I haven't played it yet. I plan on checking it out eventually though.

My game of the year is Alan Wake 2.

Haven't gotten passed the Goblin Camp, too many other games and such to really commit enough time to it.

I was sure it was going to be TotK. BG3 wasn't even on my radar before it came out.

BG3 is absolutely game of the year.

I haven't even played it but I think it is. I hear nothing but it being absolutely amazing. I'm gonna get to it after I clear this year up a bit

I can tell it was crafted with care (a few bugs/oversights aside), but it's absolutely not my kind of game. Pretty much figured from the start that it wouldn't be, with how much it reminded me of DA:O. Spouse seemed to like it, though.

I haven't played Mario or Alan Wake 2 yet, but of the major games I have played (BG3, Zelda, RE4, Spiderman, probably some others I'm forgetting) BG3 takes it

No, honestly it's a terrific game, but it's heavily hampered by having DnD be its baseline. Honestly that battle system is so dated, it was time to move on like a decade ago.

This year, I'd say it's AC6 or the XC3 DLC

Haven't played it and probably won't tbh.

I love the game but personally I couldn't complete it as Act III felt confusing and a lot of Baldur's Gate being a hard place to travel through sometimes. I'd never finish the final act because I was always scared of what was going to happen next and it felt like there was too much going on.

For me it would be Zelda ToTK but this is personal as I know BG3 is the better game and deserves all the love it is getting and more.

No, TotK easily. Way too much of BG3 is clunky, glitchy, or poorly designed to give it GotY, and honestly confused what so many are drooling over. I appreciate a well done story as much as the next guy, but there's a lot of chug to get it there.

Not mine, personally. I fell off with the game near the start of Act 2 and just never cared to go back to it. It objectively deserves to win but my personal GOTY is Alan Wake II.

yea, so far.

I'm still planning on playing through Alan Wake 2, but no matter how good that might end up being, it's going to take a lot to dethrone BG3, for me.

That's good for them, but it was the most enjoyable game this year. It also has as good of an attention to detail and numerous alternate dialogue and situation conditions that people love BG3 so much for.

Also I never trust fans for any opinions. They're long time fans for a reason, not because they just like good games in general

Not really. Part of my problem was a lot of stuttering issues in certain areas of the game. I can run more demanding games with no problem so not sure what's up.

Somehow I have much less fun exploring, talking or building my characters I was supposed to have, compared other Pen&Paper games.

It sometimes feels like I'm spending 80% of my play time turning and moving the camera around, instead of actually doing stuff.

I still havent even checked it out much. I keep hearing about it though, I kind of want to.

Not even close with the exception of there being story trees which have consequences. But the Larian story trees are like an aged to perfection fine wine where as Bethesda's are like common swill.

Gameplay wise BG3 is tactical turn based.

of games i've played that were released in 2023, it's not even top 5
