Also Cleave is a mechanic that I remember seeing on a bunch of custom magic cards. Always thought that it had reading complexity issues, but I guess not.

Then again, after mutate, I guess complexity is not that huge of a concern for Wizards.

when i first found out about faeria, i was super interested, but it was already dead- i was very sad. i've heard maybe it was resuscitated by being released on the switch (?)

its resource system seems similar to android: netrunner, which is the best card game i've ever played. time is the primary resource- each player has 3 or 4 "clicks" each turn with which they can do stuff like draw a card, gain money, install a program or hardware, "run" a server, etc etc

the randomness or variance factor of android: netrunner comes from the sheer volume of hidden information and mind games

I doubt it's that much more popular since getting released on Switch. The issue with Faeria is game length-- while I enjoyed it, it's a fact that games take twice as long as other online card games due to the board.

Not sure I'd really compare Faeria to Netrunner though. Netrunner does have the feeling of building a board due to the fact that you can create servers and set up ICE in front of those servers, but clicks are static whereas in Faeria the amount of Faeria you can gather per turn is controlled by how many creatures you have at wells. The second resource, special land types, are something you can choose to place on the board at any time (once per turn), but doing so prevents you from developing your board with double normal lands or drawing an extra card.

i recommend checking out keyforge, at least as a study. you draw up to your hand size every turn, and have infinite mana of one color of your choice each turn. the randomness or variance factor of keyforge comes from the fact that your deck is forced to be 3 colors, so your hand might not align with what you most want

i mentioned before that FFTCG allows you to pitch cards to generate mana, so it seems to be a recurring trend

I tried Keyforge, and I'm not sure how I feel about the way it plays in terms of factions. Since you can only interact with cards of the chosen faction (on board and in hand) it always felt like I was just choosing the same faction over and over until I reached a tipping point in my hand.

Faeria has the best resource system of any card game I've played, but that's entirely due to the fact that it has a board to build on.

Flesh and Blood has a decent system in that pretty much every card can be "pitched" for some amount of resources to pay for your other cards/abilities. But it's also a drastically different game where you're drawing up to your hand size every turn.

My reservation timeline says Q2 2022, which is fine by me. Gives me time to see the general sentiment and make sure I want to commit.

I am pretty optimistic about this though! I think it'd have to be seriously flawed in some way to not be worth it (to me, at least). Portable gameplay (plus suspend) is huge, and there also the benefit of being able to use it easily for playing LAN with friends.

Just bought my wife a Pixel 4A 5G. It essentially seems like a cheaper 5.

Here is what 5 has that the 4A 5G does not:

-8GB of RAM instead of 6GB.
-Wireless charging
-90 hz refresh rate instead of 60

Here is what 4A 5G has that 5 does not:

-Headphone jack.

.

For my wife's purposes she was not going to care about the functions she's missing out on so it's just $200 cheaper for the same phone basically, and she actually likes having a headphone jack so that's a big plus in her book. And they have the same camera which was her primary ask.

Wait they brought back the headphone jack? I thought they removed it

Index if you want a top of the line VR headset and finger tracking (only relevant in a handful of games like Half-Life Alyx). This requires some dedicated space as you need to set up tracking towers.

Quest 2 if you want a standalone headset experience. Word of warning, a Facebook account is required for this and if you somehow lose access to the FB account or it gets banned, your headset is useless.

In terms of games, I keep meaning to play more, but honestly my wife and I just ended up sinking hundreds of hours into Beatsaber instead.

It's a lot, but it's not a monopoly. Their competition is larger than they are

(And as I also mentioned, one should really be including brick and mortar sales; apparently e-commerce was ~14% of retail in 2020, so Amazon would be less than 6%).

Yes if you broaden the category to include just about everything, it's not so bad!

Starting with such a broad category like ecommerce is ridiculously disingenuous to begin with. Amazon's not selling things like cars or niche products like trading card singles, so it's not competing in those areas. Ecommerce also generally includes both B2B and B2C and last I checked Amazon is only doing the latter.

I'm fine with losing Amazon Basics after the tripod story where they copied the design of a small business and then banned that business from Amazon. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't more plagiarism among Amazon Basics designs.

Of the five bill summaries in that article, the only one that seems pretty questionable is the data transfer/interoperability one. That one just doesn't seem feasible from an implementation standpoint since it would require standards that I'm pretty sure don't exist (and who gets to create those standards?)

The others seem reasonable for allowing others to compete and would cost mostly minor conveniences.

I have trouble playing without trying to optimize in some way-- looking for all the hidden items before moving on, resetting after a stealth failure, constantly checking to make sure I don't miss something permanently.

On a related note, getting locked into a strategy that works but is kinda boring instead trying something more dynamic and interesting. "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game," rings pretty true.

The median household income is around 50k.

On what basis is 3 to 4 times that still in the middle?

Median household income in my county is $100k. Rough estimates usually put 2x median as the bound between middle and upper class. So $150k - $200k would still fall within middle in this case.

"Middle class" is an increasingly nebulous term. It's a pretty wide range of incomes/lifestyles and depends a lot on where you live.

There's a lot of people who think they're upper class but are actually middle class, and there's a lot of upper class people who claim to be middle class. So it gets pretty muddled.

Just beat it. This is actually the only RE game I've really played aside from RE4 (played a tiny bit of REmake, but that's it).

Enjoyed the game overall, though I think the first half was stronger than the second half. Castle was good stuff, and I actually thought the change of pace with House Beneviento was refreshing. I liked that it went in a completely different direction with things.

The fish section felt very underdeveloped. There needed to be more time spent evading the fish or something. It felt like the most barebones section. Also, I'm annoyed that I accidentally left that area and couldn't go back to collect the things I missed.

The Heisenberg section felt too long. I think the part prior to the factory where you collect the torso probably could have been axed.

Ethan pasting his hand back on and "boulder-punching asshole" were peak comedy though
