Ghostbusters is a lot like Jurassic Park. Only the first movie is any good and you wonder how the rest were even made in the first place.

Looks better than the last one. Looks like a more interesting and original plot than, "The villain from the first movie is back again."

Villain almost seems like a lich from Warcraft

Also, realistically, tons of people should have been impaled by those ice spikes. The fact it didn't happen to one person in all NYC is insane

Yeah, I liked the cast in that one, but as far as the story, it was like, "Oh, so this is Ghostbusters: The Force Awakens."

Btw, back in the 90s there was supposed to be a Ghostbusters 3 where Hell opens its gates and floods NYC with demons and ghosts

The Ghostbusters go into Hell and fight their way to Satan's throne to make him take all the spirits back to hell

I remember there used to be a script floating around the internet. But then cast members started dying cause they waited too long to make it

I bought Afterlife in September last year and haven't given myself the time to watch it yet. As for Frozen Empire, I'll be sure to not watch any more trailers after this one so I can see it without being too spoiled.

A (seemingly) original plot, the remaining OGs (seemingly) having meatier roles this time around, Patton Oswalt, and Kumail Nanjiani? I'm definitely intrigued.

Plus I liked the new cast they brought in for Afterlife; the only real letdown was that they didn't have much to work with outside of retreading the plot of the original and an endless parade of memberberries.

There were a bunch of scripts over the years. I remember reading a while back that the game used one of the possible GB3 scripts.

Honestly surprised they got Murray back for another one, I thought Afterlife would be the last time we would see his character. This one looks like it will be better than AL, too.

Im hoping Rick Moranis will make an appearance.

I heard nothing about Afterlife after it came out.

Oh, this is a movie? I thought it was gonna be a video game.

It's weird to see actual deaths come about because of the ghost's arrival. They kinda shied away from that in the previous films and this one is like, "People fuckin' froze to death!"

I just hope the villain is anyone but Gozer. They are way too dependent on him/her/them.

I think it will be some ancient winter god or something

The OGs need to rest and let these modern hollywood goons just continue to crap on classics. Dan Akroyd has completely lost the thread (go look up an interview with him from before the Ghostbusters girl movie came out) and Bill Murray looks like a cob web and I think his voice box is blown out

I'm gonna be honest, the roles of the surviving three members of the Ghostbusters team could just be them sitting on a bench farting and I would still be happy to see them.

I get the vibe that they're going to veer even harder into the Stranger Things-esque comedy / horror blend than they did in Afterlife. Which to me is fine, even if it reeks of 'that's what's popular now;' I like the new cast, but I don't think they can carry a pure comedy on their own, let alone one on the level of the OG Ghostbusters. As long as it's at least something fresher than Afterlife's nostalgia-fest, I'll consider it a marked improvement.

For the record, I didn't hate Afterlife; I liked parts of it, and saw there was potential for better movies in this framework. When given the choice between having my fandom shamelessly fellated (Afterlife) or aggressively shat upon (Ghostbusters 2016), I'm probably gonna lean towards the former.

• a film which doesn't try to be good, because it just knows it has to be better than the last sequel, and relies on a combination of trendiness and nostalgia

I'm curious how far that parallel is gonna go. Will this one have a little girl who turns out to be a ghost? Will the next film have giant ghosts only to focus on football-sized bugs devouring the world?

Is it really that weird, though? In the Ghostbusters cartoon, there were some villains who had some incredible powers, such as Samhain the spirit of Halloween, Sandman, and the Boogieman. And sure, the cartoon isn't the live action movies, but the cartoon is based on the premise of them, along with the same characters. I'm willing to accept that there's some supernatural creature with ice-based powers for this new movie.

Akroyd sounded like he was really phoning in his lines, but otherwise at least we're getting a proper new villain. I guess the series is just "stranger things with proton packs" now instead of "a mismatched bunch of losers fake their way to success and then have to actually pull it together to save the world", but you're never going to be able to properly recreate the chemistry of the original with a new cast anyway, so this new direction is fine I guess.

I hope they fucking tone down the nostalgia easter eggs from the last movie. It would've been a decent film if it didn't fucking shove "hey remember this villain from the first movie? How about this device? Remember this scene?", a lot of "member berrie" memes in it without being self aware of it.

I'm really looking forward to this, personally.

I'm okay with Patton being a Ghostbuster, honestly.
