That's because he was caught commenting that he wouldn't take patients there.

Was he actually penalized with suspended without pay? Or just placed on administrative leave pending an investigation?

Thanks to police unions, I'm betting on the latter.

Cop illegally arrested and forcefully detained a nurse who refused to perform an illegal blood test on an unconscious patient who could not consent to the test. He had no warrant. The nurse would have lost her license. Any result from the test would have been protected by Hippaa so the cop couldn't have gotten it anyway.
The hospital could have been sued for performing the test. There is video of this and it's pretty brutal.

No. If she had complied she could have lost her career. Even if she had won a battle in court she would likely have been black balled and been unable to work in the healthcare field ever again. I know I am responding to a troll statement, but I feel it's important to actually make sure anyone on the fence knows that she did the right thing.

Wubbels said she tried explaining to Payne that she wouldn't allow Gray's blood to be drawn unless he was under arrest or there was a police warrant.

When she defended the hospital's policy, buttressed by a 2016 Supreme Court ruling that warrantless blood draws violate the Fourth Amendment, she was rebuffed.

cops cannot order you to break the law, which is what the nurse was being asked to do.

you are only required to comply with lawful orders. if a cop gives you an unlawful order and you obey it, you are still guilty, although the cop will also face charges as well.

I really, really doubt the nurse would lose her license to practice after being criminally coerced by a detective into violating policy. That's like her losing her job because she drew blood at gunpoint. The hospital and patient, and even the nurse, would have standing to sue the officer and department in civil court for deprivation of civil rights, but if the hospital or medical association went after the nurse it would be a slam dunk lawsuit to get reinstated.

Still, what she did was heroic.

Lawsuits are messy and take time. A lot of the nurses I know are single moms living on a tight budget. No license equals no income.

No it wouldn't. The board would absolutely expect her to not comply in that situation as she knows not to. Even if she did some how keep her license she would be seen as a liability to other hospitals.
