It's a terrible idea. The game has a significant child demographic, and I'm gonna bet there's enough users who've lied about their age on their profiles to the point that they'd be able to gain access to the dating site of things.

Even if this was handled with the utmost security and ethicality, the high population of children on Roblox makes this proposition just really fucking weird and inherently tainted. You don't shit where you eat, you don't mix business with pleasure, you don't set up a childcare centre next to a garbage dump. You don't integrate the functionality of a dating website with a platform that ostensibly exists for kids to play video games with each other.

I think people overcompensate for Makoto's popularity. Comments like #2 just come off as strangely defensive?

It's been too long since I played P5, but I romanced Takemi and Makoto in my playthroughs. Ohya is kind of my type as far as women go, but I did think her social link was a slog. The fortune teller lady kinda bugged me too. I see Futaba as more of a little sister analogue so I choose not to romance her, though I really like her Dorito gremlin characterisation, Haru is kind of a victim of the game's pacing so I'm not super interested in her character, and Ann is a fine character as one of your pals but I'm not really interested in her route either.

Everyone else is just kinda ehh.

TBH there was a really long stretch of games, between 4 and Armageddon where the games were very stiff and clunky. While some games had good enough qualities to make them playable like the Deception Konquest mode, overall they were kind of crap compared to other competitors. Things started to change after the first injustice game and now they're great and honestly the art and animation in MK1 is some of the best shit I've ever seen in a video game.
Oh absolutely. I actually had a bias against MK before 9 got unbanned in Australia and a friend bought it.

There have been some dogshit Mortal Kombat games, but imo the Netherrealm Studios games from 9 to 11 are very well developed games - sans the stupid triple-A microtransaction shit they started putting in.

Temu comes across as Wish with an even more aggressive advertising budget. It came out of nowhere and blasted all my shit with ads, and I'm explicitly avoiding it because it feels extremely off and I don't trust it.

I remember back when NFTs were getting big, they were basically announced just before the Oscars gave attendees a Chadwick Boseman NFT in their goodie bags. From there, you saw dozens of publications going "NFTs, why are they so cool?" and a fuckton of press for stupid dogshit like the Bored Ape NFTs and whatever the recent flavour of the month was. But the backlash was always there, and people complained all throughout the first couple months of every hack publication making NFTs out as some tech revolution.

I see Temu the same way. I see an out-of-touch news story about a business model that's not only been done before, but has gotten popular and competed with Amazon insofar as it was exclusively offering consumer goods directly from Chinese warehouses that also use Amazon as an additional middleman. I'm seeing AliExpress and Wish all over again, and the "hype" I'm seeing stems from their blanket ads on every mobile app I own. I don't see a "rise", I see an aggressive marketing push backed by fuck-off amounts of money. It's fake.

The Switch was first revealed by Nintendo in October 2016 for a March 2017 release date, giving them a leeway of five months.

Current rumors and leaks are saying the console launch is currently looking to be around Winter 2024. That would place an annoucement around January or February - or shit, maybe they'll go for a Switch 2 announcement on the 7 year anniversary of the Switch's launch.

I think announcing it after the 2023 Holiday season is probably what they're aiming for, so that the Switch gets one last big holiday season to itself before they transition to the new hardware.

Never heard of them.
You can get the gist of Abzu by checking out its page on any storefront. Check the screenshots out.

For the King is like a tabletop RPG. You control up to three characters who you name and design yourself, give them classes and then put them in a basic little DnD-style adventure. You move across a hexagonal grid, fighting monsters and encountering random events, until you either run out of lives in the ramping difficulty of the game or until you beat the final boss.

Each game of For the King is a standalone adventure from beginning to end. As you play you get Lore points, which is a currency to buy more character classes, more customisation options and more random events for you to run into on the overworld. It's couch co-op, so you can play with up to three friends, and it also has an online mode.

If you like RPGs with a lot of gameplay depth, replayability and intense personal stakes, For the King is fantastic. It looks ugly as sin and runs at 30fps, but it's just outright one of my favorite RPGs of the last ten years.

People have been criticizing his work ever since he became a huge pothead anyway, I'd argue that's a more critical aspect of his life that affected his work. He made that terrible Yoga Hosers movie before the heart attack, and his work starting from Tusk is where things really seemed to start shifting for him.

Anyway to respond to TC, Kevin Smith had a treatment for Clerks III that was going to be his last movie, but one of the core actors didn't want to be in it and Smith needed everyone to be on the same page. That treatment was originally going to be put out as a comic book instead, but then the heart attack happened and he decided to scrap it in favour of a new one.

Opinions on Clerks III seem to be mixed, with a lot more of his personal life and a sort of reflection on his own legacy going into the movie as opposed to silly catchphrases, nerdy diatribes and stupid over the top humour. But that's just what I've heard.

The best part is that since these characters and stories are in the public domain, anyone - you and me included - can do whatever we want to them.

There's absolutely a bunch of cheap cash-in trash being made to capitalise on it, and it's shitty and annoying. But if you have enough of a passion for the property, you could write a book, film a TV show or movie or make a video game about it and monetize it.

The first wave of public domain media - at least in the cheap, commercialised world we live in - tends to be exploitative garbage like this. But the potential to make something new and beloved with the property is limitless, and that's what I like about the public domain.

It usually takes a nuclear fuckstorm to see anything change or get overturned. One time, enough users @'d Sballen about a user who openly peddled antisemitic conspiracy theories, undercut the Holocaust and I think might have dropped a couple slurs, but who only got a suspension. We're talking multiple threads of users @-ing the dude and saying their piece, initially to a lot of backlash, until the dude caved and banned the user.

That course of action, of course, isn't viable outside of the most extreme of circumstances, where the mods have clearly fucked up and enough people are genuinely incensed by it to push for action. Whatever issue you have probably isn't going to be resolved, and the most you can do is talk about it and hope enough people commiserate with you.

We used to have a moderation appeal system, but after an overhaul that gave us the option to report posts for trolling, the ability to appeal moderations was removed.

Did the Fantastic Beast films flop because Twitter is pissed off at Rowling, or because they suck?
First one was fine, best part of it was the guy playing Doctor Who-lite. It had original characters who were likeable enough, and their little personal adventure was fine. It was as enjoyable and innocuous as a new story set in that universe could be - a former friend was really big on it, and I saw it years later before the second one came out because he wanted to re-watch it.

The main issue it had was that on top of this character-focused romp through NYC collecting wayward magical beasts, there's this secondary plot about this criminal and who he is and what he's doing, and that character was - and I'm saying this because the second movie is named after him and the franchise's conflict was centred around him from that point on - Grindelwald. I'm more of a fan of self-contained character-focused movies like the other part of this first movie, so I don't give a fuck about the blatant hook for the Wizarding World cinematic universe y'know.

So then my friend wants to see the sequel at the movies, I think we're taking a daytrip to Canberra. He used to call all the shots, so I was roped into it.

They still have the little squad of likeable characters from the first movie, Doctor Who-lite and his companions. But like 80% of the movie is about Grindelwald, and DWL & co. have next to no relevance to that broader conspiracy. Their scenes feel like padding, and their role in the movie feels completely tacked on.

It's like if they made Iron Man, and then when they made The Incredible Hulk, half of the movie was about Tony Stark having a misadventure in the Amazon rainforest while looking for Bruce Banner until their paths cross at the end. The goofy characters from the first movie feel completely tacked on because instead of making their own Grindelwald movie, they made it a sequel to Fantastic Beasts for the sake of brand recognition and gave them nothing to do except make one of them a Grindelwald follower and fascist almost out of nowhere for the sake of forced conflict.

I found Rowling's transphobe shit abhorrent at the time of the first Fantastic Beasts movie, and when my friend sat me down to watch it years later, I could concede that it was mostly a decent watch. It tried too hard to force the Grindelwald issue when its strength was in Newt Scamander's traipse through NYC with his newfound friends, but the part of the movie that was about Newt Scamander was fine.

The issue was that they went all in on that Grindelwald prequel saga, but they gave ill-fitting roles to the cast of that first, mostly unrelated movie as a cheap way of justifying the second movie's status as a sequel . The second movie isn't even about monsters or Newt Scamander's appreciation of them, he's basically a bumbling secret agent with relationship issues. It sucks.

And even if it was its own standalone thing without the cast of the first one outside of the Grindelwald plot, the plot is sluggish and cryptic until it builds to a handful of heavy-handed twists that just serves to scream "this ain't your daddy's Harry Potter!" and hook in the moviegoing cast who still do the house quizzes on Pottermore to this day. It's a grim, bland slog that panders to the cheap seats in the vain hope of justifying another sequel.

Then either there was a third movie that came out, did absolutely dogshit with critics and at the box office and died a dog's death, or Universal decided to put it out of its misery amidst a media landscape that was already savaging it based on the bland and uninteresting previews. I genuinely don't remember, because by that point I was in a weird place with my friend who liked the movies and I wouldn't have watched the third one even if he bought me the movie ticket and a bottle of gin to drink in the theatre.

But man, that second movie was a slow, plodding, pandering slog of a movie. They even did the "passive-progressive" scene where they hint at Dumbledore being a gay man, but making it such a disjointed non-sequitur so that they could cut it out for conservative markets like China and Russia. What a load of shit.

The first movie was a fine standalone adventure, and if you were open to the whole Harry Potter witches and wizards thing, it's genuinely a fine enough movie when it's about Eddie Redmayne's character and his unlikely new friends. But it had to do the same shit everyone else was doing, so it half-assed a cinematic universe, promised a prequel saga about a well-known franchise villain who'd already died before the original movies came out, burdened that first movie with the Grit and Spies and Intrigue part of the movie as a backdoor for their new franchise, and then burdened the Grit and Spies and Intrigue movie with the Silly Power of Hope and Love and Friendship brigade who spend the movie having the hope and love and friendship getting sucked out of them by a cryptic, plodding and lazy story.

According to the page:

The program includes manual labor tasks and the study of L. Ron Hubbard's works. The rehabilitation program may take more than a year to complete, and the Church has been accused of overworking and mistreating its participants. Critics have characterized the RPF as a forced labor and re-indoctrination program comparable to the Soviet gulag system.

And that's on top of "the Hole", a prison where Scientologists have been held for years at a time:

Also, I think it's Human Centipede 3 - the one they shot in black and white - that had a woman giving birth to a premature baby in the driver's seat of a car, and in order to escape the horrible rape facility she's been locked in she slams her foot into her child's head because it landed on the accelerator.

Typing that topic title out had me thinking about why that may be the case if what I'm suggesting is even true. Like my intent was initially to shit on people's sense of taste and ham it up for the sake of a topic, like how some people become the most obnoxious douchebags about pineapple on pizza or coffee vs tea, but I'm honestly kind of interested about the general consensus CE has on different foods.

So here's an actual picky eater's test for people to fill out:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/3/7/AAbh80AAE0_l.jpg

And as a show of good faith, I'll talk about the ones I wouldn't eat and the ones I would eat, but don't particularly like.

I wouldn't eat snails or raw fish. I don't like spinach, zucchini or mushrooms, though I will eat them, and if I'm having oysters I like them to be cooked first. So the least charitable score I could give myself is 6/30.

The initial hypothesis I had was that poverty and food additives have left a significant portion of American forumgoers with a diminished sense of taste or an unwillingness to leave their comfort zone. Like it's crazy to me that there are people who not only don't like calamari, but who find the thought of eating it gross and creepy. I live in a more coastal country where seafood is relatively abundant, and there's a lot of landlocked places in America where seafood is fairly uncommon I guess.

But on top of location, I feel like there could be an argument to be made for lack of availability due to cost. Like yeah people don't have a taste for olives, all they grew up on was bland, overprocessed oven food because that's all their parents could afford. Of course you're not gonna develop a taste for olives if you're spending every day eating that shitty frozen lasagna with the tasteless white cheese sauce on the top, what the fuck is an olive? That's not meant to be a joke - it's that thought that had me approaching this topic from a different angle.

I'm also thinking about high fructose corn syrup and the barfy chemical that American chocolate has, and the waxy candy like candy corn and shit. Like the more I actually think about it, the more I realise that this might actually be answerable?

I'm gonna keep the provocative title, but having actually thought about what I'm asking here, there's a bunch of legitimate reasons as to why your average American poster - CE or otherwise - would have some odd or bland takes on food.

fwiw, I grew up poor but my nan and pop kept a lot of chilis, olives, salami, sauerkraut and pickled herring around. I've been eating those really rich flavours for my entire life, though that thing about the tasteless white cheese on storebought lasagna is a personal experience of mine.
