Personally, I got used to the performance issues in AoC to the point where I don't consciously think about it. It almost feels like a bullet-time feature that belongs there, like Gradius III for the SNES (sorry, obscure reference). Objectively speaking, the performance is as poor as every says; subjectively, it may or may not bother you.

3D World is a beautiful, polished game... but I'd play something new.

Tropical Freeze is the best 2D platformer there is. I used to prefer DKC2 for its darker tone and it still makes me feel nostalgic in ways that Tropical Freeze cant... but Ive come to appreciate Tropical Freezes mishmash of style more with each passing year.

Can't argue with you on the frame rate; it's really choppy. The controls were great for their time though, and they held up for many, many years. 1.2 Solitaire puts movement on the c-buttons, more akin to KB&M, and the 2.x options feel really good. The z-trigger is still more satisfying than the trigger buttons used for shooting today, which are placed closer to the shoulder.

As has been mentioned, the objective structure was a game-changer. Also the game handled difficulty levels brilliantly; instead of simply making enemies spongier, the game adds tougher objectives which are a great incentive to keep playing.

The US has been rapidly losing ground over the last 20 years, but US President is still the most powerful position in the world, undisputed in my mind. Granted, that power is temporary for each individual person who holds the office, and some presidents fail to effectively wield their power.

The card rule RNG is annoying but can be reliably manipulated in some circumstances. Turbo mode makes drawing painless and is reason enough to consider this version definitive, imho.

Biden is still the favorite, but it looks like the polls may actually be wrong this year in a significant, "outside the margins of error" way. Biden could absorb a 2016-level polling miss and still win but this looks more severe.

Trumps 10% chance is looking more like 30% now. The polling error has been in Trumps favor again, but Biden is still in a better position to win.

Yeah, statistically Biden is clearly favored to win. Trump's odds will break into the single digits by election day. Still, I feel uncomfortable about the election in the same way that I feel uncomfortable about Russian roulette. The odds don't make for a perfect analogy, but my point is that the consequences are so dire that even a relatively low probability is worrisome.

Biden can absorb a polling miss on the same scale as 2016 and still win the swing states by a point or two. Unless something crazy happens in the next few days, Trump needs the polls to be flat out wrong (i.e. outside of their margin of error, all correlated in the same direction) in order to win legitimately-- not impossible but not especially likely. (Never mind illegitimate ways of declaring "victory").

The polls weren't wrong in 2016. There was systematic polling error, within the margin of error.

State-level polls in 2020 show Trump behind by more than the margin of error in several states he needs to win. Trump needs both polling error and a last-minute shift in the polls in order to have a shot (setting aside voter suppression and other fuckery that can't really be measured).

I no reason see why civil liberties and small government can't coexist. Granted, the US is facing some pretty big problems which require big government solutions right now. But still, it's not like the Nordic model is the sole path to a free and equitable society.

In 538's methodology the only bias that exists that I can identify is the numbers his model uses come from polls conducted by other people. So whatever failure in their methodology becomes a failure in Silver's model.

Not only do they grade the pollsters, they adjust some of them too. For example, when there aren't enough good public polls, they'll sometimes turn to internal / campaign-run polls and adjust them. Data that is reliably biased by a consistent amount in one direction is still better than no data at all, provided you have a way to empirically adjust it.

Yeah, 538 is trying really hard to explain their probabilities in terms a 5 year-old could understand... hence the fluffy language and cartoon furry mascot this year. They got a ton of shit from innumerate critics in 2016 and this is their attempt to correct their coverage. Instead of over-correcting the math, they've just added more uncertainty into the model and dumbed down the presentation on their webpage. Theres nothing quite like Sonic & Knuckles. Its hard to explain how cool lock-on technology was at the time. It retroactively made other Sonic games even better.

Sonic Mania is the most complete package though.
