The House in Fata Morgana crushed me pretty hard several times.

Hated it. The story was awful and the cast was insufferable.

The gameplay was alright, but the battle system's potential was really hurt by every single character other than Asbel having half of their moves being magic. All of the cooler elements of the combat felt locked to Asbel.

The Chihiro thing is something that will be debated for the rest of time, unless DR1 randomly gets remade. There's an absurd amount of discourse around that character and their gender. I've seen them called a cis male, non binary, and trans by different people. Sadly, the way the character was handled just wasn't the best, even though they're one of my favorites for the first game.

Regardless, stan Sakura, she's iconic.

It's...good in that regard, but still monumentally overrated. I don't think it's anywhere near the best VG story ever, and I don't think I'd even have it in my personal top 20.

TLoU's story is remarkably average. The writing/dialogue is good, but the story itself? Nothing close to special.

Anyway, it's basically what you'd expect, AKA a list aimed at really casual gamers. There are tons of obscure games out there with way better stories than anything on this list, like The House in Fata Morgana.

Lien sucked at first, but he turned around pretty hard by the end. I liked him as a de-facto 'sidekick' for a lot of investigations, and he turned out to be pretty sweet even though his whole "I LOVE YOU KIZZYYYYYY" thing was awful for a while.

Gen was fantastic.

Amame was fantastic and was close to being a new character since she was pretty much nothing in AI1.

Komeji's entire plotline was great. He was a super tragic character.

Shoma grew on me a lot.

I'll admit that Kizuna was a little bit vanilla overall though.

They moved.

I personally thought that the murder mystery was stronger in 2 (the first game's entire mystery becomes outrageously obvious once you figure out the body switching thing and there's just nothing else to really speculate about or further mysteries to solve after that point)

I also probably liked the second game's cast slightly better overall, though it's tough because I enjoyed both a lot.

While we're talking Somnium in two threads, since this one has a full spoiler warning, I'll drop my tier list.

Note: It's second-game-only and not factoring the first game in at all. Date would be an easy S if I were including the first game, and most of the cameo characters would be a lot higher, they just didn't do much in the plot in 2. (Which is honestly fine, I was okay with the focus being on the new cast)

I also just finished the game yesterday. I absolutely loved that the game actually went through with the whole *MAJOR SPOILERS* nil number/world is a simulation thing.

Honestly, I'm really curious about if that's intended to be fully canon or a what-if/ambiguous/alternate universe ending. I think that Uchi has said that all of the timelines in both games are canon and exist in their own universes, so I'm really curious if the entire universe is a simulation, or if it's just something that happens in one timeline but not others.

It's really, really funny to think that, if it's fully canon to everything, then Tokiko & Tearer were basically right about everything and we actually sort of screwed up by stopping both of them. It's already pretty funny that letting Tokiko transcend the universe ends in an ending that's unironically happier for everyone involved.

I played the first game and was aggressively confused

Is there anything in particular that confused you? It's a little bit out there as a game, but I felt like most of the plot points were explained pretty well in the end.

The first game was kinda bad so avoided the sequel. Everyone praising the sequel also severely overrate the first game so there's no trustworthy opinions out there about it.

I mean, reasonable, if you don't like the first game then you're definitely not going to like the second. I liked both games a lot, personally, though I'm a huge fan of mystery VNs in general.

Guessing that not many people played it in general. Ah well.

Aether Raids, one of the main PVP modes (though not real-time). Players make their own defense maps and you battle them.

It gets pretty toxic. I've seen people quit the game over how frustrating AR gets.

I feel like it kinda went under the radar a bit, which...isn't shocking since the first game was pretty niche too, but I loved it. I mean, it had some flaws, but all things considered, it was a really fun mystery, and the cast was top notch. I probably loved the characters more in this one than the first, which is kind of impressive since I liked that game's cast a lot.

To get into a bit more detail, with spoilers. Heavy spoilers ahead, don't read it if you plan to play the game and don't want spoilers:
All things considered, the twists landed for me a bit better this time, and even though the game does actively lie to you, the timeline twist was overall a really fun one. I'm usually not fond of twists that only impact the player, but I can excuse this one since it made the mystery was more interesting than it would have been otherwise.

Bringing back a minor, no-name gag character from the first game, giving her a full backstory, and then making her the second killer was a brilliant move. She went from "That random mermaid chick with a she-has-good-bones gag" to one of the standout characters of the second game. Her somnium and the reveal of how much life just screwed her family over and how much she regretted so many choices in her life that led her to murder was one of the highlight moments of either game.

On the negative side, the game really needs to drop the action sequences. The QTEs sucked and the entire last stadium sequence just made me groan. Even for the game's overly-anime style, it's just...too much. They're never fun or interesting and feel fillery. I also felt like some characters like Ryuki & Tama really suffered from the game's structure, since they're largely missing from the last half of the game and felt kind of unresolved.

Anyway, highly recommend if you're a fan of mystery VNs and/or the first game.

Just don't take competitive modes too seriously and you place be fine. The game gets kinda rage-inducing when you get into AR and real-time PVP.

The guy in that commercial is ridiculously hot. His eyes are really pretty.

Anyway, the Taco Bell commercials have been "Someone hears a bell and is compelled to go to Taco Bell despite any other circumstances, presumably due to some sort of dystopian brainwashing" for a while. This is part of that line.

I...think this single spoiler just killed my interest in the series. I liked XB1, but I heard really mixed things on 2 and was always hesitant to jump into it.

I'm not a big fan of the whole waifu-y anime thing, and this definitely makes me think that the series became all about that. I'm not really sure if the series past XB1 is for me.

Everything else...yeesh. The writing is some of the worst I've ever seen in a game, and most of the cast is either boring or unlikable.

That's understandable. If people are happy with their labels, good for them, but I get not wanting to personally put yourself in a box if it doesn't feel right.

My brain wants to put everything in a bunch of neat, little categories. I'm the kind of guy that makes spreadsheets for fun. So I've struggled with both personal and social revelations challenging my rigid thought processes.

The thought process that I went through with all of it was essentially:

-I realized that I've never had any real feelings about my gender. I've never felt compelled to act manly or like 'boy things'. I actually watched some kind of girly cartoons as a kid until my parents told me to stop.

-I did a lot of deep soul searching and came to the conclusion that I don't really care about gender concepts at all. There's just no feeling there at all and I don't think I can comprehend the idea of choosing interests or acting a certain way because of gender.

-However, I don't feel dysphoria or anything and it feels kind of bizarre to label myself solely based off of the lack of feeling as opposed to using a stronger feeling to identify it. Like, if I actively felt not-male, I'd have a strong feeling to know for sure, but I just don't really feel like anything or have any real feelings identifying with any specific gender or anything. There just aren't feelings there.

-I'd probably be fine with either "he" or "they" but I don't really ultimately care that much. It just seems easier to stick with "he/him" just because I'm not really all that interested in the pronouns or presentation or anything at all, and it's just easier to not change anything. If I updated my Twitter bio or whatever, I'd probably add "he/they" since either one is fine, but it also feels like too much effort.

-Regardless, I went back and forth on whether my total lack of feeling means that I'm just cis and really comfortable, or NB. From what I read about, it's most likely agender by its definition, which would fall under the non-binary umbrella overall.

-But after like a week or two of going back and forth of trying to label myself and know for sure, I just kind of stopped and said "You know, this really doesn't matter. I'm fine with being called "he" and ultimately wouldn't change anything about myself either way. I think, just by textbook definitions, I'd probably fall under NB, but I was just driving myself crazy trying to find an answer and not coming up with strong feelings either way.

Not sure if that helps, but that's essentially how my thought process went step-by-step when I was trying really hard to figure it all out.

I'm in the same boat. I spent a lot of time last year trying to determine if that makes me NB or not.

Ultimately I landed on labels being really pointless. I was making myself pretty unhappy by trying to arbitrarily define something that I have no strong feelings about.

That has an updated chart of representation. Characters in darker blue with older portraits don't have any representation yet, characters with an asterisk have seasonal representation but don't have a base version in yet, and characters in light blue with the newer art are FEH versions.

If it helps you piece it together, here's a new unit that was revealed just last night.

FEH has been around for a while now and, all things considered, it's a solid game.

It has a lot of problems (many of which are pretty standard for the genre), but I still enjoy it as a whole.

I'm no stranger to this scenario, best you can do is be there for the people who were closest to him, and as hard as it seems, dont focus on the "why" because it makes things worse. Condolences to you and your family.

That seems like really good advice, because that came up a lot today and just kind of led to a lot of questions that nobody could answer.
