I took the math that was required for my degree (4 levels of Calculus, 2 levels of Discrete), how much of that I retained is another story. I guess I would say basic-medium since I can do a lot of the everyday math in my head before I need to break out the calculator.

Did you play it when it came out? Just curious if that impacts your view, because I loved it when it came out but found it unplayable when I tried to play it a few years back.
I admittedly played it several years after it came out, but I don't think it was that it felt dated. I played Daggerfall and Arena only like 5 years back and while I thought Arena was fine, I LOVED Daggerfall. Easily the best Elder Scrolls game ever.

The problem was that the game felt...linear. Hard to really describe. Essentially it comes down to the "Todd Howard" philosophy. Arena and Daggerfall had a lot of content to them because the developers auto-generated the world and instead spent all of their effort on the side quests and gameplay. With Morrowind, Todd insisted on "hand-crafting" the world, taking away resources from the side quests and gameplay. Worse still, the world is essentially hallways separated by hubs, so it feels even less realistic then the auto-generated world. With Oblivion and Skyrim, they started the shift back which is why I like those games more.

My hope (although I know it probably wouldn't happen) is that they go back to auto-generating the world in Elder Scrolls 6 and instead pack the game with thousands of quests and tens of factions you can join. Just make it absolutely massive.

As much as I am a fan of Dragon Quest, I feel like the series went down-hill for me when the "Americanized" art was phased out. Still like the gameplay, but the art style kind of sucks. If they took the art style of Final Fantasy with the gameplay of Dragon Quest, that would be almost a damn near perfect JRPG for me.

I don't think I have ever played any game over 1000 hours. Hell, I don't think I have played any game (barring a few "idle" games) for over 200 hours. I get bored of them long before that. Looking at my Steam library, Yakuza 5 might break the 200 hour mark if I ever finish it. 150+ hours in and still haven't beaten it, although pretty darn close.

That said, I have probably beaten over 1000 video games in my lifetime.

I never liked early 3D platformers, Mario 64 included. Even most modern ones have a hard time finding a good balance between exploration and action, and most times just stick to the exploration stuff.

Crash Bandicoot probably did it the best of the 90's ones, although I would argue it doesn't take advantage of the 3D elements as much as it could.

Main numbered series: Traditional series, chronologically take place in order (0 - 6)
Kiwami: Remakes of 1 and 2 to be more like 0 and the latter games.
Like a Dragon: Continuation of the main numbered series, but with a new protagonist. Plays more like a traditional JRPG rather then a beat-em-up. Also what the main numbered series is called in Japan (and what the development studio's name translates to from Japanese)
Issen: re-imagining of the main numbered and Like a Dragon series, but in feudal Japan instead of modern times.
Judgement: Spin-off series in the same universe, but no relation to the main series.

I think that covers everything I know. Feel free to ask clarifying questions.

Because 90% of banking can be done online or at an ATM, so why go into a bank branch?

I think the last time I went into an actual bank branch was when I needed to get a certified check to buy a car with, and that was almost 10 years ago. I opened a Roth IRA with my bank 3 years ago and was able to do it all on my phone.

The annoying thing is that Disney should retain full copyright control over everything they've made. They're not wrong to have fought for that, they just fought for it the wrong way. If they'd fought for "we're still using that thing we made, so nobody else should be able to use it until we're done instead of some arbitrary time limit" instead of "we're still using that thing, so we want the arbitrary time limit extended," copyright law would be in a much better place.

Though even 20 years is longer than I think is reasonable to wait these days. With digital distribution, I'd say even 2-3 years without the product being officially for sale (or a clear plan for when it will be on sale, to account for potential hiccups in developing an emulator or something) or otherwise commercially available (e.g. streaming) should qualify it for public domain. There's absolutely nothing stopping Nintendo from keeping the eShops running for the 3DS and WiiU, especially if they just use the same storefront for all systems moving forward. Subsequent to that, there's absolutely nothing stopping Nintendo from making their entire historical library available. That they aren't selling it means only that they've chosen not to sell it, and if they're choosing not to sell it, they have no basis for objecting to people pirating it.

I would be good with that, but I think in order for it to happen the whole "Company X owns the copyright and company Y owns the trademark" stuff needs to be worked out as well. That is another thing that makes games go into sales "limbo". See Prey (2006), which Bethesda owns the Trademark and 2K owns the copyright. Oddly enough, the other example I used to point to (Wolfenstein 2009) is now a non-issue since Activision owns the copyright and Bethesda owns the trademark. Now it is all under Microsoft.

Personally, I think copyright law should be amended to formally identify abandonware by making any media that hasn't been officially for sale for more than a couple years automatically pass into public domain. In the age of all-physical media, that would have been unthinkable, but digital distribution means the only cost to keep any given work available for sale is the storage cost (which is already being spent in the vast majority of cases because copies are being kept). That means the only reason for old media to be removed from sale is if the publisher doesn't want to sell it anymore, and if the publisher doesn't want to sell it anymore, there's no harm in pirating it. But that would require copyright law to A) Realize that it's not the 19th century anymore, and B) Care about consumers and artistic preservation more than corporate profits, and neither of those are overly likely.

Blame Disney. Before they started trying to get copyright to last forever, things used to fall into the public domain after 20 years. Now that it takes 96 years for things to fall into public domain, they finally realized "Oh wait, we want to fight for TRADEMARKS, not copyright. My bad..."

7 is really bad. It always felt slow and boring (which the 8-bit games had a bit of as well, but they covered it up really well). The biggest issue is the sprite size. The sprites felt bigger than they should be, which to me has always been the hallmark of a bad game. It means that you get less chance to react to situations and instead have to rely on memorization. Something that has always been the opposite of how Mega Man is supposed to function.

The bosses being unmemorable (which is saying something when I can easily name memorable boss fights in every other game) is just the icing on the cake. About the only "memorable" fight is the final boss, and that is only because how horrible it is.

Why? I think learning a natural instinct about numbers can be helpful in understanding math and why it works. I sort of tought myself common core on my own as a way to get answers quicker. As a kid.

Because simply put, not everyones brain works that way. To me, breaking a problem down like that makes it more complex and daunting. For me, looking at a problem as a counting machine makes way more sense. Essentially, the visual method (4+4 = 5+3 = 6+2 = 7+1 = 8+0 = 8). It is also something that can easily scale up when talking about bigger problems.

Now am I going to look at that and go "Everyone should learn math that way"? No, or course not. And that is my point. It works for ME, not everyone. Common Core works for YOU, not everyone.

From my understanding, the Fandom acquisition was different from the others in that they wanted to integrate the "management" of the site into their group rather than just making a separate group under their umbrella. That is what SBAllen was talking about last year when he introduced DToast as the new site "Admin".

Pure speculation, but I assume SBAllen left because he didn't like what Fandom was expecting from him. He would much prefer to actually run it as its own entity like it was under CBS and Red Ventures rather than integrated into the rest of the Fandom monolith.

If I wasn't here, I would probably just be browsing Wikipedia.

I have had a Macbook for the last 7 years and I can say without a doubt it is the most frustrating 7 years having to deal with driver issues, incompatible programs, and just overall idiocy from the Apple R&D department. Can't wait to go back to a windows laptop the first chance I get.

Edit: And it is always funny how the people who insist beyond all reason they need a Mac for work are the ones that have to spend over half of their work hours trying to figure out how to do the stuff that everyone takes for granted on a Windows machine.

I don't think the switch to digital-only will come until consoles can figure out how to reliably carry over your purchases from one console generation to the next. Backwards compatibility would be a huge technical challenge, so I expect streaming games to be the breakthrough that leads to them pulling the trigger.

They already cracked that nut:

The Last of Us on PS3, on PS4, on PS5, on PC, etc.
Nintendo re-releasing their entire WiiU catalog on Switch
GTA V being on a million different systems over 3 console generations.
All the remasters/remakes/HD Editions/Master Collections
And so on and so on.

There are so many Chinese places here, a Panda Express opening at this point would just get lost in the shuffle. Lots of them even have the Panda Express style service.

Maybe Newgrounds will have its Renaissance

This post made me log into my Kongregate account for the first time in like 10 years. It still works! And my avatar is still a Russian pre-teen girl holding a teddy bear and a pink AK-47. LOL!
