Is Free Time like S-Links (Confidants)?

Free time is when you hang out with people of your choosing and have conversations and learn about that character and in the process you earn skills or skill points at predetermined, but unknown levels of friendship.

So I got the melodious voice skill from Sayaka, I think? Either that or I unlocked her being able to use it

Yeah you got it. That first free time section is forced to be with Sayaka. In the future you can pick whoever you want. Though some characters have free time periods where they are either unavailable, or they are available, but they're depressed and spending time with them can't advance their story. Also after the first free time you spend with a character, I believe you need to provide a gift they like to get enough charm points within one period of spending time with them to unlock the next event.

My second free time was with Junko. Gave her a radio I won, which she seemed to like. Got an extra skill point from her in return

And then back to Sayaka

Also, the class trial main menu theme slaps something fierce.

Holy shit, that was high octane

I had trouble with the comic part, and my timing on the head to head part was a bit off, but otherwise that was so much fun

And the relevations during that trial! Though the fact that the game witholds evidence from you (Sayaka's letter) suggests that I shouldn't think too hard about trying to solve the case before the trial

I'm pretty sure you can solve every case before the trial in all the DR games, or at the very least you can get most of the details correct. For example (excluding 11037 since that was blatant) you solved the crystal ball thrown to turn on the incinerator before the trial, and only one person has that kind of accuracy to throw a ball. From this point on the trials get more complex though, and they don't outright tell you the culprit with something like 11037. But like you noticed, even if you know the culprit ahead of time, part of the fun is figuring out how they did.

Yeah, I read somewhere they made the first one easy to figure out to allow the player to focus getting into the idea and flow of trials.

11037 definitely ruins the first case as something that is enjoyable to solve. Honestly though, I've played all the Phoenix Wright games before Danganronpa and a dying message is always fake in those, so I assumed it was the same case here and it was bullshitting me. But that's just another way to ruining it than making it so bloody obvious that even a child could do it, which it does. Hell, I knew the blood splatter said Leon before you could even see all the numbers.

I dont think that all of the cases are too obvious. Some of them are pretty out there. And they get more complex in the sequels

That definitely bodes well for the coming murders

Not to mention what monokuma said about accomplices also being a possibility

How much a character likes the present affects their uh, affinity with you, I guess you could say. They have to reach a certain affinity level to unlock the next "conversation". What you get for each conversation is set. EI, if you replay on a clean file, you'll get the same reward on Hifumi's 2nd conversation in both playthroughs.
