likely result in a bad movie.

More of the problem of how to get the voice right, than anything, since there's little basic aside from "HYAAHHHHS" and whatnot.

I dunno, hard to see how this could be good. CGI, maybe. And there's the whole "Link will have to speak" elephant in the room.

Then again, some live action ones haven't been horrible as of late (One Piece, Sonic...kinda).

I worked at a Subway for about ~ 3 years back in college. Yes, they called us that with a straight face.

But yeah, $5 footlongs were last a thing...10 years ago? No way inflation accounts for a nearly x3 price hike. Likely gouging. Then again, no sub style place anymore seems under $10.

As much as people kind of handwave this issue now because of how ubiquitous DVD players are, it was actually a pretty big deal in 2000. I know quite a few people that had a PS2 as their only DVD player for several years after it first came out, simply because a standalone player in 2000 cost almost as much as a PS2 did and didn't include a game system on top of it. By the end of the generation, DVD players were dirt cheap and it wasn't a big deal, which is why the Wii not playing DVD's wasn't a problem, but combined with the PS2's 1-year head start it definitely gave it a substantial competitive edge at the beginning.

Yup. That and the year head start was a monumental advantage, easily more than any other singular reason. That, and the PS2 was a notoriously shoddy system, prone to breaking and errors. Sony's warranty policy at the time was also basically "get fucked", so I'd easily estimate a couple of those millions in sales were from repeat buys. Virtually everyone I knew at the time were on their 2nd or even 3rd PS2.

Doflamingo is a top-tier character in the series, and stupid strong. Oda basically had to job him and have Law/Luffy team up to win.

I've never experienced a bug or any other kind of technical issue with a FS game.

but tbf, I only played the Souls games + Bloodborne + Sekiro + Elden Ring.

Tbf, it has more mechanical issues than straight up bugs at this point, but it still had/has many known, including crashes after it vame out. I had 2 instances of not picking up runes myself, one where it glitches to equal 0 and the other during the fire warm where the runes straight-up vanished from being picked up. Those 2 alone cost multiple levels.

Blaming this on the actor strike preventing proper promotion at Cons seems odd - that's the one group that doesn't need extra encouragement to see comic book movies. Promotion in general, sure, but The Marvel's was never slated to be a big hit.
