My best friend says the f slur because he thinks it's funny, and is pretty viscerally anti-trans at points. I've known him since high school, and if he starts getting bad about it I comment on it. He's personable enough around everyone, including gay people, but if he ever got into a trans person's face and called them mentally ill or something, I would probably scold him.

Considering how much of a lefty I am, why am I friends with someone like that? Because we have a very similar sense of humour which leads to excellent banter. Outside of the shitty stuff, we're on the same wavelength where we can just talk about the worst stuff and laugh about it while everyone else thinks we're insane. That kind of friendship takes years to form, and our mutual sense of humour is one in a million.

I would also say that we're probably the most comfortable around each other. I'm a bit of an emotional crutch when my friends are going through a hard time, because I don't change much and they know I care. My friends are more extroverted than I am, so they facilitate conversations and help me interact with other people. This best friend is the social lynchpin of my entire friend group, without him I wouldn't know 3/4ths of my current friends and a lot of people wouldn't have met each other. In return, I pick him up when he falls over and offer a familiar experience, even when things are shit.

I hate when he uses the f slur, like I physically cringe. I hate it. And like I said, if he slagged off a trans person on the basis of their gender identity, I would side with the trans person. But we're such good friends otherwise, and we give each other the space we need politically. We're actually pretty close politically, it's just the identity stuff where we differ.

My Christmas is going well enough. I just felt like posting on CE for a bit, and while I'm at it, why not insult some racists?

I'm surrounded by family and I have friends on Discord I can be merry with this Christmas - I'm fulfilled, and I feel fine. My desire to call bigots low-IQ scum is a function of my comfort - no mod is going to moderate "you're a stupid motherfucker if you're a racist shithead", and I think that's funny. If a thread like this will ruin anyone's Christmas, it's more likely to be a bigot than not - and that in itself is a funny thought too.

There's a cartoon where Bugs is being hunted by like a really stupid racist caricature of a black man, with the racist lips and everything. It is literally an Elmer Fudd cartoon where the hunter is 10x as incompetent as Fudd, completely unfunny and charmless due to a slow-witted drawl, and only exists to be a truly horrific and disgusting caricature of another race rather than to be entertaining in any other way.

It could have been a subpar Elmer Fudd cartoon, but they used the whole thing to depict a slow-witted, drawling racist caricature of a black man with large white lips. It's fucking mortifying.

UK-based grocery chain Tesco has halted production at a factory in China after a British newspaper reported it used forced labour to produce charity Christmas cards for the supermarket.

Tesco said it also launched an investigation of the Chinese supplier it hired to make the holiday cards, Zheijiang Yunguang Printing, after the Sunday Times raised questions about the factory's labour practices.

The newspaper said the potentially problematic province of the cards came to light when a 6-year-old girl in south London found a card in her box already had a message written inside.

It read: "We are foreign prisoners in Shanghai Qinqpu prison China forced to work against our will. Please help us and notify human rights organisation."

The writer asked whoever received the note to contact Peter Humphrey, a former British journalist who was detained in China while working as a corporate investigator and spent time at the same Shanghai prison.

The London girl's father, Ben Widdicombe, said Sunday they at first thought the message was a "prank."

"On reflection, we realised it was actually potentially quite a serious thing," Widdicombe said.

"So I felt very shocked, but also a responsibility to pass it on to Peter Humphrey as the author asked me to do."

He said the message was eye opening: "It hits home there are injustices in the world and difficult situations that we know about and read about each and every day."

Widdicombe said finding the message shortly before Christmas was poignant and that he told his daughter, Florence, what it might mean.

"We explained that the person who wrote it was a prisoner in China and that the person felt the prison guards were being mean, making them do work, they felt really sad," the father said.

Humphrey told the BBC he thinks he knows who wrote the message. He said he won't identify the person for fear the inmate would face retribution.

Humphrey said he was "pretty sure" it was put inside the card by a group of prisoners as a collective request for help.

Tesco said it was "shocked" by the discovery and would never allow prison labour in its supply chain.
