I know, right. People are acting like the dude is some spec ops, ranger badass, not some dude that teaches teenagers to aim down the sights and squeeze the trigger at paper targets. Mass murderers are some of the dumbest criminals around: completely driven by impulse, with barely any planning and often leaving behind a manifesto the reads as if it was written by a 4chan AI, I wouldn't trust too many of them to tie thier shoes, certainly not become effective fugitives in a state wide man hunt. If the dude was this much of a badass, he wouldn't be shooting up bowling alleys. The dude is dead for sure

There are countries and high gun ownership with low levels of gun crime, such as Finland & Norway, but they have much greater social cohesion. America has very little. It is easy to kill in a land full of strangers, rather than a land full of friends. Low social cohesion in America is the root of many problems

Surprised the guidelines allow people to keep their guns after saying they want to commit a mass shooting. Would have thought that would put someone on a watchlist.
I suppose the issue with that is that it would deincentivize people from seeking mental health. If patients thought they were going to get thier rights away or treated as a terror suspect for talking to mental health professionals they won't. The issue is that it is hard to know the efficacy of mental health treatment. It isn't like you can run a proper controlled experiment for any of this stuff. There may have been a ton of killers that were stopped because they got psychological counseling, who knows, you only get to see the failures.

Israel is known to be committing human rights violations and state-sponsored segregation. Responding with terrorist attacks is obviously the wrong response but Israeli leadership is more interested in giving themselves the justification to raze the Palestinians to dust than break the cycle. Their treatment of that segment of the population is spurring radical behavior from the opposition and they have the power to put an end to it by treating Palestine with dignity.
Eh, it is just easier to raze Palestine and take over the management. People will forget about it in a couple years. Works for everyone else. It isn't like anyone is talking about free Hong Kong or Tibet anymore

Florida has stricter gun laws than Texas. You must be endangered there to use deadly force, so firing on a fleeing criminal would not be appropriate. Texas is the only state that does not require you to be endangered to use deadly force. With that said you still must use a reasonable amount of force, which is definitely not the case here, among other issues.

This isn't directed at NDT, since I know very little about him, but It is mostly a problem with lecturer types. It is kinda an occupational hazard with the profession. They get so used to being the smartest person in the room teaching a bunch of students less smart than they are that when they go around outside the classroom they tend to treat others as if they are thier students and talk down to them. Also, being incredibly smart at one thing, they often erroneously believe they are smart at pretty much everything, which is were they really get themselves in trouble. Because all because you are a master at astrophysics doesn't believe that you are going to have good takes when it comes to social sciencel, poltics, what have you.

I mean hes right from a geopolitical standpoint. Literally the only reason we care about Israel is the strategic foothold it gives us in the Middle East.
There are a few reasons we like the relationship with Israel. First they guard the Suez Canal: the most important canal in the world, second is that they resonate culturally with the Jews & Christians in the US, so are good for politics and third they are seen as a strong and stable power in the Middle East that can help the US achieve its broad strategic goals in the region (plus they have nukes, so we especially want them to be stable).

The relationship with Israel used to be more contentious with the rest of the Middle East before, but as relations between the various Muslim countries and Israel have been getting closer over the years, this is less of the issue. We get absolutely nothing by support Palestine, they are a weak country that is not even particularly well regarded by the rest of the Muslim countries. They are nothing but useful idiots for the Iranians and will be a hotbed for civil strife for the foreseeable future

True. Hamas likes putting a lot of thier military installations in civilian centers such as apartments, hospitals and schools to maximize civilian casualties in any counterattack. Mostly self perpetuation. Hamas' attacks don't seem to be designed to achieve any military or territorial goal, so much as annoy Israel to counterattack and create a rally behind the flag effect. It is after all is hard to criticize your government's actions when it is at war. Thier attacks also seem calculated to be annoying enough that the Israelites will counterattack, but not so threatening that Israel feels the need to outright overthrow them, so they can be in a constant state of warfare

If it didn't have the Monster Hunter games on it, it would be nothing to me and even then they succeeded in spite of the system, since the 3ds was very underpowered, damn near feeling weaker than a PSP. I found the Wii U to be more compelling, since the first party line up was much stronger, even if most of the better ones have been ported to the Switch at this time

That's why I'm curious if there's been a monetary valuation of his potential losses due to this decision.
I am sure at this time most of the money is outside of the business. Plus his business partners tend to take most of the risk of managing and operating the facilities, he is mostly just a brand guy now a days, so it won't probably effect him as much as most people would hope

Agreed. Tax efficiency is irrelevant with the sums that they are paying out, since it all is mostly going to be in the upper brackets rather than the lower no matter what payment scheme you choose and if anything you may save money on taxes on lump sum given that taxes have a way of raising over time. Plus they don't pay you interest, so your money gets eaten alive via inflation if you choose payments, whereas you could have it in a relative safe investment and at least keep the value of your fortune under lump sum. Also the opportunity costs are massive for not choosing lump sum. The lotto does a terrible job of incentivizing payments, lump sum everytime
