Who is the nobody you're referring to? It can't be Hillary. Her book is currently at the top of the bestseller list for both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. She has an audience, a big one at that. Now whether you think that's a good or bad thing would depend on how you feel about Hillary, I guess. Either way, it's disingenuous when people say no one should take an interest in the content she's putting out because clearly a lot of people are still listening to what she has to say and might be influenced by that.

What's not inspiring about 5 different powerful people who strongly disagree on many things coming together to promote helping others

Because it's basic common sense. It's no more inspiring than if the five of them all agreed to say that America's great or that it's good to breath. It's a public service announcement that nobody disagrees with. It sends a good message and highlights a good cause, but if this is "inspiring" to people then it's nothing more than a sign that we as a society expect absolutely nothing. That's the point.

Lol, I knew there would be some way that somebody would find a reason to shit on this act of compassion, before I started reading this thread. This reminds me of people I've seen (in my own life) who refuse to volunteer to help a good cause, but have no problem criticizing other people for helping because their donation wasn't "enough" or their labor wasn't done "right." Hehehe, amusing.

If they wanted to really mess with our heads, they could have written it so Pennywise saved Henry before he presumably would have hit the bottom of that well. If Pennywise kept him as a demented henchman-plaything and then revealed the adult version of Henry, it would be an absolute shock to the Losers. I'm thinking that could be how they explain Pennywise still being able to feed, at least enough to survive, since Henry could've been down in that hole with him.

This new feature will confuse different people. And, no, not just the racist ones. On the one hand, some will think it's great South Park is adding a game feature that sort of simulates the difficulty of living as a person of color. But on the other, it's going to be seen as a kind of cultural appropriation by two white males who aren't allies anyway. (Technically, Stone's mom is Jewish, but he doesn't identify with that and grew up secular.) Parker and Stone have said before that they aren't on anyone's side and people see whatever they want to see in their work. Stone, himself, has said "I hate conservatives, but I really hate liberals."

No particular order:

Salt and Sanctuary (indie game heavily inspired by Dark Souls, but with platform jumps)

Darkest Dungeon (absolutely loved everything about this game, though some people might be turned off by the "bad luck" random number generator moments)

Tekken 7 (it controls well, is mostly balanced for a fighter and has new characters)

Divinity: Original Sin, Enhanced Edition (this RPG has so much depth; there are a bunch of different ways to play it)

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Game of the Year Edition (Not finished yet, but I'm really liking all the missions and hunting the war chiefs)

Yes, most of these games are at least a year old, but the upside is I bought most of them for under $10.

Ned would continue to give out 'BAD DEALS', cause he knows as much about politics as a pigeon knows about jerking off. Stannis would be a more menacing version of Trump, enforcing a theocratic ruling body as well. Also he doesn't want to rule, he wants it because 'it's his right'. Which is never the path to democracy.

Of the three, Tywin is the only right answer.

Yeah, I vote Tywin. He was a badass who understood all the politics of Westeros, but was still willing to lead his troops on the battlefield. He exemplifies the no excuses, just get it done type of leader who could improve his kingdom and protect his allies.

People voting Ned... Lol. He would have been a good general in the modern military, but no way would he have done well as the overall leader. He never wanted to rule, anyway. He was also too stupid, proud and naive to keep things from falling apart. Don't get me wrong, Ned was the kind of guy I'd want fighting by my side.

It's Disney. Their biggest claims to fame are theme parks aimed at children and animated movies and toys to promote those movies, and vice versa. I wouldn't say Disney ruined Star Wars (they can throw absurd amounts of money and marketing at both franchises), but everyone should know what we're getting with this union. Star Wars is just Disney's new platform for featuring more princesses, but in space. That is a good thing in its own way.

To be fair, the D in DACA literally stands for deferred. I don't see how anyone should be surprised or upset about it ending when the policy was a temporary reprieve. Immigration has specific, regulated steps that you're supposed to follow for proper entry and stay, or else what's the point? Wait, is that what this is really about? That there should not be any barriers at all? How many countries around the world even do that (i.e. no immigration policy at all)?

The overall point I'm making is that when you use your office to take away a lot of money, and then donate back an amount of money that seems like a lot but is 1) a tiny amount compared to what you're trying to take away, and 2) an even tinier amount of compared to your own wealth, it's hard to see this gesture as anything but a transparent PR move.

I don't know anything about you, but if you earned say, 50k a year then proportionately (from a percentage point of view) you're donating about as much as Trump is.

It's definitely a good gesture that you're donating $10, but did you expect any praise for it, or should we all pat you on the back for it? Would it even touch the sides of your overall worth as a human being?

No, I don't expect any praise. I doubt most people do. Trump probably does want everyone to know about his donation. Anyway, I hope the flood victims get as much money as they need to get back to normalcy soon.

That isn't comparable because Trump isn't personally responsible for the storm and flooding in Texas. He isn't punching anyone in the face or kicking anyone, literally or figuratively. You could make the argument that he isn't doing enough to help stop nature from doing that, though.

Regarding the donation, Trump's amount isn't proportionate to what he can give, but it does not change the fact that one million dollars is still a lot of money, moreso than what most people will part with. I'm donating, but I admit my $10 is not really going to help anyone because it's small, and it only becomes helpful when you lump it together with many other people's donations.

Dash_Harber posted...

Fair enough. I'm not saying he did nothing. I'm pointing out that he was not very good at exploring (he had no clue where he was), he crimes far outweigh his contributions, and that the task could have just as easily been accomplished by anyone else at the time. Not only that, but it's not like he personally rowed a single boat across the Atlantic, he had a crew and three ships given to him.

I think the mention of the Vikings is just to point out how people were aware of other landmasses and his 'discovery' was more a charting journey. Not only that, but you know, there were a ton of inhabitants already here. Like, no one remembers the guy that discovered the middle east for Europe, because, you know, there were already tons of people there.

It's just, what is he known for? Discovering America and leading the way to colonization. The first isn't true and even if you argue it is, he still did it by blundering his way through and with a crew of experienced people doing literally all the work. The latter is only true in the sense that he took someone else's money and funded a pleasure cruise and then wiped out most of the Taino people and other indigenous groups so there would be room for the European settlers.

Now, I get that he was the first, but at this point it's sort of like being the first to take your parent's minivan for a joyride and accidentally crash the car into a pot of gold. Why commemorate that? That's not to mention that the holiday is pretty much a big middle finger to the descendants of the people he narrowly committed genocide against.

Yeah, I don't disagree with what you said. Columbus is definitely a very controversial figure and I can totally see why some people (maybe most?) will never be comfortable celebrating him. I don't know... I try to remember that a lot of people, both in the past and presently, have horrible character flaws, but I still give credit where it's due, even if doing so is inconvenient and unpleasant. Anyway, thanks for keeping it civil.
