Been sick with something non-Covid. The under-the-tongue (or up-the-butt) thermometer I've had forever decided to die on me and I definitely didn't have any of the weird little batteries it takes lying around. But $20 on Amazon and one day later and this odd looking thing with instructions to aim at my forehead arrived.
So I did and wtf it took my temperature in one second without touching me?! This is like jumping from a flip phone to the newest iPhone. Aliens are real. --- Naz Reid ... Copied to Clipboard!

Contactless IR thermometers have been a thing for a while, but they really took off during the height of Covid, where they were used as a quick, safe way to screen for potentially infectious people. I can't say I've been tracking the prices, but I expect that massive spike in demand caused production to be ramped up to the point that they're now pretty cheap.
