Why are fireworks getting blamed for dogs running away? Unless the fireworks are destroying walls/fences, it sounds more like the dogs could just escape whenever something scares them. That's not very responsible pet ownership.

When my last dog got older we did our usual 4th of july family beach trip before coming hope just before dark.

She chewed through the wooden sliding door in the back enough to break it and slide it open to get inside.

Animals can be unpredictable.

I have a friend who lost their cat in 2019 because fireworks scared her outside the house. Their housemate accidentally opened the door to come inside at the wrong time and that was enough. Never saw the cat again.

Just build a soundproof room for the pets, one of those ones so totally silent that people go insane within an hour. Easy

if your mentally deficient roommate runs away and never comes back when they hear loud noises, i don't think you can blame your neighbors

Feral cats live 1/3 as long, and being feral is not the same as being an outdoor cat. Trying to equate the two is like comparing homeless people to hikers. The reason your house pet cat shouldn't go outside is a combination of the dangers to it and the dangers it poses (including breeding feral cats), but it's not going to face nearly as many dangers as an ownerless, homeless cat.

Once your cat is outside and out of sight what makes it any different than a feral cat besides making babies

When I was a teenager my dog ran away on New Years precisely because of some dickhead doing fireworks, and we found her a day later dead on the side of the highway, about a mile from home.

In summary: fuck fireworks in residential neighborhoods.

One of my best friends growing up had four outdoor cats, not at once, because their family wanted cats but didn't want to deal with litter boxes on a regular basis. Two were killed by cars, one was mortally wounded by an unknown creature, and the other left to become an indoor cat by an elderly couple after they regularly fed it.

Outdoor cats make no sense in a suburban or urban enviornment. Rural too because they can wreck ecosystems (which they can do in suburban/urban), but I just wanted to point out that there are too many dangers to their lives.

That analogy is also flawed in that a cat is not a human and will make cat decisions while outside while a homeless person is still capable of making human decisions.

Did you guys watch the actual tiktok? Cringe isn't a strong enough word...
