The BK version of the impossible burger is, objectively, worse than a regular whopper. It has way more sodium, way less protein, more cholesterol, and is somehow higher calorie. Whatever they do the the "impossible" formula to make it taste like a regular whopper, it completely kills whatever health benefits it would otherwise have.

I've tried the meatless burger over at Carls Jr. when they were doing their free promotional, and it actually wasn't bad. You can tell it's not real meat, but it's pretty good in its own right.

The "fact" is it's less healthy than a regular whopper. If you wanna argue that's invalidated by 30 calories go ahead, but that doesn't change everything else. You're acting like a climate change denier that argues science is wrong because one estimate was off by a fraction of a degree.

In spite of many limitations in conducting well-designed human studies, information gathered from already published ones combined with the large number of animal studies already available, clearly demonstrate that phytoestrogens have the ability to influence the reproductive performance of an adult.

No strong evidence associates high phytoestrogen intake with fertility problems in humans.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16005180
Among 425 papers we reviewed 81 publications with appropriate information. With the possible exception of testicular cancer there is no strong epidemiological evidence to indicate that prenatal exposure to estrogen are linked to disturbed development of the male reproductive organs.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919579
as a result of the paucity of human studies and as numerous reports did not reveal any adverse effects on male reproductive physiology.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21941185
There are some reports indicating negative association between exposure to certain chemicals and sperm parameters such evidence has not been found for phytoestrogens.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19524224
The results of this meta-analysis suggest that neither soy foods nor isoflavone supplements alter measures of bioavailable T concentrations in men.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11352776
The present study determines the effects of a short-term phytoestrogen supplement on semen quality and serum sex steroid and gonadotrophin levels in human males. Healthy volunteers took a supplement containing 40 mg of isoflavones daily for 2 months and donated blood and semen samples monthly for 2 months before and 4 months after supplementation. Semen samples were analysed for ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility and morphology. Blood samples were analysed for sex hormone and gonadotrophin levels and phytoestrogen concentrations, and testicular volume was measured using an orchidometer. The phytoestrogen supplement increased plasma genistein and daidzein concentrations to approx. 1 microM and 0.5 microM respectively; yet, there was no observable effect on endocrine measurements, testicular volume or semen parameters over the study period. This is the first study to examine the effects of a phytoestrogen supplement on reproductive health in males. We conclude that the phytoestrogen dose consumed had no effect on semen quality.

Phytoestrogens are bad estrogens when in surplus and can actually convert men's testosterone into estrogen. Fermented soy products have no phytoestrogens and are safer than non-fermented, which is found in basically any commercial product you can think of... candy, chips, breads, frozen dinners, and prepared foods.

Not to mention the levels of glyphosate from the GMO crops that can accumulate and wreak havoc and cause all sorts of cancers.
Do you have proof of either of these?

TIL that xenoestrogens in plastics and other common household items doesn't actually lead to hormonal issues in both sexes and increased rates of breast cancer in women because "it's not mammalian estrogen."

The more you know. If something isn't completely biologically identical in every possible way, it's totally inert in the human body I guess.

The23rdMagus posted...
Do you have proof of either of these?

Yes there's plenty of evidence.

Lecithins are common additives in processed foods that are commercially available everywhere in the world. They act as emulsifiers to bind ingredients together to make smooth textures, homogenized liquids, and can aid with preserving foods for longer periods of time. Soy lecithin is one of the most popular lecithins because of how stupidly cheap and easy it is to mass produce soy at an industrial scale, along with corn (and the dreaded maltodextrin ingredient in many other foods), as well as wheat and potatoes. The thing with soy in particular though is that, while it does have an excellent nutritional profile that contains many micronutrients and a complete amino acid profile, the unfermented form has negative affects on hormone imbalances and nutrient depletion via phytic acid. Phytic acid will bind important dietary micronutrients like calcium, iron, and zinc, which renders them useless. Soy has been used for thousands of years by Asian cultures, but they learned that fermenting the soy into things like miso, tofu and fermented beverages will keep the nutritional profile in tact while eliminating the threat of any phytoestrogens and nutrient depletion via phytic acid. In short, both men and women should generally avoid consuming too many unfermented soy products, or products that contain soy-based ingredients such as lecitihins or protein isolates. If you are going to consume soy, it's best to get a fermented food of it.

The effects of soy and whey protein supplementation on acute hormonal reponses to resistance exercise in men:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24015701

Prepubertal subchronic exposure to soy milk and glyphosate leads to endocrine disruption:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28017703

Assessing the impact of exposure to permitted emulsifiers on bowel and metabolic health:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31866761

Glyphosate is one of the most popular herbicides on the planet, usually by the name RoundUp, and is used on the majority of GMO crops in the world's food production, mostly the following crops: corn, soy, wheat, potatoes, canola, sugar beet and alfalfa. Glyphosate is a toxic chemical that can still seep into the food products and become ingested long after they are sprayed down and harvested, and federal regulations allow the chemicals to be present in food products up to a certain threshold and still be deemed "safe for use". The chemicals when accumulated over time can cause all sorts of issues with microbateria in the gut biome, cancers and brain disorders. The issue with GMO foods isn't the fact that they are "unnatural" or manmade, but the risk they pose with the chemicals they are sprayed with numerous times and everpresent in the world's food supply. Anything from bread, cereals, pastas, chips, cookies, and many other prepared foods, all contain GMO crops or their byproducts, such as maltodextrin made from corn (more glycemic than sugar) and soy protein isolate (found in many frozen dinners and protein powders).

Public health and evidence-informed policy-making: The case of a commonly used herbicide:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31486846/

A glyphosate-based herbicide induces sub-lethal effects in early life stages and liver cell line of rainbow trout
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31525644/

Bottom line is, most people don't realize the damage they are doing to themselves over time by eating certain foods. It's not as cut-dry as quitting soda or picking carrots over potato chips, you have to actively read labels and understand ingredients, their sources and their effects on your body.
