Dogs are good.

The love for cats is what perplexes me. Dumb animals that get on top of everything, ruin furniture with their claws/urine, and have no real sense of loyalty. Not to mention the environmental issues created by outdoor cats and the fact that their owners frequently give them a free pass to do whatever.

Ok, I'm late to this, but the insistence that everything is the fault of disinformation campaigns by bots is pretty stupid/lazy. While I don't doubt that it is happening to some extent, there are more more than enough regular-ass bad faith actors that we don't need to attribute it all to the bots.

Unless...perhaps all of these conspiracy theories about bots are being pushed by US centrist bots?!

Octopath Traveler (didn't truly beat this one, but got wiped like two hours into the final boss and decided "fuck this")
Rise of the Tomb Raider was not very good, but part of my dislike I attribute to wanting to 100% it and sticking with it, despite how utterly boring it was to collect everything
And Yet It Moves was a pretty crappy indie game that got some acclaim at the time
Golden Sun was a weirdly mediocre game for how much praise it seemed to get. I also couldn't believe it ended on a cliffhanger...never did play the second part.

I own and have beaten Quest 64, but I have a bit of a soft spot for that game since I was a dumb child at the time and enjoyed it back then. I know I wouldn't like it if I replayed it (or maybe I would purely off the nostalgia trip?)

UF8: I have not played Obra Dinn, and I'm honestly not sure at a glance whether I would love it or completely balk if I tried it.

Have you played Outer Wilds? I feel like those two games are in the camp of, "if you've played one and enjoyed it, you'll probably enjoy the other." I wholeheartedly recommend both games.

From the list, the games that stick out to me are:
Hotline Miami
Cuphead
Baba is You

Hotline Miami is great if you want fast-paced action that has quick retries. It feels really good when you figure out how to approach a level and nail the execution.

Cuphead is a really satisfying 2D shooter with some of the coolest animation in a game.

Baba is You is tough. It's a puzzle game I still haven't beaten after years of owning it, but it's so good. Like someone else mentioned, it's nice to return to (especially with others who you can quickly explain the game to) and solve puzzles after you've been away for a while.

I mean the other side, even on this board, has called trans people mentally ill and mocked their very existence. Should people pretend that this has merit and that trans people should have to listen to that shit?

Is there a point where we can stop pretending "both sides" have good points? Like, how long do people have to listen to the Trump fan who posted Alex Jones shit all the time and still thinks masks do nothing before they can write him off as not worth their time?

I mean, you are defending people pretty hard based upon a lack of complete information.

Maybe we wait to decide if it was warranted?

All we know so far is it has been said "It was warranted because X, Y and Z".

And if that is true, then I would agree.

What else do you want us to say at this point?

What SEP said, but I also want to add to this.

I get that your intention was not to take sides, but a statement like your first one in this topic is not neutral on its face. For instance, say someone else said something along the lines of, "From what I understand, there are claims of voter fraud, and if that's the case the election deserves to be overturned." Would you agree that's definitely framing the situation in a non-neutral way?

I'm not going to pretend to be neutral myself, but historically in situations where it's a company (or company head) vs workers, things are pretty stacked against the workers. And I think we should be inclined to distrust the people who have magnitudes more power and control over the situation.

I also don't want this to come off as an attack or anything, though I know my first post was rather flippant.

I mean, clearly how i feel about their terminations directly relates to how accurate the reporting is about the information they had gathered about work habits.

IF that information is accurate then it's hard not to view it as fair.

IF that information is not accurate then this has the potential to be a real tragedy.

Metrics that he hasn't actually shared, just claimed to have. The very equivalent of "just trust me, bro"

Why should we believe anything he says when it is going to be as biased and one-sided as possible? I think it's dangerous to just accept the justification of "they were all just lazy leeches" blindly without any real consideration.

Even if those metrics are true, what's your expectation for workers to do in the case where there isn't eight hours of work? Just start reporting less even if they can't survive on ten hours per week? Be less efficient so tasks drag out and take longer? There's very frequently ups and downs in the amount of work for a given office job.

My understanding is that they had metrics showing that some (a good chunk?) of those fired were only actively working 2~ hours a day while logging 8+ while working from home.

Certainly for anyone that was the case for this is a "fair, next" situation.

StealThisSheen posted...
For what it's worth, it sounds less like these people were just not doing anything, and more like they were straight up avoiding work. Stuff like not taking or making calls, not taking client meetings, etc. It gets dicey when you're missing actual metrics that can be checked and measured.

Ah yes, let's take the word of the CEO, who is in a role that famously attracts only the best of humanity.

Anyway he's now "on leave" after three execs left and the board got mad at him for attracting so much negative press.

Bastion > Transistor > Hades > Pyre for me

My love of Bastion is admittedly probably influenced by the fact that it came first, but the narration, the art, and just everything made that experience something special.

Transistor was neat and was an interesting twist on action combat. The story felt compelling too, but it overall left less of an impression on me.

Hades is a very well-designed game, but roguelikes/roguelites rarely do it for me. I basically escaped once and then checked out of the game.

Pyre was interesting but the main mechanic of the game made it so I could no longer use the characters I cared about the most, and then I lost interest and stopped playing.
