Weird whataboutism there, but no, that statement isn't used to justify shoplifting. It's the justification for employees not putting their lives at risk to try and stop shoplifters. Shoplifting is still bad, but it's not worth dying over.

Much like your homeowner or auto insurance, commercial insurance has deductibles. $500 is common for a small business but $1000 or more is also pretty common. That's per incident, of course, not yearly or anything stupid like that.

Short version is no, insurance is not going to pay for any of this, nor does it pay for shoplifting or any of the other things ignorant trolls think it does. The restaurant is going to have to eat the cost unless some or all of the party members can be identified, charged, and convicted.

I'd say it is the same. That stuff on the shelves didnt magically appear there. It didn't magically get to the store, it didn't magically get created, it didn't magically get presented on the shelf.

Stealing from both are bad. I'm not sure why some love to put food industry work on a mile high pedestal while other low wage customer service work is treated as if they are trash. Stealing with some large bill/tab from Olive Garden or Buffalo Wild Wings is no different from stealing from Target or Walmart.
