finally Played it a few days ago and couldnt make it past the fourth level due to how awful it was to play.

frame rate must have dropped into the single digits at times and the controls are so impractical for a FPS.

really dont get the reasoning for it to be considered a goat game.

There's a reason why it's often cited as one of the most poorly-aged influential games. It was incredible at the time (I honestly didn't even care much for the genre before Goldeneye), but today, it's almost unplayable.

Honestly the multiplayer was something else at the time. Was not really seen on consoles. Was really fun.

Nearly every game from that generation has aged terribly. I can't imagine many new players ever having an interest in playing most N64 games.

It was the first popular game that actually had objectives. Your goal was not simply to get to the end of the level. Also, Goldeneye is still pretty playable if you play it at 60 FPS with a mouse and keyboard.

Some of things that nobody else talked about - The way the single player was. It had pretty quick levels, and 4 levels of difficulty. You could also pick any level in the game and play, so it made speed running a lot of fun as well, which wasn't a big thing back there. Then you had the cheats you could unlock by doing certain things, which made fun to just go in and destroy things for fun once you beat the game.

Then of course you have what the others have talked about - The multiplayer, some people's first FPS game, the movie license, the music, and of course -

This is why it was the first FPS to really hold my interest. The objective structure hadn't really been done like that before.

Kidding aside, I still think it's the best wrestling engine to make for a pro wrestling game. I think the Fire Pro system is a lot better, but I don't think that should be the main thing because it's hard to pick up and play.

Can't argue with you on the frame rate; it's really choppy. The controls were great for their time though, and they held up for many, many years. 1.2 Solitaire puts movement on the c-buttons, more akin to KB&M, and the 2.x options feel really good. The z-trigger is still more satisfying than the trigger buttons used for shooting today, which are placed closer to the shoulder.

As has been mentioned, the objective structure was a game-changer. Also the game handled difficulty levels brilliantly; instead of simply making enemies spongier, the game adds tougher objectives which are a great incentive to keep playing.

SvR 07 is absolute garbage. Actual candidates are HCTP, Day of Reckoning 2 and SvR 06.
