So by 2009 I had a "gaming" PC, but no Windows operating system on it. I was just using Ubuntu. Basically most of what I was doing was getting old games like Starcraft, Fallout 1+2, Doom 3, etc working in Linux. I didn't bother getting Windows 10 until 2010 when I got invited to a PC gaming group by a co-worker. Mostly I think I was playing PS2, Gamecube, and Wii games.

I do remember playing a lot of REMake, Final Fantasy XII, No More Heroes, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, etc.

If you use an ATM to get that cash, then that is certainly not the case as ATMs are the most common place that thieves use card readers to steal your debit card information. You are more likely to be safe using your card for purchases at a store then drawing cash out and using that instead. If you want cash the best thing to do is go into the bank and cash a check at the teller (which is what I do).

I use cash more often now then I used to (mostly because I don't work in an area where there is a high rate of muggings anymore), but I still prefer the convenience of a card, doubly so if they accept Google Pay since all I need to do is unlock my phone and hold it over the scanner.

I realize your whole point is that people should get training to deal with situations like this, but I think this is really one of those things where you don't know how you're going to react in the moment and it isn't fair to look at it with hindsight over the internet in safety and far from the action. Some people rush gunmen with their bare hands and other times trained security runs off as soon as they hear shots fired, it seems like a crap shoot.

The idea is that if you have enough training it takes over as your basic instinct and you just do it without realizing it. Also "trained security" is kind of a broad term, most security guards don't get a lot of training, hell most of them don't even know how to fire a gun.

That said, I don't think it is realistic to expect most civilians to get enough combat training where it would be even viable in a situation like this. The time and effort involved is just disproportionate to the probability the average person has of being in that kind of situation. The best thing to do is just train people to either (in order of preference):

1) Run away from the shooter to the nearest exit, using the mob mentality of "a shooter can't hit everyone who is running away".
2) Barricade yourself in a safe place.
3) Bum-rush the shooter and try to incapacitate them.

That is what most active-shooter training teaches and is pretty easy for a civilian to instinctively do. #3 is obviously a last resort as at that point you are pretty much out of other options.

I mean, I saw Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back in a movie theater in 1983. And I used to have a theater near me that would show movies months later but for like 1/4th the price.

And there's a theater near me that recently showed Godfather I and II one after the other. And I think they did a Back to the Future night with all three movies as well.

And I know one theater near me that shows Rocky Horror Picture Show every Halloween.

Not to mention the fact movies used to be in theaters for a long time before they would get released on home video. I remember watching Jurassic Park in a theater 4 months after it first released, and it was still another 3-4 months before it was released on video.

As a huge fan of the Metal Gear series...don't. The parts relevant to Revengence aren't explained that well in the game. Revengence is pretty much a standalone game and you don't really need any backstory from the previous Metal Gear games.

Got an NES when I was 4 or 5, got a SNES when I was 8, and that was pretty much it until I bought my PS2 in college (then a crap ton more consoles after that). I was mostly a PC gamer because shareware was free and we didn't have a lot of money.

I would love to see another Shinobi game, almost seems like one of Sega's long forgotten franchises. Granted, they had a game about 8 years ago, but it really hasn't had any real traction since 2003.

Anachronox is another game I would love if they continued the story of, even though it isn't technically a "series" (it was supposed to be, but ION Storm shutdown after the first game was released).

At this point, most Linux desktop distros are almost indistinguishable from Windows 10. Last time I downloaded Ubuntu I had to double check I didn't accidently download Windows by accident once I got it running.

Amazon has the best original content of them, plus the 1-2 day shipping is pretty nice. I don't have it but my dad does and he swears by it. I had Netflix for a while, but got bored of it and ended up canceling. Now I mostly just use YouTube Premium (which you get for free with Google Play Music). I don't get a ton of stuff with it, but considering I listen to Google Play Music pretty much all day at work, it is worth the $10 a month.

I watched someone stream the 19 version a few months back, game is more WRPG then most WRPGs out today.

It amazes me that RPG video games (which have a reputation for being complicated and hard to learn) have become super simple while Sports video games (which have a reputation for being simple and for casual player) have become complex simulations.

As much as I like whiskey, they really are meant to be drank in two different situations. Beer is more meant to be drank as a complement to whatever you are eating (similar to wine) while whiskey is meant to be more social. You typically don't pair whiskey with food.

Beat Mass Effect 1, moved on to Mass Effect 2 (which I already owned, but Origin Access game me all of the DLC). Probably will finish that in a day or two depending on how much of the N7 missions I want to complete before moving on to the last story missions. Will probably move on to Mass Effect 3 and see if I can get through that before my Origin Access free month expires (21st).

So far, enjoying the series, but I think I prefer 1 (flaws and all) to the "simplification" that 2 introduced, which if what I heard is any indication means I am probably not going to like 3 at all.

It's not that bad honestly, it is a traditional NES action adventure which most people might consider annoying, but I don't mind them too much. I will say you probably should play the game with a walkthrough nearby because it is really cryptic on what you need to do to beat it. I consider it on par with other NES games like Zelda II, Battle of Olympus, Goonies II, and Rygar.

Plus James has said in the past that Castlevania II is actually one of his favorite games, he just made the video to get a laugh out of his friends who thought he was crazy for liking it.

Mass Effect, got a free month of Origin Access for having an authenticator turned on and since I have had Mass Effect 2 sitting in my library for a few years I decided to give the original a try (since there really wasn't anything else EA I wanted to play).

So far I am loving it, about 10 hours in I am really enjoying it. My only real complaint is I love the side questing but the main storyline stuff is kind of annoying. Like I have a sniper/charisma character yet the game keeps putting me in situations where I can't use him as such. Yet pretty much all of the side quests let me play that way.
Still, love it and will gladly move on to Mass Effect 2 once I beat it.

For all the outrage about how terrible the first trailer was and how many people have praised the second trailer for listening to fans or improving things, I have a sneaking suspicion the movie is still going to tank hard. Because none of the people who've been posting about it are going to bother going to see it regardless.

I don't know; many people I've seen speaking favorably about the new trailer have mentioned planning to see it now to show positive response for taking feedback. That's beside many people just plain liking it.

In this day and age, "I'm going to see it" usually means "I am going to wait until I can see it on a streaming service" or "I am going to watch the pirated version". Not a lot of people are going to go see a movie in theaters just because a company changed some bad CGI into better CGI.

My current is a 65". My last (non-4K) TV was a 47", that is probably the minimum I would consider for my setup. If I was putting the TV in another room (say my bedroom), I might go as low as a 32", but it would probably not be 4K.

I think it depends where all your weight goes. For example, when I was 180 pounds it was all in my stomach. Then when I lost 50 lbs I looked exactly the same except my stomach was thinner. As a result, I have always looked "too thin" even if I am normal weight.

Also, I have been told I have a "large" frame and should have more weight to fill it out.

I haven't had to do it (my cat died a "natural" death and my dog even though he is getting old is still perfectly healthy) but if I did it would be because I want to end the poor animal's suffering, not because they are inconvenient. You know I have never eaten at a Panda Express before, small Chinese places are so common here (one every 3-4 blocks) that they never thought to move in. Closest one to me is actually in Watertown, which is like 2.5 hours away.

Having proprietary support probably hurts more in and of itself than the form that support takes. People have complained forever whenever Sony requires memory sticks or UMDs or whatever else they come up with that isn't compatible with anything else.

That is the thing for me, as much as people complain about Nintendo having small drives/memory, at least I can go into any store and pick up an SD card or a external hard drive and expand it without needing to buy up-charged proprietary storage.

Reviews are kind of mixed, they say it feels early access. So just a warning if you are thinking about picking it up (although it is only $13.50)

I am kind of ambivalent to rogue-likes nowadays. I can have fun with them, but most of the time I just get tired of playing the same thing over and over again so I end up quitting before finishing everything I can in them. Probably won't be picking this game up for that reason, although I could see having some fun with it.

Usually 8.5 hours Monday - Thursday and 6 hours on Friday. Basically I have to be available between 9-4 (minus lunch hour) Monday - Friday so that is my version of "half day Fridays". On Friday lunch I either go out to eat or run some errands. Monday - Thursday I just eat at my desk and work though lunch.

It is admittedly a mess, but I get my 40 hours in all the same.

There is one woman at the Taco Bell drive-through who gives me like 20 hot sauce packets every time. All the other employees usually only give me 4. I think she is like a manager to because I have seen her bossing around the other employees from time to time.

Last time I went to Popeye's they gave me 6 ketchups, 6 regular hot sauces, 5 honeys, 4 mustards, a barbecue sauce, a honey mustard sauce, a Kentucky hot sauce, and a spicy mustard sauce. All for my 3 piece meal. None of which I asked for. However, they didn't give me a fork for my side of mac and cheese.

I have one meeting every 2 weeks that starts at 8:30, but that only means I have to be about 5 minutes early to get to that meeting since I get in at 8:30. Other then that, I have "core" hours of 9:00 to 4:00, then I am free to choose my start and end time as long as I end up with 40 hours and the end of the week (minus PTO).

Depending on my mood all of the above. The kind of games that drag me in the most are the open world action-adventure games though, love just exploring the world and finding every possible thing in them.

I will say the one genre I can never get into are pretty much anything MMO (MMORPG, MOBA, Battle Royal, etc.), I can maybe do small multiplayer games of up to 8 people if I am with the right group but nothing MMO.

None of the topics posted actually break any of those rules. None of the pictures are of the stuff described, none of the content of the posts is doing anything described. The topic you posted and got moderated for broke a pretty obvious rule which the person who moderated you clearly stated why. Any moderations you got after that were for re-posting your moderations or interactions with the moderation staff about said moderations which will always get you moderated again.

Plus, as Mad_Max said, you are more likely to get a response on Hellhole, we only has a couple of moderators that post here regularly (and I use regularly loosely since I only posts a few messages a day usually). Hellhole has a bunch of moderators willing to tell you why something is or isn't a violation.

I think every Kojima game since 3 has had some kind of sponsor from a real life product. I know there was a food item in 3 that was actually a real life product in Japan, and ended up being the most efficient way to keep your hunger meter up and restore health. Plus I also remember 5 having something as well.

Anyways, I probably won't get this game unless it ends up in a Humble Bundle or something. I was a huge fan of the Metal Gear series, but not necessarily Kojima productions. Still would have liked to see what they did with the Silent Hills though (since I am also a huge fan of that series).

Not in my current house, but I have a lot of stray cats around and it is more of a heavily populated area. The house I grew up in we would pretty much get at least one or two every winter. It was near a huge field and there were no cats around so unless you patch up every possible place where they could get in your are going to get them no matter what. We found just a spring trap and some peanut butter would usually take care of them.

All you youngsters don't remember that Metallica destroyed Napster, which was quite literally the best thing to ever happen to music. Boycotted them ever since, not that it was much of a loss.

Considering the state of the modern music industry, I think it is safe to say Napster won that war so boycotting a band over that is kind of petty at this point.

Anyways, I'll go with Metallica. Guns N' Roses only really had one good album (their debut) and even then it would be way better if I didn't have to listen to nasally Axl Rose whine over the chorus. James Hatfield may be monotone but at least his singing voice doesn't make my dog howl.

Some things are nice, but it honestly felt like a rush job because most of the links just go to the old community pages while some (I.E. the least useful ones) are integrated into the new pages. The search features are nice though, it is awesome that I can just narrow down what I am in the mood for by genre, controller support, etc. as opposed to having to go to the store page for a game to figure out what the hell it actually is.

Also, why can't I launch a game from my controller without going into big picture mode? As crap as UPlay is at least it got that aspect right.

So if there is one thing I have learned after becoming a moderator it is that most people who complain about moderations really don't understand why they were moderated in the first place. Sure, a lot of that falls on us for not giving clear explanations about things we moderate (and there are discussions between the moderators on how best to do that) but some of that is just people not getting it. For example, they complain that they get moderated for their political beliefs, yet fail to understand that the way they presented those beliefs is what got them moderated in the first place. Like you can be a Trump supporter and not get moderated, but suggesting that everyone who disagrees with you has a made up mental disorder (TDS) is going to get you moderated every time.

Also the people who complain they get suspended every time they post something, but fail to realize that their moderation history (and the history of all of their known alts) plays a big part in how severe they get punished for even small transgressions.
