Bruh, literally every course on that plate was a vegetable.

If I sliced up a Zucchini and fried it into fritters, it is still a vegetable.

If I sliced up an apple and caramelize them, they are still fruit.
Bad example because zucchinis are fruits.

No. I'm literally, quite literally, using USDA classification.

Corn falls under all three.

This shouldn't be news to somebody who claims to know about food group classification.

Ok dude looking forward to seeing your pumpkin, eggplant, and cucumber mixed berry smoothie.

You gonna write into the USDA and tell them they're wrong, because you don't understand how classifications work? Let me know what they say.

Dude over here trying to argue "Berries" are a food group on the same level as "Vegetables," in retaliation to being wrong.

So... In other words, fresh corn (or canned/frozen, if harvested fresh) is a vegetable, and it's only a grain if you don't use it fresh.

Which you denied.

Huh.

@Tyranthraxus said corn can ONLY be a grain.

Which one was right?

Incorrect. You keep using botanical classifications like those are food groups when they are not. Culinary classifications are not the same. You must respect culinary classifications for meal preparation, nutritional balance, and taste. It doesn't matter what an individual produce is biologically. When it comes to food the only thing that matters is how you cook with it.

Rice is actually kinda expensive, relatively. That's why Rice-a-Roni even exists - the "roni" is filler.

Right Rice is way more expensive than white rice. It's marketed as have more fiber and nutrients than white rice (which it arguably does) and fewer "net carbs" It's not a cheap alternative to rice

Rice-a-roni is just quick cook rice and pasta with seasoning, the "filler" is, again, more expensive than rice.

Wait, I understand the debate over tomatoes, but what are potatoes, if not vegetables?

And I'd like an actual, real answer. Not just "Well the WHO doesn't classify them as a vegetable so..." because that isn't an actual answer.

EDIT: Oh, Google tells me the movement against potatoes being a vegetable is purely based on "They're not as nutritional as other vegetables." Fuck that noise.

I've known people to argue cause it's the root we eat. Fuck that too.

Hell I'm of a mind if it grows out of the ground it's vegetation thus a vegetable and that includes fruit. But I know I'm a oddball on that.

Indeed. My favorite meal that I had as a child was whenever my dad would cook what the recipe called a Shipwreck Casserole, as it had meat, potatoes, cheese, and a whole lot of other things thrown in for good measure and it tasted awesome. Just thinking about it again makes my mouth water and Im considering cooking one of my own if I can easily source the ingredients for it from my local grocers without paying an arm and a leg in the process.
