I hope his recovery goes well.

Our 1 year old is afraid of the stairs. She has fallen down them a couple of times. She can make it down if one of us does them with her. But she will take a running leap off of our 3-4ft tall bed.

https://i.imgur.com/QP2d9Sd.jpg

Yea, those same steps my dog fell down, he used to leap up them when he was younger. He never had a problem with it but it would scare the crap out of me because I thought he was going to break his leg if he missed. Thankfully he hasn't tried doing that in many many years.

I also bought and installed a ramp on those stairs, but he hasn't gotten enough confidence to use it yet. Hopefully after tomorrow I can start getting him used to using it (too much snow out right now and supposed to have a storm tonight).

My friend sent me this meal plan and you drop weight like a motherfucker.

Breakfast:
2 eggs
1 glass of water
Snack:
1 Handful of raw almonds
1 glass of water
Lunch:
Eat small sandwich wheat, chicken, lettuce.
1 glass water
1 celery stick
Snack:
1 celery stick
1 handful of almonds
1 glass of water
Dinner:
1/2 cup Fish or chicken
1 cup Vegetables like spinach
1 glass of water.

  • Nuts, almonds, whole
  • 2 servings | Serving Size: 22 Each
  • 304 Cal
  • Eggs, whole, raw, lrg
  • 2 servings | Serving Size: 1 Each
  • 143 Cal
  • Celery, stalk, med, 7.5" - 8" long, fresh
  • 2 servings | Serving Size: 1 Each
  • 13 Cal
  • Spinach, cooked/boiled, drained
  • 2 servings | Serving Size: 0.5 Cup
  • 41 Cal
  • Chicken, broiler/fryer/grilled, breast, w/o skin
  • 1 servings | Serving Size: 1 Each
  • 142 Cal
  • Sandwich, chicken, barbecue, w/wheat, Subway (cheated on this one because I didn't want to calculate all the ingredients)
  • 1 servings | Serving Size: 6 Inches
  • 310 Cal
Your Total Calories: 953 Cal

So basically a 1000 calorie diet? IDK, I dropped weight just fine eating twice that. Granted, it is a slow drop (1-2 lbs a week) but it is way more maintainable.

A lot of companies are doing this. Mine is. They are downsizing more offices faster than planned and are thinking about reworking their telework policy because our SLOs are so high after working from home. They stopped letting people work from home because they were building these large central offices with 99 year leases but after only 3 years decided to sublet one of our buildings to a different company.
Oddly enough, I have heard the one thing that has kept most office workers at home: Open floor plans. The CDC drafted a plan to go back to the office back in June and one of the biggest regulations was that the office had to have full cube walls between desks and people had to be seated at least 6 feet apart. Look at any modern office and that is pretty much impossible, so they have been forced to keep everyone home until they either change the entire layout of their office space, or until those regulations are lifted (which isn't going to happen any time soon). And with how productive WFH has been shown to be why would they spend the money to re-organize their office?

I am fine having enough money so that I don't have to worry about money the rest of my life (like I said around 10 million), but anything more then that is just a hassle. I would rather not have it than have to deal with all the problems that go with trying to prevent people from knowing you have it. All told, would probably need about 10 million for all that, so I might just donate the rest to charity.

Of course, it will never happen because the first thing I would want is to remain anonymous and New York doesn't allow you to do that (unless you form an LLC and pull the money from that, way too much work).

That is what a lot of these reboots are missing, political shows are dated once they come out and are always going to be divisive. Morality shows are something that have a impact for generations and can attract people from all backgrounds. Why do you thing Sesame Street has been on as long as it has? It is the perfect example of a morality show, even if they do have political figures on from time to time.

I mean yes there is a significant amount of improvement and upkeep of legacy code but I would not find that very satisfying if that's all I did. We write a ton of new code at my job... It is a startup but a large one.

Previous company was old from the 90s and I still got to work on new code and entirely new tech for them.

But yes there's a lot of architecture design that goes into that, metric analysis. It's not all coding but saying no one writes new code anymore sounds depressing.

Let me clarify my point a little more: No one writes a project from scratch anymore, they combine pre-writen tools and write little bits of code to tie them all together.

For example, say you wanted to write a RESTful service. Are you going to implement everything from scratch? No, you will probably get a tool that creates a service for you and write a few lines of code to define your inputs and outputs. At most, the "REST" part of your code is probably one file with 10-20 lines of code, most of them boilerplate that your tool made for you. It probably took you 20 minutes at most to make (and consiquently 5 hours to write unit tests for).

That is what I mean. The last project I worked on took a whole year to complete. And if you break it down, it only took 4 people maybe 2 months of that at most to write all of the code for it. The rest of it was designing, tooling, testing, and creating documentation to hand it off to the team that was going to support it. Hell, organizing all the documentation we wrote up through the entire project probably took more work hours then actually coding the project did.

Why not, I'm curious? You seem to know a fuckton more than me and a lot of actual software engineers that I know.

Because Software Engineering is only about 10% coding and 90% engineering. And that 10% can pretty much be learned in a simple google search. The 90% is why you go to college for 4 years and (optionally, although some colleges actually require it like the one I went to) spend a year of internship at a company. The reason for that is no one writes code anymore, they modify existing code to work with whatever system they are making.

That's it, that's THE WHOLE DISC... and thanks to turbo, the first 4 went by in about 2 hours.

Are you forgetting that the third disk of VII was just the final dungeon? At least VIII paced out the story more.

Anywhere City, basically the city from GTA2.

It had a kind of Gotham City meets Mad Max vibe that I think would be pretty cool to see in a fully realized 3D open world. Granted, it wouldn't really look like anything seen in GTA in the last 20 years, but I think GTA could you a bit of a face lift and maybe going back to the "black sheep" of the series would be the way to do it.
