Just gotta keep at it. Maybe periodically publish it, even if its just for yourself so that you can feel some progression.

Ehh, nothing I write is anywhere near good enough to be published. It's just something that I have to accept at this point.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pminamu05xqzjm7/I%20Saw%20Him.docx?dl=0

Honestly though, I'm just kind of over it. If anyone wants to read a short but evidently pretty bad story, there you go. I'm going to try to not let it get me down any more. I'm still feeling really down about myself and my writing at the moment, though.

This is reminding me of how I felt when I used to write things for school. I guess this is how fanfiction writers who give up on their stories feel. Its not a good feeling for sure. I would encourage you not to give up if you can and keep pushing back that wall.

It's just super frustrating and disheartening. I've been at this for a long time, and I evidently still haven't made any significant progress. I felt like I was starting to get a style down that wasn't awful, but I guess I was wrong.

well that's a shame. do what you want, but if i was in your shoes, i definitely wouldn't delete it, even if i didn't want to share it. if you only had a few days in between finishing it and doing an editing pass, it's still basically a rough draft, and like i said before, almost all rough drafts of any written work are terrible. so your friends who said they liked it were probably just being nice lol. but personally i've found feedback from friends to mostly be completely lacking in value. the most i've ever gotten out of any work i've shared with any of my friends is "yeah, it's pretty cool." if they are just telling you they liked it or they didn't like it, that's not really very useful feedback anyway, so i wouldn't let it affect your confidence so much.

I'm just bad at revisiting older stuff. I start to forget some details and I'm less passionate about the concepts at that point, so I'm inevitably less invested in it. I try to edit ASAP so I can work on it while everything is fresh and I have it all lined up in my head.

Maybe it's not the best process, but it's what works for me overall.

I felt like I was done, but I got pretty critical feedback, including some frustrating opinions that kind of contradicted one another. One said that I use too many adjectives, while the other wanted me to use more. I guess my style is just generally bad, because I tend to use a fairly consistent amount that apparently isn't right in some form.

Overall, I'm just kind of frustrated with myself and feeling very discouraged. I've been trying to write stuff for years and years, but I never seem to get it right. I shouldn't have tried writing anything while I'm so down and feeling awful about myself otherwise, I guess, but my initial reaction is to quit trying for good.

how long did you let it stew after you finished drafting it and before you did some editing passes of it? if it's any less than a month or two i would definitely try just shelving it for now and coming back with fresh eyes. it can be really surprising what more you notice about things you write when you come to it after distancing yourself from it for a good chunk of time.

that being said, if you think it's at that level now i'd welcome it if you wanted to share it. or if you decide to let it stew and go through it again later, i'd welcome you sharing it then too.

I only waited a few days between writing and editing, honestly. I'm bad about revisiting stuff later on.

With that said...ehh, forget it in general. I got some of my friends to read it, and while two liked it, two of them seemed to absolutely hate it. I've lost any small amount of confidence that I had again, and I kind of want to just delete it and forget it at this point.

congrats! sometimes it doesn't really matter how it turns out, and what's important is just the act of writing itself and finishing something and getting that practice and accomplishment in. but in any case, the first draft of basically any written work is usually pretty bad. i bet if you take a month and come back to it with fresh eyes you will be able to go through and improve it significantly. what's it about?

I'll probably just call it good honestly, I edited it as best I could and went through it a few times. I feel like it's about as good as it can be...which is still bad, but still.

I could link it here or send it to people if anyone wanted to read it, because it's very short, but I dunno if anyone would be interested, and I'm not confident in its quality at all.

It's as bad as everything else I work on, but I...tried, at least. I hadn't felt motivated enough to work on anything due to a medley of issues, namely pretty severe depression, so I'm happy that I at least pushed myself to finish something.

Tabby cat - She was kinda into it, she stood at the glass door while I was on my deck and either watched me or kept bobbing/craning her head to watch the fireworks.

It's almost amusing in a really dark way how nearly every other country on Earth with a few exceptions has managed to get this under control. Other countries are reopening, and things are looking good.

The US? We floundered around for months without doing much of note, and then gave up and said "Yeah idk, guess we'll just live with this."

It would be really funny if not for the situation being so grim.

I dunno. If you like the villain on that basis, by all means, go for it. I don't want to make anyone dislike the game, and I respect your opinion.

Personally, though, I felt like the game almost explored ideas like mental illness and evil and stuff, but it stopped short of really saying anything meaningful about it, which left the villain feeling more like a Saturday morning cartoon villain to me.

I also just really disliked that the killer was someone who wasn't really brought up until very late in the game (I believe he was only hinted at very late in one route and formally introduced with Hitomi's somnium) by a concept that was similarly withheld from the player until really late in the game. I was theorizing on the killer all game long just using the suspects in the game, and it felt like the game was like "lol but there was a mind jumping body swapper in the mix the whole time, and btw, So's son was a psychopath! Who could the killer be?! :O" It wasn't a super satisfying reveal to me because it felt sort of cheap, because critical information is held back until super late. I just wasn't really huge on how the endgame played out with all of that. It felt like theorizing was pretty pointless since you don't find out about critical information that you need until very late, at which point the game becomes very obvious and the last few hours are a lot of plot dumping about stuff that's easy to piece together.

I voted other.

I was called gay/slurs in HS before I knew that I was gay just because I was always really quiet. I'm a massive introvert, and that's apparently a magnet to bullies.

I'm pretty closeted IRL for the most part, but my grandma in particular is very anti-gay and routinely makes demeaning comments towards gay people, as much as saying that she wants to beat Ellen DeGeneres to death. It's really bad and I try to just kind of zone out as much as I can when she gets like that, because it's painful to hear it all.

I can't say I've experienced much directed at me for my sexuality in person due to staying in the closet, but I've been around it a decent bit, at least.

Idk, I personally felt like the end of the game fizzled really hard.

Once the mind swapping thing got revealed, it was super super obvious what was going on. I think I figured out every single swap right away after that. The game just sort of withholds that information from you until really late, and everything becomes way way too obvious after that point.

Also, the main villain was really lame. His character boiled down to "Buahahaha, I'm really evil" which included a really over-the-top death.

I loved the game up until then, and I still liked it overall, but the last few hours felt really lame and predictable, and the main plot just sort of fell flat. The characters were still really good, though.

V3's ending is amazing.

It gives you something to think about since everything you learn could ultimately be a lie, and I love that it took a major risk with a big ambiguous ending that may or may not execute such a massive twist.

Even if everything you learn is correct, V3's world is just a parallel of our world, where the other Danganropa games are, well, games. It doesn't do anything to invalidate the others, and they're still canon in their own world.

The only really brief characters that I ranked highly were Shinso, who was amazing in his one episode, and Gentle & La Brava, who both got really good development and backstories in their arc. Past that it's mostly characters who have been around for a bit longer and that I've gotten more attached to.

tbh I like everyone in the MHA cast to some degree except for Mineta (who I genuinely dislike), and Sugar Rush & Animal Voice, who are both never there and I just don't care about.

I used to be a mod at FGTV/the stream house thing that he used to run.

As someone who has a bit of inside info: he's always been a tool, this is nothing terribly new. Most of the mods and regulars disliked him. He didn't really do anything behind-the-scenes despite being the "face" of the stream, he left it to literally anyone else and just tried to grift off of being a big personality to pull in views and try to sell merch (which bombed). ShadyK was always the more competent one in terms of running the house and the stream, and he was the only reason it was able to stay afloat for a few years.

But yeah, this isn't really a surprise. Champ has always been like that. He's a pretty shitty person overall.

No way. Frankenstein's Monster is like the Mickey Mouse or Superman of monsters. He may have lost some of his power, but all of the creatures on this list have. Frankenstein's Monster is pretty much the go-to monster for all generic monster designs. If your cartoon or video game needs a random creepy monster, you go with the Universal Frankenstein Monster look.

I think it comes down to what time period you're going in and if you're going for a singular iconic character vs. just iconic monsters in general.

In modern times, I think that people would point to zombies over Frankenstein's monster 9 out of 10 times. Zombies have been big in pop culture for quite a while now. Of all time, it's definitely a lot closer, and in terms of classics, yeah, FM wins out.

Either way, zombies should definitely be on the board. They still have classic appeal in different forms of older literature, and they're a huge force in modern monster media.
