Hopefully you enjoy yourself. I lived alone for a year in college and it was a...mixed experience? I enjoyed the solitude but I think I had too much of a tendency to isolate myself and get into recurring cycles of depression. I think living with others is nice if you're an introvert (like me) since it forces you to socialize.

I don't think it's even really a question at this point, is it? They clearly attempted to influence the election, that much has been proven. If you weren't sure before today, I'd say the indictments make it pretty obvious.

The real question is whether or not anyone in the US government was complicit in it, on either side.

My friend from high school started at Wal-Mart months after graduation and is still there, and happily so, 8 years later. We've talked about jobs as recently as a month or two ago, and he's proud of his Wal-Mart job and seemingly has no plans to leave.

I'd never do it, but for some people, it's good enough.

I understand Eric's actions... but that didn't make me hate him less as a character. Mira was an interesting part of the cast but just felt pointless. I felt like they were both cheaply written characters that, understandably, were shallow because of the budget.

I'm happy it existed too though. Now I need to find some other crazy mind blowing VN to play. I've heard Ever17 is good.

Played the Danganronpa series yet? I recently beat all of those and loved them. There's also Ace Attorney, but both of those are pretty mainstream by VN standards, so it wouldn't shock me if you've played both series already.

Overall, the game was...good, but the problems can all be summed up by understanding the budget and schedule that they were on. I wish it had been better, but I'm glad that the game exists at least.

Best: I love a lot of them, but I think I'd go with the car repair episode. "Keep Summer Safe" is the best B-plot of the series hands-down, IMO.

Worst: I think I'd call it a tie between Anatomy Park and Vindicators. I felt like both were a little too straightforward and ultimately kinda bland, for my liking. I just didn't feel like enough was going on in either. Wouldn't call either bad though.

There are a few hints that she has some feelings for Shuichi in the dating mode, but that might not be canon or anything. Otherwise...yeah, probably. She's at least bi for sure.

I've recently come to realize that the series has a lot of LGBT characters overall. I think that one of the head writers or something must be LGBT, because it seems strange that there would be so many characters in a Japanese game when those typically don't have a ton.

There's at least solid evidence if not outright confirmation for Teruteru, Nagito, Ibuki, Mikan, Juzo, Tenko, Keebo, and Kokichi. (The last two are V3 characters but neither really has to do with the story/the evidence comes from the arguably non-canon stuff, but I spoiler tagged them just in case) Supposedly Nekomaru hints at falling for Hajime in DR2's dating mode too, but I never did that.

Yeah, case 3 would have been fantastic if someone else had killed Angie. They teased going in that direction, and it would have opened up some really fun storylines with Himiko vs. Kiyo...but then they backed out and went for the most obvious answer. Most of the evidence pointed to Kiyo with so much related to the seance, and like, I think everyone suspected him for both once they figured the first one out. It just got lame and I think Kiyo is one of the most obvious killers in the series. It sucks because the case went from interesting and unique to just obvious, though I still like the investigation.

Also, I love Kiyo overall. I find him weird and mysterious before the reveal, and hilarious after. His storyline is just SO over-the-top that it wraps around to being really hilarious.

It's funny, I almost began to ironically appreciate Angie until I did her dates in that non-canon dating mode. She bitches about eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything and even picking the obvious choices for her gets a "Hmm, Atua doesn't like that, Shuichi, you're so disappointing. =|"

Yeah, sorry, can't stand her. I was really happy when she died in that case.

Yeah, Angie is probably tied with Hifumi for my least favorite in the series. The Atua thing got old by about the first time I was finished talking to her in the prologue, and she never stopped.

I really doubt it. The game is out in like, a week. I doubt there's much else to reveal, if anything.

Isn't 21 the second female or something? Pretty sure you can't even make an all-female team in it. Not really overrunning with those by any means.

It was lame that a game so focused on breaking away from society's expectations and stuff didn't have an important gay character, though. Seems like a pretty natural fit. Though, Yusuke does get a ton of dialogue that's pretty suggestive.

It's pretty good, but yeah, I never really got how it was considered so amazing. It didn't really wow me at all.

I did really like the winter segment, though. If the entire game had been like that, it might have been the AAAAAAAA game it was touted as.

Yikes.

I was incredibly hyped for this game, but this totally killed off my interest in it. The base roster is dire and I don't really feel like shelling out a ton to make it better.

It's a shame, I like BB and loooved P4A, but I don't think I'm going to get this, at least until it's cheap for a complete edition.

Guess I'm the only one who didn't like the twist in the first case, thought it was obnoxious since there was no way for us to reasonably guess that we were the one who did it. It was clever of course, but it made the whole effort I put into that case feel pointless.

Disagree. Kaede was actually my top suspect for most of the investigation. I caught her putting the shotput ball in her bag as it was happening and thought of her being the one to arrange the books and camera. It was well-hidden, but not impossible to figure out in advance at all.

That's exactly what happened. 999 sorta bombed in Japan because it was perceived as too dark, so there was a conscious effort to make VLR less so. I recall hearing that way back.

I really like Ryoma. Which is funny since he was my initial last place when I looked at the cast on the cover. I figured he'd be like Teruteru and Hifumi, but he's really different.

Any early suspects for case 1, TC? I felt like that case did a good job of presenting a ton of viable suspects.

Yasuhiro does literally nothing of importance in the entire game. He's absolutely and completely fucking useless.

He's useless, but that meant that I never really got annoyed with him. I might have hated him if he had done more, but as it is he was sort of just there.

I'd recommend powering through both sides regardless really. You more or less need both to get the full picture.

For what it's worth, it does get a bit better, and some of the characters get some development. It just isn't amazing, and the villain of the future side is easily the worst in the series and one of the worst villains ever.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I personally feel like the Despair side is good, but the Future side is weak, and I feel like most people feel roughly the same from what I've seen.

For me at least, the concept of the Future side was strong, but it just quickly breaks down into a bunch of underdeveloped characters fighting/chasing one another, and a good chunk of them just never really get all that much development, while others are mishandled entirely (namely the trio plotline, where I felt like two of the three of them were horrible characters). I did like the pharmacist girl, at least, and Sakakura/Juzo (the boxer) is one of the best characters in the series.

Either way, the main draws of the anime are getting resolution to the DR2 plot, and for the fun Despair side which fleshes out some of DR2's cast, even if it sort of missed the mark on doing that a times, IE not really giving Mahiru much meaningful content when she was one of the least-developed DR2 characters.

Since you don't seem terribly interested in UDG, I'll give you the SparkNotes version, but in spoiler tags in case you're interested after all:

Ultra Despair Girls starts off with Komaru Naegi, Makoto's sister from his video in DR1, locked in an apartment without much of an idea of what's going on. However, she's broken out early in the game and encounters Byakuya, as well as rampaging Monokumas. Byakuya gives her a hacking gun that can take out the robotic Monokumas, and Komaru escapes to try to meet up with people from Future Foundation. She does so, but due to an attack on the helicopter, she's captured.

She meets up with five Warriors of Hope - Jotaro, Kotoko, Masaru, Nagisa, and Monaca. To cut to the chase, the five all have pretty tragic backstories - Jotaro was emotionally abused to the point where he preferred being hated to being liked, Kotoko was forced to be a child actress and was raped by her producers, Masaru was physically abused, and Nagisa was forced to study to the point where he was hooked to an IV and forced to study for days at a time. The wheelchair-bound Monaca...was allegedly assaulted, but this seems to be a lie, as she never really needed a wheelchair. Nagito (known as "The Servant" in UDG) serves them, as well as an all-black Monokuma. The group collectively worships Junko because she saved them from suicide, though this is an obvious ploy to gain their loyalty.

Komaru is forced into a survival game, in which the children & Monokuma robots hunt and kill all of the adults (known as "Demons"). Komaru is saved by Toko, and the two try to escape the city together. Along the way they meet Hina's brother, who is blown up when he tries to swim outside of the city, Chihiro's dad, who is mauled to death by Monokumas, and Hiro's mom, who serves as a confidant for the duo. They also meet Monaca's older brother, Haiji, and an all-white Monokuma that's a pacifist and helps the adults.

After seemingly killing off several of the leader kids, it's revealed that Toko had double crossed Komaru and had been playing her the entire time, promising to exchange her for the captured Byakuya. The two fight briefly, before reconciling and becoming friends. Eventually, war breaks out between the adults, led by Haiji, and the kids/Monokumas, with the adults having a giant Monokuma as a secret weapon that rampages through the city.

Komaru & Toko reach Monaca's hideout, where she eventually gains a button that will allegedly end everything. She debates about pushing it or not for a while, with Haiji and Monaca both pushing her and a lot of debate about what the button does. Eventually it's revealed that the button will kill all of the children, and that one of Monaca's plans is to turn Komaru into a new Ultimate Despair. However, she also wanted to effectively start a war, when the Future Foundation showed up and slaughtered the children.

After revealing she killed Komaru's parents (this is called into question later), Monaca nearly convinces the latter to push the button. However, Toko stops her, and the two take out the rampaging giant Monokuma which is out of Haiji's control.

It's revealed that the secretly evil all-white Monokuma was controlling it, and that both the white and black Monokumas were halves of the Junko AI. Hajime/Izuru collects them, leading up to the events of DR2. Monaca escapes and essentially becomes a successor to Junko.

I left out some details, but I tried to cover the big stuff in a SparkNotes version, especially what's relevant for the DR3 anime. Specifically, the green-haired Monaca will eventually play a role, just so you're not lost when she pops up.

Also, this, kinda. If nothing else, it might be worth skimming a Let's Play of it or something on YT. I got the game for $10 on a Halloween sale and didn't regret it. There are at least a few plot elements from it that come up in the anime, too, so I'd always recommend at least getting an overview of the plot beforehand.

Beyond that, if you like the first two games, there are some great cameos and callbacks to them. It also makes Toko into one of the best characters in the series, IMO, and that's coming from someone who was "Eh" on her after DR1.

If you want to start V3, go for it. I'm mostly through it and I haven't seen anything that really requires having seen the anime before playing it.

With that said, I finished UDG & the anime first. I won't say why just yet, but I suspect you'll want to watch the anime before anything else.
