I hate endings where everything just magically works out and contrived bullshit happens to give every character a happy ending. It just sort of takes me out of the entire experience when everything neatly falls into place in a way that doesn't feel earned. A lot of happy endings are just too generic, too, and are just really forgettable. However, there are bad endings that are, well, bad as well. I've definitely seen stories that just kind of go for shock value bad endings that aren't interesting or engaging at all. Arbitrarily killing off most or all of the characters just to try to be shocking or edgy isn't an interesting story route. With that said, I feel like a lot of bad endings feel more earned than that and reflect that a lot of the problems in the story can't just be neatly wrapped up by defeating any one given bad guy or something. Life isn't that easy and a lot of problems don't just go away when you cut off the source. There are also just more interesting routes that you can take with bad or bittersweet endings depending on the nature of the story, reflecting ongoing problems that give the reader/viewer/player more to think about after the story ends instead of just "Okay, story over, everyone is happy, and that's it unless there's a sequel. Yay." It seems like summoning for Zhongli & taking Xingqiu as the freebie is the way to go. I'll also level everyone to 20, didn't realize that there was a benefit to it. (For what it's worth, Amber is just my main pyro because she was one of my only characters for a while. It was so focused on jamming in borderline nonsensical fanservice that it neglected to make good maps, its game mechanics were flat-out busted (especially pairup & Nos tanking), a lot of its characters were just super flat anime tropes (literally how does a game get away with making two individual characters whose entire personality is "I'm boring and people often forget me"? Jeez.), and the game actively sabotages its own best plot elements for the sake of adding pointless bonuses. I dunno. I appreciate that it actually got marketing for once and thus sold, but the quality of the game was, uh, not amazing. I'm a big FE fan, but I feel like Awakening has the least to offer of...well, anything in the series. | dotsdfe 01/18/22 8:23:19 PM #16 | I think the biggest question, no matter what they do, is how they'll handle certain characters, namely: Cotton Didi/Good Hank Luanne Lucky Luanne's daughter Cotton died near the end of the original show's run, but I'm wondering if they'd retcon that in a reboot since he's a downright iconic character and it's hard to imagine the show coming back without him. If he does remain dead, Didi/GH sort of vanished at the end of the original run without much closure, so I wonder if the should would bother to address those two at all. For Luanne's family, the morbid fact of it all is that both Luanne's and Lucky's voice actors have died since the original run ended. Luanne in particular is a major character, so the question becomes "Do they recast them? Do they have the entire family move off? Or do they kill off Luanne & Lucky and have the Hills take the baby in?" Just kind of a tough one to figure out since there's no telling how the reboot would follow from the original continuity at all.
