The opening looked kinda crappy, the tattoo thing was interesting, and then it got crappy towards the end. Personally I'm not sure how they keep making the movies suck. Although the franchise's story is unnecessarily convoluted, the bullet point is that it's a fighting tournament with superhuman contenders. Simplest shit in the world. How the fuck do you mess that up?
That looks exactly like what the trailer is advertising, though. The story seems pretty straight-forward.

Most of us have likely seen it, but trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie due in April. Looks actually pretty good, in terms of the action and whatnot. Scorpion/Sub-Zero scene was pretty neat. Wonder how straight-laced vs. unintentional campy it will be, al la the first film.

As for the direct, it was pretty meh for me. There were a LOT of games shown, but to too many I was interested in/details of. I'll be getting NMH3, so it was nice seeing more of that. The Triangle Project game looks pretty solid, the combat looks interesting there. It's Square Enix, so it'll be a slog. Neon White and a few others, like the dodgeball game looked promising. Splatoon 3 seems...too soon? I'll get it, but haven't had time for multiplayer games very much.

No big AAA announcement was a let down, but BotW2 will be shown later. I would expect some Metroid Prime 4 news, too, seeing as how it's also the 35th anniversary of Metroid.

Depends on the source of said "salt". It's Smash, literally every reveal is going to have people whining because their dream pick of whatever source didn't make it in. Hell, Sephiroth was as safe as a pick you could get, and people still bitched.

The sword fighter complaint has been around, but I'm not sure what people expect: sword fighters are kinda present in a shit ton of video games, and are easily adaptable into a game like Smash.

Meh overall. No big AAA announcements, and pretty surprised there was no real Zelda/Metroid/Pokemon bundles or news aside from SS, since the former 2 turn 35 this year, and Pokemon turns 25. Year is young and we may likely hear more, but the only "big" news was Splatoon 3. I like the Splatoon games (although I don't play them enough), but it kinda feels early for another?

Triangle, Neon White look interesting. I'll be getting NMH3, so it was nice to see more. Pyra/Mythra I like in Smash. Never cared about the Mario Golf games, but it looks fine.

MH is one of those franchises where on paper it sounds like I'd love it, but I've never cared for the gameplay or mechanics. I think the camera angle (and iirc you couldn't really jump or something?) were two of the bigger turnoffs.
You should try MH World. I started off playing MH3 on the Wii, and did the 3DS game. It'd start off really fun, but I would always hit a wall around the mid-way point (after you start running into color variations of past monsters, like Pink Rathian), because the ratio of grindiness needed for armor to how effective it was was way off, and it would turn into a boring slog. Like, the armor and gear you would spend hours farming would be useless by basically the very next monster, especially since those games had a bad habit of making the armor sets prior to the next monster presented having weakness to that very element type.

MHW MASSIVELY streamlines the entire process, and gets you into the action way faster. The collection of resources, the requirements and lasting effectiveness of armor, everything just runs more smoothly and feels so much more rewarding. No more airlocks, a massive variety of monsters, and gorgeous graphic and new combat mechanics basically turns the series into what it always should have been.

I haven't touched it in months, only because I decided to try and make a dent to my 1st player Steam games, but it does a good job of giving me a reason to come back.

The film industry is not in direct competition with the film industries of other countries, whereas the auto industry is. Your union is against management, theirs is against management while simultaneously having to compete abroad.

A union worker in America wants to support his fellow union workers by buying domestic.

Edit: I mean someone who buys a car in most cases isnt gonna buy another one unless they need another one, whereas you can watch any number of movies.
Ah, I see what you're getting at.

That said, like I said, this applies almost exclusively the Teamsters (aka, the Transportation Dept., aka, the people who deal with automobiles in film), so it tracks. No other department in film cares and generally owns whatever. So, it's definitely more of a "yeehaw, America!" sort of thing, and less of a "Go Unions!" thing. It helps that most drivers in film come from farm/rural backgrounds, meaning the "yeehaw, America!" attitude runs deep.

My instinctive go-to is dual-wielding. Preferably with curved single-edge slashing weapons (scimitar, saber, cutlass, falchion, dao, katana, tachi, etc).

It also tends to favor my normal playstyle - in a lot of games where combat style choices actually matter, dual-handing tends to be all about weaker quick strikes instead of stronger power strikes (especially in games where the dual-hander is basically forced to use daggers instead of swords), and I tend to prefer speed spamming and stun-locks over precision impact hits. It's part of why most of my go-to fighters in Fighting games were usually the female characters (like Chun Li or Talim).

That also goes sort of hand-in-hand with the battle axe thing - the last time I made a Viking-flavored Barbarian character in D&D, I gave them twin handaxes (one of which did extra fire damage, and the other of which did extra cold damage).
Same. I gravitated towards Cervantes and Voldo in the SC series for this very reason (well, that an, undead pirate and, um, S&M gimp thing that is Voldo). Hell, I picked up and mained Pit in Smash Brawl due to his unique dual-wielding and ranged combos.

The lone exception is Monster Hunter, where I like the hammer - extremely slow, hard hitting, and easy to land stuns with,

The fun part is, we don't have to play the "what if game" - we already SAW the capital go on a armed lockdown in preparation for a BLM protest a year ago. For a peaceful protest that amount of nothing.

In comparison, it was KNOWN this riot would happen, and not only were the police unprepared, they LET THEM INSIDE the capital.

Which makes a lot more sense when you remember that the police and domestic terrorists are on the same side.

For starters, regardless of any questions about the morality of protesting violently, it's generally a lot more acceptable to protest police brutality, systemic racism, and a lack of accountability for law enforcement than it is to protest with the aim of undermining the entire democratic process by overturning election results that are - by every available measure - perfectly legitimate. Straight out of the gate, one protest is for a justifiable cause, the other is not (a subjective assessment, to be sure, but one which most reasonable people will agree with).

More significantly, though, calling last summer's unrest "acceptable" is grossly oversimplifying the situation and misrepresenting people's positions on it. The vast majority of people in support of BLM do not condone the looting, rioting, and other violence that has been attached to the protests, as much as far-right pundits would like to suggest they do. For the most part, the only time you'll see people being sympathetic toward violent BLM protests is when that violence has been instigated by police (and there's no shortage of videos out there of police assaulting obviously peaceful protesters), but even then the general consensus is "looting and rioting is bad, but I agree with the cause." The vast majority of BLM protests were in fact peaceful, as much as the media liked to fixate on the exciting violent ones. Many have been very quick to latch onto the violence for the sake of discrediting the movement as a whole, but those perpetrating the violence represent a very small portion of those protesting, many of which were only there for the sake of causing trouble and not because they feel any sort of affiliation with the cause.

Basically, BLM protests=good, BLM riots=bad, conflating riots with all of BLM=also bad.
To add, it has been *proven* that nearly all the looting and riot were NOT done by the actual BLM protestors, but random opportunists, taking advantage of the chaos.

Plus, the amount of crocodile tears is ridiculous. None of these people actually cared about looting and rioting. The Target CEO literally didn't give a fuck one of his stores burned down, and supported BLM all the same. Why should anyone give more of a fuck than the damn CEO?
