Is harassing online trans people considered transphobia
Is using a deadname or misgendering someone on purpose considered transphobia
Is saying MTF Trans people shouldn't take part in women's sport because they have physical advantage considered transphobia
Is saying that Sex reassignment surgery shouldn't be paid by the state considered transphobia

Is the answer to all above questions considered "yes, it's transphobic"? or just some of them? where do you draw the line? where do I should draw the line? is there a consensus?

I dunno but I feel like labeling someone a "bigot transphobe" because of the last two examples feels a bit unfair when you label him in the same way as someone that does the first two examples

The last example you gave depends on why you are against it. Like if you don't believe in universal health care for some reason.

I wasn't sure about this topic at first. The premise seemed too obvious and too dumb to really draw out anything worthwhile. But honestly, nine pages in, and there have been plenty of hilarious posts. I have to give credit to masterplum for asking the questions that no one else would even think to ask.

Anyway, after this post, I will be putting every user on the board on ignore. I just can't stand the idea that someone might quote a post from someone who I don't approve of speaking to, and unfortunately this extends to the idea that someone might continue to interact with a person I've already deemed as an untouchable. It might be better if I block everyone preemptively, for the sake of my mental health.

Yeah it wasn't "everyone is bad", it was "there are some people who seem unsafe to be around"

Especially considering there didn't used to be a block feature, that plus how often bad users showed up with new alts made it hard to stay safe.

I feel like block is kinda useless because as I understand it people can get around it by just logging out, and the kinds of people I'd care enough to block instead of ignore are....the kinds of people who would do that

Also. How I was treated when I first started posting here in 2004. I was accused of being a "Guy in real life" and that I was "pretending to be a girl"
I have never been a guy. I am fine being called a girl. I actually got more feminine as I got older because I hated being called a guy. (I had really short hair and dressed boyish as a child.)
So when you all thought I was a guy trolling it hurt me.
I had always thought I was somehow "made into a girl" as a child since I wasn't girly. And then I cried because I didn't want to be a boy.

I knew of the term "genderqueer" but that didn't fit me since I wasn't androgynous at all. I just decided I was who I was and that I wouldn't let my self be made fun of.
And that is how I will continue to be. I wear what I want, and that does include dresses sometimes. I like how fabric flows.

I do remember MYC for being a jerk, but I also thought she was "pretending to be a girl for attention" and some of that was because I wasn't believed when I said I was a girl, but people believed her. I guess I was jealous, maybe, that people accepted her?

i wouldn't attack anyone for making jokes in the initial topic (though i don't think those were right either) but MYC literally followed jp around making those jokes for months and months

Honestly I think b8 (NOW, not the jp and MYC days-- those were awful times where most of us were high school age and it showed) is pretty chill and nice.

yeah. think about the absolutely wide span of gender expressions that he/him and she/her covers. I'd like to hear arguments as to why neopronouns are needed over they/them, aside from the pedantic singular/plural BS.

Well, it's just often that you're sharing your viewpoint with people that are undisputedly the unredeemable scum of the earth and it's been long enough that decent people should know better and I'm getting too old to care much about educating yet another person when it turns out at the end nothing will change. It's just an emotional tax and I ran out of patience for it many years ago. Too many. But I'm glad people I wouldn't even expect are saying they/them NB is okay now and not even with a qualifier that they secretly think it's stupid.

I think one of the hard things to understand is that while I agree with you about actual extremes the political landscape in the United States especially is so skewed to the right on so many issues that "the left" is labeled extreme for things such as universal healthcare, which I don't think you would label as as an extreme view point but is faced in our every day lives. I don't know anyone who simply writes off someone without discussion, but given that extreme right views are more common there is a lot of nasty stuff to write off, unfortunately.

Politics topic is fun because you can see [current event that would upset them], drive through and post [take about current event that will upset them], leave, and not have to think about it for another few months.
