Well, not like they fully stopped. We still have happy meal tous from the latest kids movies, but during the 90s they went pretty hardcore with it. Myself I had a few of these Batman glasses from MCDs and they were only 99 cents. Had a weight to them I remember.

Anyway, you rarely see this level of marketing commitment anymore. Is it cause maybe going to the movies isnt the big deal it used to be? Sure some movies keep breaking records, but overall attendance is down and adjusting for inflation theyre not doing as much money. I guess movies are not the center of entertainment they used to be back then when they didnt have to compete with videogames, cellphones, streaming apps.

Blame the people who blamed fast food places for the childhood obesity epidemic instead of the parents who bought their kids fast food 10 times a week.

It's just cheaper and more effective doing internet based marketing, so companies have gravitated towards that. It does suck trading the cool batman cups for hundreds of soyjak faces, but what can you do.

Probably too expensive. And mcd's and corporate America in general are soulless variations of beige now and colorful fun toys don't fit that.

I think I used to have at least one of those batman returns glasses. Or it might have been from Forever. I remember Batman Forever also had a big promotion at McDonald's

They even had a special burger they called Super Hero Burger I think, but I do not remember what the burger had in it

amount of influence, audience, accessibility, competition

they still do with happy meals. there's no reason to sell things through mcd because they can do it through social media now. but for the kids, that audience, it's still there.

Movie tie-ins moved over to car insurance, for some unknown reason.
