My DL Valentine's gift was a 7% rate, which I'm put of resources to break.

That might be the final straw for me, honestly. The game has felt kinda lame lately with so many reruns & events like MonHun being up for weeks without a ton to do. Getting moderately screwed and running out of basically everything (5 Wyrmite & 0 tickets atm) might get me to just call it quits.

I'll be fair and say I only played two actual 2020 releases. A lot of others were either ports, IE Cuphead Switch, or games I was catching up on from 2019.

From the ones I played, though, Three Houses wins for sure.

My grandpa has been through absolute hell over the past year and a half or so, enduring: lung cancer, chemo, radiation, multiple falls as he's gotten weaker, significant weight loss and weakness as a result of all of that, and a severe ear infection that required surgery.

After all of that (and notably the last one, I think), a bit after Thanksgiving, he fell and then slept all day, and refused to eat. With all of that going on, we rushed him to the ER, where it was discovered that he had an abscess on his brain, as well as (apparently, according to what the doctors said) two different infections that had reached his brain. He had to undergo brain surgery at 82 for that, and is still on antibiotics.

Thing is, he's just not...coming back. Sometimes he's himself, but it's rare. For the most part, he's confused, weak, and prone to anger when he was never angry at all. On a good day, he'll almost seem like his old self, but will often be confused by things, but on a bad day he can't get out of bed at all and can't recognize his own daughters. We're trying to do everything we can for him, but it's been a few weeks without any noticeable improvement, and some really bad days where he's tried to hit my grandma despite literally never doing that to her in 60~ years of marriage.

I never really got just how hard it is to go through something like this, but it's really hitting me hard. I've always looked up to my grandpa, but he barely knows who I am now and his overall outlook is looking grim, with doctors kind of varying on how long they give him, but ranging from 3 months to 1 year in general. It's been a huge roller coaster since the initial lung cancer diagnosis, but he's fought like hell through it all. Now, though...it kinda feels like the end is here, and in a really awful way.

Iunno. Shit sucks.

Have Bayonetta/2 been ported to Switch? Also, just remembered the Grandia collection I lamented being unable to get on PS4 is on Switch. And I guess I'll pick up the Secret of Mana/Other thing of Mana remasters.

Bayo 2 is on Switch, and IIRC you get a digital version of 1 with it, though I'm not sure if that was a limited thing or not.

TV versions of movies cut shit down all the time, especially if they aren't absolutely central to the story, as that quote mentions.

It's kind of annoying at times, since they can absolutely gut certain jokes or remove some great ones outright, but it's a really common practice to cut down on airtime.

I feel like my cutoff is around 2005-2007. It's solid until the early 2000s, but loses a lot of steam, but around episodes in that range (not sure what season that is), it starts to get really bland and pretty hard to sit through.

Conflict posted...

He backed down because he wasn't your traditional killer. Out of hatred for criminals and determination to get a criminal convicted, he became desperate and took matters in his own hands. You ultimately discover that Gant is really good at planning things out in advance, but not quite as good when he's cornered and impulsive. He was able to cover up Neil's murder very well, but not Goodman's, which was done impulsively. When Lana started testifying about the SL-9 incident, Gant got scared and wound up revealing critical details in a dire attempt to get Ema convicted, that wound up proving he was the real killer as both Phoenix and Edgeworth backed him into a corner. At that point, Gant basically admitted that the law was going to be in good hands with the efforts of both Phoenix and Edgeworth. If they could find him out with all the effort he went through to cover his crimes up, they could uncover any criminal.

I don't disagree with that, but it's more about how he was built up as this cold badass, but the second you take him down, he kind of just apologizes and laughs about it. I felt like he was built up as calculating and tough with a happy-go-lucky exterior, but the second he finishes breaking down, he starts apologizing and being goofy. It just totally took a lot of the edge away from him as a villain for me, and made him feel more silly than cool. I just couldn't take him as seriously after that portion.

I get his motives and where he made mistakes, and I like those elements, but it's more about him switching gears so quickly and just kind of becoming a wimp at the end. As ACIII said, Redd White would be a solid comparison in terms of just seeming imposing but then turning into a joke, though it wasn't as big of a deal in Redd's case since he always seemed to be pretty goofy. The way the case ended for Gant just made it super hard to take him seriously on subsequent playthroughs.

I've always thought that 2-3 is really underrated too. It's at 25/44 in my case ranking for the whole series (minus DGS since I didn't play that).

It's kind of lowkey one of the darkest cases, and I really like how it touches on people accept and deal with death and tragedy. For a series so focused on death, not many other cases have hit at just how those deaths impact the people around them, and seeing how the circus members all dealt with it was great, particularly as Regina sees the events unfold and realizes that her dad really is gone and finally understands death in her own way. For a goofy case like that, it got pretty deep, and I really enjoyed that.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Honestly, I'll be one of the first to preach 1-5's flaws, personally. The case tried to do way too much with the double victim thing, and ends up having a massive plot hole in that Meekins was attacked (on camera), unconscious for a significant period of time, and was taken into custody right after, and yet he shows up in Edgeworth's office during this time period where he should be unconscious (or taken in, but timeline-wise it was pretty shortly after the initial murder and I think he should still be KO'd, but either way there's no way he was able to be in that office.

I also don't really think that the villain was particularly great. Namely in terms of how Gant was built up as this big imposing boss, but then as soon as you take him down (with evidence law being relevant for the literal only time in the series, which feels super super clunky and drags out the finale way past when it should have ended - especially taking away from the climax quite a bit), he kind of just says "Whoops! Yeah, guess I'm not great at committing crimes, huh?" and loses the entire effect. I was super on board with Gant as the big bad until the end of the case, where he totally lost his impact and just kinda backed down.

Don't get me wrong, though. I don't think that 1-5 is a bad case by any means, I just think they tried to do too much with it and made it too long, leading to plot holes (like the one I mentioned among some smaller ones) and a somewhat lame climax.

I'll stand up for the DLC and the season pass treatment and say that people always want more stuff in FGs. I'd take seasons with big rebalance patches & DLC that you can choose to get or not, or get individually, over new versions every year or two. It's a nice compromise and is generally cheaper unless you buy everything, over buying the same game a few times to keep up.

Or you could be like SFV and do both, I guess.

I need some advice on what to get here, as I'm kind of torn.

I'm getting three of the SC6 DLC characters (3 bucks each, so 9 total) and Steins;Gate on PS3 for 4, so I'm spending 13 already.

With a budget of 30~ including what I'm definitely getting (recently bought a ton of stuff gaming-wise and not looking to go super ham), I'm considering:
Injustice 2 ($15)
Metal Gear Solid 5 ($8)
Suikoden 1 ($3) or 2 ($5), or both.
Dishonored Definitive Edition ($7)
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor ($6)
Dark Cloud 1 or 2 or both ($6 each)

I've kind of been mixing and matching, but I'm still not positive how I want to do it. Any recommendations or insight from that list?

I ended up getting all of the SC6 season 1 DLC characters, Steins;Gate PS3, Suikoden 2, and Injustice 2 for $35 total. I was strongly considering MGS5, but as someone else pointed out, the definitive edition is pretty cheap on disc, so I'll just get that a little bit down the road instead.

Yea, I know that's more of an E3 or Evo announcement, but with the Tekken World finals just around the corner in early December I could see them name-dropping one of them just to deflate Tekken's hype. Or they could announce a "lesser" Capcom fighter like Darkstalkers.

I'd normally think that it'd be around time to announce SF6, but I just don't see themselves undercutting their own hype for SF5C. I think SF5C is SF5's last hurrah, and then they'll kinda move away from it/finally announce SF6 some time after.

But yeah, they'd really risk losing a lot of sales of SF5C if they announced SF6 here.

Also, yeah, I'd love a new Darkstalkers, or even just a new MvC.

I firmly believe that the best twist in all of gaming is in Ace Attorney Investigations 2, in which someone that you defended in what seemed like a filler case at the time, Simon Keyes in case 2, was not only the killer for case 5, but actually masterminded just about every event in the entire game, and that all of the seemingly-disconnected cases were actually connected either by telling his backstory, or just playing out the events that he set into motion.

AA6's Dhurke was dead the whole time twist is another notably amazing one, too.
