WTF did he do out of high school to be making a living wage

I asked my dad about his past wages. He says he was making around $5/hour at age 13ish for a couple hours' janitorial work in local shops before school in 1971ish, and $10/hour at 14/15ish to do some seasonal logging work after school. First full-time job he thinks he started around $7.50/hour as a mechanic. I know it was enough that he had bought at least 3 cars before he turned 20, and a couple houses before he settled in the one where he still lives now by around 30. Today naturally he's flat broke because he never had any idea how to save money.

lol this country is fucked, and Republicans are basically to blame.

Even if they were making like $4/hr out of high school in the 70s that's like $23 an hour today, which no place is hiring at that point without degrees and certificates and shit.

And they're hellbent on continuing to fuck it. They won't stop until America is an economic wasteland where the impoverished and uneducated masses cheer on public execution of women who miscarry and LGBTQ+.

In high school I had 3000 dollars in the bank. I told my daughter last night. she
makes like 35, Dollars an hour as a nurse, and is LIVING AT him, and we bought her car
and pay the car insurance, I think she pays no rent.

I told her she should have 30,000 in the bank, if I can do 3000 at 1.35, she
can do 30,000 at $35.

well she has like NOTHING.

I mean, if we could get UBI and a good social safety net (health care etc.) guaranteed for all citizens, along with employees being free to unionize, then I think scrapping minimum wage and "letting the market decide" could work.

But as long as one side literally needs the job to survive and the other side can treat employees as an easily replaced, expendable resource, the idea that just letting them negotiate would lead to the best outcome for everyone is sheer lunacy.

I keep getting older people who tell me the 1970s and 80s were worse because their mortgage interest was 15-20%.

You used to be able to be a grocery clerk and buy a two story house. Now you need to be married, have a degree, and work 50 hours a week

I dunno why boomers act like they have no idea what inflation is. Are they not living right now?
