Republican senator says he will step in if Biden doesn't have access to intelligence briefings by Friday

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford said Wednesday that he will intervene if the Trump administration has not allowed President-elect Joe Biden access to presidential daily intelligence briefings by the end of the week, one of the first rights of a presidential candidate after winning the election.

"There is no loss from him getting the briefings and to be able to do that," Lankford told radio station KRMG, noting that he sits on the Senate Oversight Committee and that he's already started engaging on this issue.

The Oklahoma Republican said if no progress is made on the issue by Friday, he will step in and say, "This needs to occur so that regardless of the outcome of the election, whichever way that it goes, people can be ready for that actual task."

Jfc what is this nonsense new narrative and have the people saying it ever experienced elections before this one? The media and news networks making a "call" for the election isn't them deciding who wins. They are REPORTING the counts, and when the margin becomes unwinnable or virtually unwinnable, they know a state will favor that candidate. That's what a "call" is. And when a candidate gets 270 electoral votes, they win the presidency.

The voters decide the election, and the media is simply reporting, key word, the numbers based on hard-working poll workers from all across the country who are counting ballots. And because we still live in a democracy, our poll workers did their fucking job.

1. Why? No other president elect has ever done this including Trump (and Gore)
2. Biden really isn't bragging about it. He's being ridiclously calm and collected. His entire message is about unity, not bragging about victory. The fact his win is indisputable but undeclared doesn't matter.

This happens in sport all the time. Teams win their league before the season is over and they celebrate.

Sen. Lindsey Graham told CNN Thursday he thinks President-elect Joe Biden should get intelligence briefings starting now.

Yeah, I think he should, said Graham, a close ally of President Trump.

The President has not conceded the election to Biden and has refused to allow a formal transition period to begin, including giving Biden access to the classified updates the Presidents gets each day.

Graham said he has not expressed his thoughts with the White House but said, "I hope so," when asked if he expects Biden to get the briefings soon.

Another influential Republican, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, said, "yeah, I dont think that would hurt," for Biden to start getting the briefings now, as a handful of other Republicans have said they support this.

Graham and Portman joined other senior Republicans who say Biden should have access to classified briefings.
