Yeah, I'd be cautious with who you work with. Some companies can be really pushy and will try to rush you.

We want to get a battery eventually but they are pretty fucking expensive (and we had to replace the roof as part of the project), so currently we are doing without.

One thing I'd keep in mind is that solar credits CANNOT be used to get a tax refund. They can only decrease what you owe in taxes. My understanding is that you have 10 years from installation to claim these, but not sure.

In terms of games that are somewhat similar, definitely agree with what Para said. Tunic and The Witness scratched a similar itch, even though both evoke very different feelings.

I know these aren't what you're looking for, but The Return of the Obra Dinn and The Curse of the Golden Idol occupy a similar space in my mind. Less exploration, but definitely a focus on uncovering and understanding the plot as a means of progression.

I find it interesting that Super Metroid did have a minor element of this, but as far as I can tell they never really did that again?

In terms of mechanics, I found it cool how they present you with what feels like an adequate but limited kit, and then they manage to explore that kit in ways you wouldn't have expected. It really enhanced the feeling of discovery-- that even the tools you have, that you thought you fully understood, have aspects to them that you're not aware of.

The story is something that will stick with me for a long time, and it's a shining example of a narrative that could not be replicated in any other medium. Which also makes it surprisingly hard to recommend to friends! The ones who would find the story interesting don't have the 3D gaming ability required, while the people who do have the requisite skill are either too impatient or have a huge backlog of games and will never actually get to it.

Beat the game a few days ago. Standard difficulty. I only played through the original once, 15+ years ago, so my memory of the original is pretty hazy.

I loved this game, but the nature of remakes and the fact that I'm that much older means that this was never going to hit quite the same as the original. Still, I had a great time throughout, and I think I enjoyed the island more in this game than the original, which is nice.

Difficulty was interesting-- I think the village was harder on standard than the original, but the castle onward felt easier.

Kind of an interesting choice to leave out some iconically cheesy lines but tease us with them in the achievement names.

Did anyone else notice the weird lighting/color correction changes when moving through doors in some areas. Most commonly from transitioning from inside or outside, there would be a sudden color change that was really noticeable. I saw it happening on someone's stream as well, so it seems like it wasn't just me.

Also I had HDR enabled at the beginning and things were just...way too dark. That might be on me though and maybe I need to better configure my monitor.

I'm confused now. What do you mean "expanded treasure map" vs "the ones you buy in game"? You buy the treasure map for each region and it shows you that region's treasures on the map. I didn't think of the treasure maps as "expanded" though, just as... treasure maps. Was there an un-expanded one?

Is it me or are the hitboxes on the shooting range for the third set of challenges kinda bullshit? I swear that multiple times I shot the dynamite and it would register as a regular hit.

Also at some point I shot four targets that were lined up (with the punisher), and it hit everything except the one in front. Which is the one I was explicitly aiming at.

Needless to say getting an S on those was kind of a pain, but I did finally get the Merchant Charm!

I used the bolt thrower for a while, but I found that I wound up taking damage in encounters that I probably wouldn't have if I had just used any other gun. So not sure if it was worth trading a few bullets for a green herb.

Loading it with mines is cool though.

Yeah Ada's voice is just...off. Although I do think part of it is that it's just so different from what I expect Ada to sound like.

Also does this game have a dynamic difficulty system similar to the original? I failed the Bella Sisters fight twice and noticed that I picked up different items before the fight (notably, an additional grenade).

Man, the cabin holdout, Mendez fight, and the stupid catapults exhausted all of my healing supplies. All of my eggs, gone.

There's a reward for every 1000 points beyond the top score medal you get. You should see 1 star if you got 1000 over and 2 stars if you got 2000 over

Something I thought was very sneaky on the third shooting range challenge is that one of the skulls is hidden behind a barrel, so you have to shoot the barrel twice to reveal it.

I feel like there's a number of changes that were done just to fuck with people who are going off their memories of the original, and I'm loving it.

Nah we could fuck over our economy big with a few major cities. But our country is too entrenched in shitty ideals about capitalism. So many people are convinced those above them are looking out for them.

If people don't see the protest they will not care and attribute it to whatever their preferred media tells them to think about it. People in Iowa are not going to be moved by an LA general strike, regardless of the economic impact. The conservatives there will just continue talking about how much CA sucks. It really is a problem with how big the country is.

Not to mention coordinating a general strike in one major city is hard enough-- doing it in several that are spread out across the country is much harder if not impossible.

And it isn't just that people are too entrenched in their love of capitalism that prevents a general strike. It's that too many people can't afford to lose their job-- social safety nets here are so bad that it's much harder to convince people to risk their livelihood, especially when so many are living paycheck to paycheck.
