Would you want to live until you're 180?

47 y/o Americna Tec Millionaire, Dave Asprey, a lifestyle guru is determined ot live until he is 180 YEARS OLD in the year2153 as he predicts his bizarre methods will soon become as popular as cell phones!!

He plans on using techniques such as sitting in cold cryotherapy chamber and intermittent-fasting to do it

He coined the term "Biohackign" to describe his methods of turning back the biological clock, which includes having parts of his bone marrow REMOVED to then have stem cells injected into his back for 25,000

He speculatd many under 40s will be happy and highly functional at 100 year olds after applying his methods to live longer

When asked why he wants to live so long, he said "I'm curious, it hink there's a lot of things we can fix and improve in the world an di don't feel like i'm at all done yet"

When asked if that meant leaving his loved ones bheind, he said "I don't think i'll be the only one doing that. The things i am working to pioneer, some of them are expensive, some of them are free like fsting. This will be like cell phones, everyone has cell phones, everyone wll have anti-ageing. Change can happen rapidly in society. There will be many people who are under 40 right now who will be walking around under their own power perfectly happy, highly functional, who are more than 100 years old"

He spent a massive 1 million on techniques and hacks to try and improve his body functioning even by removing his stem cells..which "re-introduced" into his body

Now he says he probably has more stem cells than anybody else on the planet as he sets himself up to have much less inflammation by controlling what he eats and how he sleeps. He believes the more stem cells he has, the faster they heal like young people

He also believes in cryotherapy that is th use of low temperatures in medical therapy to treat a variety of tissue lesions and he's been having COLD SHOWERS for over 10 years

He has a liquid nitrogen powered chamber downstairs as he says it makes a huge difference in his body and having more energy

Fasting also helps restrict times he eats meals which will prevent disease as it allows the body to "repair itself"

In his mind, if you have an earlier dinner and wait a little longer to have breakfast, you can go 14-16 hours without eating as if you do that, your chances of diabetes go down and heart attacks and strokes and cancer and alzheimers also go down which are in itself, the diseases of ageing.

I mean good on him for trying and not being an absolute ass about, but I doubt any of will double your lifespan. The stem cell therapy could definitely help with some things though.

What a world.
Science is continuously finding ways to keep people "alive" on machines for years or even decades.
But someone trying to actually find a way to remain youthful and healthy so that he can live longer is weird and asked why.

Poll: Absolutely, I want to live as long as possible and stay in as good health for as long as possible. Most of his stuff sounds silly, but the stem cells probably are helping. Infusions of young healthy bone marrow might be genuinely useful, too. Studying telemorase still seems like the main key to extending human lifespan, though.

There's some legitimate science behind what he's doing believe it or not.

It's very documented that when you force your body to be in "repair/survive" mode at all times it does slow down aging. It's just very stressful.

But doesn't stress speed up aging? So wouldn't it cancel out? lol

the article doesn't mention it but what you theoretically need is to reverse or delay telomere shortening.

basically, (to over-simplify) cancer is caused by the fact that we have regeneration (cancer is out-of-control regeneration), so to prevent that we have natural "time to live" counters (telomeres) that limit the number of times cells can split so that regeneration can't happen forever. this helps protect us from cancer but curses us with biological aging.

the problems are:
- if you do actually reverse or get rid of the "time to live" mechanism (and there are ways of doing so), you tend to end up significantly more vulnerable to cancer (in fact, that is often *why* people get cancer: because something like that happened in some of your tissues, and now those tissues are regenerating without bound). (though there are animals that are resistant to cancer despite also avoiding telomere shortening, so it's not strictly impossible to achieve.)

- as I often point out, even if you get rid of biological aging, you can't get rid of temporal aging. a lot of getting old is just wear and tear and poor maintenance of your body. making as healthy choices as you can will definitely help but that doesn't mean you're going to live 50% longer than anyone ever has before. I don't think people that live to 100+ are even necessarily those particular people that lived the healthiest lives.

I think people spend too much time and effort worrying about extending their lives that they end up waisting it trying to eek a few extra years out. Some people who do everything right die in their early 50's of cancer like my uncle, some people eat nothing but fried foods and sugar and live to be in their 90's like my grandmother. Hell, my grandfather is 94 years old and has had heart problems for the last 50 years, still more active than most people 40 years younger than him. He even replaced the gutters on my dad's house last summer.

My big brother is 50 and looks way better than that. Granted he's a fisherman so is physically active. But I also know a university professor who's 60 and looks much better than that. He could pass for 45 easy. His face and skin look way younger than 60. That's the point. This guy here his face looks really old for only 47 he looks at least 10 years older. Anybody can look pretty good body wise if they work out.

180 isn't a bad start, but why just 180?

His physical fitness is still good, but he looks older than 47. If I walked past him on the street, I would assume he was pushing 60 and going through a later-life crisis. Meanwhile I've met people in their 50s -- who don't work out at all -- who look maybe 30s because they still have their original hair color and, in many cases, are a bit on the heavier side so the aging doesn't show as much.
