Is it unpopular to say that I actually preferred Breath of the Wild over Tears of the Kingdom. Playing Tears of the Kingdom felt like a really big DLC and it didn't hit me the same way Breath did. In addition, I really liked Champions over Sages and the abilities in general felt more "Zelda"-like in Breath. I just feel that awed by Tears. I'm with you on this. Tears of the Kingdom felt a lot more...checklisty, for lack of a better term. Additionally, the sky area and depths felt underdeveloped, and while I know some people loved the building, it kinda just felt like a chore to me. I think the worst part of the sky/depths is that I became less familiar with the main overworld since you're spending so much time going above and below. In BotW, I had a much better sense of where everything was along with the terrain between areas because of how you traverse it. In TotK I was pretty much skipping past a lot of the terrain and never really got to know the map. I still enjoyed TotK, but it definitely didn't match the experience I got from BotW. --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |

VintageGin 11/06/23 4:25:54 PM #136 | Joining the people who think Mario Wonder doesn't make it, even though it's probably my personal GotY. 2D Marios don't generate the same buzz as 3D.
Tears of the Kingdom Baldur's Gate 3 Starfield Spiderman 2 Street Fighter 6 Dave the Diver I think top three are guaranteed, but the others I'm less sure about. Spiderman 2 seems like a safe bet, and SF6 is a high-profile fighting game release. I think those two make sense if the goal is to capture a varied "audience". Dave the Diver is the pick if they decide to include an indie game. While it wasn't on the same level as Vampire Survivors or Stray, it seems like that game was something of a phenomenon for a little while. If they don't go with an indie, I think probably Armored Core 6 in that spot? Maybe Alan Wake 2 or RE4 remake. --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |

I just completed special 1 with only a few deaths, but then died probably 50+ times on special 2. It may just be beyond the capabilities of my reflexes. Most runs end in the same spot when it gets to climbing the 2-block walls, and I know my problem is that I'm not letting go of A fast enough to press it again, but knowing that doesn't seem to make it any easier to improve it. Climb to the Beat is probably the second hardest level in the game in my opinion. Part of the issue I had is that walljumping feels a bit wonky. The main issue I had is that it feels like the game expects you to still be pressing in the direction of the wall when you press jump. So if you change directions to early in your walljump, you'll fall instead. --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |

VintageGin 09/24/23 3:24:24 PM #200 | Been thinking about this some more now it'd been a bit since I beat the game.
The major issue with the game that I have is that it feels like the world was put together from a jumble of "cool ideas", with the story following along a path to get you from one idea to the next. The cast almost feels like an afterthought in a weird way. I thought it was cool that there were various stories about the world that Teaks could tell you, but I found it a little silly how you are shoved into all of them over the course of the story. Part of me longs for something like Planescape: Torment, where you hear about other places but never actually visit those places. It made the world feel so much larger rather than the theme park approach of seeing everything. The cast left a lot to be desired. Obviously everyone talks about the protagonists having no distinguishing personality traits, but Minor gripe: I hate how the game decided to write out "Hahahaha!" whenever someone laughed. I could be wrong, but I feel like Chrono Trigger just used the sprite animations to get this across, and that felt so much more natural. I think the battle system was fine, but it really did need more skills. When I'm still using Moonerang against the last boss it feels kinda...eh. as someone else mentioned, delay is broken as fuck though. Once you figure that out, some of the late game bosses become jokes. I'm a little miffed that the game locked me out of selecting only offensive stat boosts for the entirety of the game. If you're gonna give me a choice, let me commit to it! --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |

As someone who arrived in 2005 Ulti was always this way, the thing I watched people change is how people reacted to it. Yeah agreed on most if not all of this. Ulti was always more or less like this, but in the beginning there was some weird Ulti worship going on. I was a lot more timid back then, so it kinda put me off posting much back then (not that I post a ton now). The alpha male stuff was a real low point for the board. On an unrelated note, I don't get how people constantly fell for Kuge's stories back then when they were all obviously made up. I remember people going into the youtube comments of the To Catch a Predator video trying to explain it was Kuge and it was...strange. --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |

oh speaking of villains, i'm (third island spoilers) Yeah, I'm also confused about this. Hoping there's a better explanation later. So far the game really enjoys delaying any explanations as much as possible. I just got the ability to find out if I missed treasures in previous areas, so I'm doing a bunch of backtracking right now. I've kinda gone back and forth on my opinion of the game. I think Wraith Island was pretty boring and had too much combat without enough to break it up. But the game has felt a bit better since then. I still wish there were more skills. Like, finding new combos is cool, but I do not use those nearly as much. Moonerang is still one of the best skills I have after 15 or so hours, which seems a bit silly. --- Ginhyun http://i.imgur.com/t7G7uoU.gif |
