I saw that in a theater as well, I think. I don't remember it being that bad.
This should be qualified with me explaining that I *rarely* see truly bad movies, due to owning a very good BS detector when it comes to films. So even my worst-seen films might be a meh and a shoulder shrug to others.

That said, it was pretty bad. The story was a mess, and comic parts were very cringe, and it failed to capture the style and engagement of Sin City, which The Spirit was definitely paying homage to, fresh off of Miller's time with said movie. Some of the action scenes were fine, but it was fairly blrh.

Honestly, announcing MP4 was a mistake. An understandable one, since it sounds like they thought things were going to go more smoothly and then ended up completely flipping the table on what had been done prior to Retro's involvement, but they definitely jumped the gun on it.
Eh, I'm happy to hear it exists at all, since prior to that it was uncertain where the series a was going (especially after the dreaded Other M), and if the Prime arc was truly done.

But yeah, I'm sure that backfiring made them even more bearish.

Honestly, I kind of like that approach better than "here's a concept, it's probably coming some time next year but maybe not because we've really just started and we don't know how production will go." It makes delays less likely, gives people less time to hype themselves up to the point of inevitable disappointment (they will anyway, but at least 6-8 months of that is easier to recover from than 2-3 years), and discourages crunch because deadlines can be based on project progress instead of pressure from the public (and shareholders) to meet the date they were promised.
Indeed. Nintendo has been bearish that way for quite a while now. And as much as I want a screenshot, anything for Metroid Prime 4, it's pretty clear they are going to hold onto that tightly until they are ready.

Was not expecting XC3. Am very happy about XC3. I'm a little disappointed they're moving on without revisiting X, since there was very obviously an X-2 planned,

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, but obviously super hyped for XC3, was NOT expecting that so soon. And incidentally, I could tell it was a Xenoblade game right away, but thought it actually looked more like an X-2. The art style seems closer to that than XC2 for me.

Maybe Nintendo is switching to a news drop ~8 month out style, since that's what they did with Metroid Dread as well. Nothing, and then BAM, announcement, and "oh yeah, it's coming this year."

Lots of stuff to like here. I don't care about ports for Portal and whatnot.
-Never heard of Front Mission, but sign me up for Mech RPG games
-Ditto on LiveALive. Looks like a cool concept.
-Switch Sports? You know, I haven't touched Wii Sports in forever, but it COULD be pretty fun.
-More Splatoon is welcome. Not sure if I care much about the new mode, but it'll be a good way to get back into the series.
-Chrono Cross remake? Hell yeah.
-48 remastered courses for MK8 for only $25? I was resisting getting MK8 deluxe on Switch, since I own the OG on Wii U, and was gonna just wait until MK9 or w/e. This makes it seem like they want to stick with MK8 for a while, so getting it is enticing to me now.
-Sweet, Triangle demo
-Neat, a date for AW
-KH games would be amazing if not for cloud needed.

Sadly, never cared for the strikers game, but it does look fun. Ditto on Kirby games. And I just don't care for Dynasty Warriors type games.

Way to strawman, there. The GOP (correctly) being seen as racist snowflakes isn't mutually exclusive to their ability to reliably vote in non-national elections. This isn't new. Literally any pet social issue can be used, because Republican voters are easily baited and not very bright. That has zero relevance to anything being discussed here.

Ditto it being known that the GOP has successfully gerrymanded itself into relevancy, despite being the least popular party for 30+ years now. Which is why they are deathly afraid of HR1. That + the massive dying off of Republicans due to Covid would transform them into the minority party they've always been overnight. Stuff like HR1 IS the Dems doing something about the GOP threat.

How does nobody see that it's never going to end, because the people in power don't want it to. Just look at France. They have a roughly 90% vaccination rate. So what's the obvious next step? Why more restrictions of course! People need to stop and reflect on the kind of world they're creating. Everyone is rushing to an Orwellian dystopia with open arms. It reminds me of the same group hysteria everyone whipped themselves into after 9/11. Oh no! Keep me safe! There's terrorists around every corner!
First off, France's fully vaxxed rate is 75% - still very good, but not 90% - only 2 countries can boast that (UAE and Portugal).

2ndly, your premise "more restrictions = good for the government" instantly falls apart when you realize this is a *net drain* for France, as they have to dumb more resources and personnel into the issue, and restrictions on work times and hours decreases their tax revenue, making the government weaker, not stronger. You'd have a point if they were using Covid as an excuse to, say, install cameras inside everyone's home, but since nothing at all like that is occurring, the Orwellian claim is pointless fearmongering.

It's why Libertarians are the one group worse than Republicans as thinking *any* government actions is inherently evil is a crock.

Ozmose posted...
Based on all of human history. It's a pretty solid trend. When you yield power to a government they almost never relinquish it. If you want an example. Just look at the fact they're still renewing the Patriot Act and the MDAA 20 years after 9/11.
And yet the same government set up a system of turn limits, limited the way they can increase their own pay, and set up a voluntary transfer of power. Thus, the conclusion that all government must end in Authoritarianism is false.

Not that this doesn't mean there are plenty of areas of abuse, of course. But finding, rolling back, and preventing such actions is actual meaningful. Handwaving it is lazy and useless.

Unsurprising, and equally unsurprising the bullshit reasoning behind it. There are loads of examples of laws and rules from the past being applied to modern issues that could never have been predicted (1st Amendment protecting speech online, for example), so claiming that the 1970 OSHA law is null in this case is a load. But this is to be expected of a conservative court that never pretends to be logically consistent.

The upside and irony is, the only people suffering from Covid now are the unvaxxed, who are overwhelmingly on the Right, so the Right amusingly helping kill off their own gets to continue.

Steal it for Trump, but secretly certifying he won in states he didn't, and sign their names to it. How these people are arrested yet, I'm not sure.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/after-2020-trump-backers-forged-election-docs-three-states-n1287287

By Steve Benen

Wisconsin Republicans did not respond well to the state's election results in November 2020, when Donald Trump narrowly lost the state. In fact, after the state Supreme Court affirmed President Joe Biden's victory in Wisconsin, and it came time for state officials to complete the process, some Republicans went in an especially ridiculous direction.

It was on Dec. 14, 2020, when Wisconsin electors met in the state capitol for an official ceremony in which the state formally assigned its electors for the electoral college. There wasn't anything unusual about this: On the same day, every state did this, with Trump electors being assigned in states won by the GOP ticket, and Biden electors being assigned in states won by the Democratic ticket.

But as we discussed a couple of weeks ago, the process in the Badger State became a little messier: While the actual electors were being assigned inside the state capitol in Madison, a group of Wisconsin Republicans quietly held a separate, fake ceremony in the same capitol, at the same time to cast electoral votes for Trump, despite his defeat in the state.

They then proceeded to forge the official paperwork and sent it to, among others, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Archivist, as if the materials were legitimate. They were not.

As Rachel noted on last night's show, that's an important controversy in its own right, but what we didn't know until yesterday was that Wisconsin wasn't alone. Politico reported:

"As Trump's team pushed its discredited voter fraud narrative, the National Archives received forged certificates of ascertainment declaring him and then-Vice President Mike Pence the winners of both Michigan and Arizona and their electors after the 2020 election. Public records requests show the secretaries of state for those states sent those certificates to the Jan. 6 panel, along with correspondence between the National Archives and state officials about the documents."

I have three questions.

First, were these efforts legal? Groups of Republicans in three states signed their names to forged documents, pretended they were real, and sent them to government agencies. I'm not an attorney and can't speak with any authority on whether this constituted fraud, but I'll be eager to learn what legal experts have to say about the schemes.

Second, did these GOP groups have any outside help? The materials out of Wisconsin and Michigan, for example, were practically identical, with matching formatting and fonts. Was this an amazing coincidence or was there some kind of behind-the-scenes coordination? If so, who played an organizing role?

And third, exactly how many states featured pro-Trump Republicans creating forged election materials? We previously knew of one; now we know of three.

Trump lost 25 states in 2020. How many of them included election opponents willing to send fake documents to government offices?

Original article said 3, but it's apparently up to 7 now.

I loved MH3U, but I'd start with World or Rise at this point, and definitely World over Rise.

What makes World so good (among many, many things) compared to its predecessors is it streamlined a lot of things that make previous MH games a chore. Previous games, you'd have to grind yourself silly to get pieces you need for armor and weapons, only for them to be almost instantly outclassed when you kill and carve the next monster. World makes gear requirements way less annoying to get, and the abundance of skills means there's a lot of variety in completing Sets, or choosing gear that may have less armor, but enticing effects.

Also, having to watch the same 5 second animation to root for 1 Mushroom every time was cancer. Collecting/grinding pre-world was just SUCH a drag.

And as already noted, with evolving strains, Covid is gonna end up being like the flu, in that it will be here to stay and require yearly (at least) vaccinations to ward off.

If you play 2 and aren't good at it, RTS may just not be your thing.

And AoE III was/is kinda considered divisive, and I compare people whining about it akin to Smash Melee into Smash Brawl fans. Basically, it was *SO* different from Age 2 and moved into a new era (Colonial, so guns are prominent in combat), but the mechanics and tactics are way superior (especially since each Civ plays much different from each other), and the Home City component always for a huge range of strategic niches and specificity to be carried out. It's a bit more unbalanced though, and early game rushes became a huge focus point of the game, since units can be produced in batches of 5.

So basically, different, but I ended up liking it better. Even Age 2: DE just feels so dated now. I kinda wish Age 4 just re-did the Age 1 civs, with updated gameplay and mechanics, instead of being a kinda re-imagined Age 2. I'm getting into it more, despite it being an unbalanced mess and feels like a step back from Age 3 in some ways.

Oh,. and the Age 3 scenario is vastly inferior to the historical Age 2 scenarios.

I'm a 90s kid and it just doesn't feel right starting with newer ones.
Fair, but AoE II was also a 90's game (1999), and is better in every single way. There's a reason why it was/sometimes still is considered the best RTS of all time.

Curious why you're playing older RTS. As much as I love the AoE series, even AoE:DE still incorporates late 90's janky physics and gameplay.

NWH was more serious and had more far-reaching implications IMO. And definitely had a more downer ending than ITSV.

Like 90% of things using blockchain currently, it's a massive waste of time and electricity.

I'm too lazy to pull up the research articles, but if you enjoy ASMR, you're almost certainly on the spectrum.

It was already exposed that rightwing politicians that spread Covid BS have money invested in companies that manufacture treatments for Covid. So its to their benefit that more people get sick.
In Boebert's case, she's just actually that dumb.

It really does need to, though. They also shouldn't be able to own any investment properties, at least not if they're in a position to make decisions that will affect housing and/or commercial tenants. Also no presence on any corporation's board.
Pelosi just came out and said that's never going to happen. Sadly, run of the mill corruption like that is something both the Left and the Right won't let go.
