It's like the guy doesn't know how to create actual plot tension without pulling out some unbelievably childish nonsense and then plays it off as twee humour so that no one can criticise him for it.

Dracula episode 3. Dracula gets out of prison because he manages to call a lawyer because he was able to go on skype because he was able to log onto the internet because the company Wifi password is..."Dracula". They let the lawyer straight into the prison cell of this ultra top security facility and a silly conversation ensues.

This is an actual moment in the show. Dracula was able to escape from a high security top secret facility because the wifi password was Dracula.

It's infuriating not because it's just bad. If it was simply bad you could dismiss the entire show. it's infuriating because he lets off these little glimpses of writing genius and then it's like he has a 4am coke binge and that's when the other half of the script gets done.

He did this with Doctor Who and with Sherlock. It's like the guy has a reflex where if anything ever gets too dramatic he has to insert some tellytubbies level comedy in to break the tension.

He starts things well but never ends them properly.

Does TC know Doctor Who is meant to be dumb and camp comedy?

I honestly always felt like Moffat just thought he was smarter than he really was, from watching Doctor Who. The ideas were there, but he always got in his own way like what you described.

It's a real shame how it developed because the first episode was great and it really should have kept going in the same direction.

Agreed. First episode was the perfect tone and setting. It was dark, the humour was twisted, the production was stellar. By episode 3 though it was like a british take on Lucifer.
