2 was my favorite. 3 was objectively a better game, but the bosses just seemed ridiculous and most of the levels were just re-hashes. 1 should probably be my favorite since it was the only one I owned, but 2 was just a masterpiece.

Although 1 is one of only 2 NES games I owned as a kid that I could never beat (not without a game gene at least). Closest I ever got was the final hallway before the last battle. They just throw so much shit at you it is near impossible to get through that without dying, let alone having enough life left to fight the boss at the end.

I am one of the odd people who actually like the "bad" final fantasy games (2, 8, and to a lesser extent 10. Not 13, never 13). Most of the "good" ones I can't stand with the exception of 1 and the second half of 6. Never touched the MMOs.

Personally I like the games that experiment a bit and aren't afraid to have mechanics that essentially "break" the game. 2 I like because it is essentially SaGa 0, and SaGa is my favorite JRPG series. 8 is my favorite because I LOVE junctioning and basically making super overpowered characters. Plus in the late game you can do away with junctioning entirely if you spend time playing triple triad and farming stat items. 10 I liked because it did away with ATB (which I HATE) in favor of a more traditional turn-based system.

you can't throw those characters at people without much context and expect them to know what the series is

they were introduced to marth and roy they had no idea what fire emblem even played like and even after melee they still had no idea who these boys were

they just saw them as cool sword men and that's about it

Fire Emblem didn't Get noticed they did the fact they were in this fire emblem series that nobody outside japan knew of didn't come across anyone's mind

The Internet was a thing back in 2001, people knew what Fire Emblem was. Hell, one of my first experiences on-line was finding out about Final Fantasy II, III, and V back in 98 and I was WAY late to the party. Everyone one knew about the games and probably played a translated ROM by then. Even so, V never got released in the states for another year and a half.

Hell, I wasn't even a fan of Nintendo between the SNES and when I played Smash in 2002 and the first thing I said when I saw Marth and Roy was :"Oh cool, they have Fire Emblem characters in Smash!" Trust me, from someone who was a teenager in the late 90's/early 00's, people knew.

It would have been Joker for me, but the silver age stuff and giving him an origin story killed any interest I had in him. He was much more interesting as a serial killer who had no motivation other then trying to be as chaotic as possible. I mean recently they have tried to bring him back to that but the Joker from my childhood still had that "zany" stigma to him and it is too little too late.

I guess Two Face, I never thought he had a horrible story-line. I even think his character was the best part of Batman Forever (well, other then "Holy Rusted Metal Batman!", that part made me laugh).

Apple is going to go the way of so many other companies and switching to a subscription service. Music is now going to be a subscription service.

I recommend locating the mp3 files within your computer and moving them to an external hard drive if you want to keep the music you rightfully paid for.

To be fair, subscription services for music isn't nearly as bad as for something like, say, video games or movies.

Most subscription services have millions upon millions of songs available at the click of a button. Sure, I have about 300GB of songs on MP3s and space is cheep, but it is much more convenient to tell my subscription service to play "Devil Went Down To Georgia Radio" then go buy a bunch of related songs I will only listen to once because I am in the mood for some fiddle music.

Any woman worth keeping would not be a bitch about a stupid card or a $400 worth of crap. But would appreciate what you got and maybe say in a nice way "I'd rather just have a card next time" instead of being a bitch because he actually tried to do something.

There is "being a bitch" and then there is realizing that the person you are in a relationship with has no idea what you would like as a gift. For example, say you live in a small apartment in the middle of a major city. Your girlfriend buys you this for your birthday:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-TimeCutter-HD-with-MyRIDE-60-in-Fab-24-5-HP-V-Twin-Gas-Zero-Turn-Riding-Mower-with-Smart-Speed-75213/300949915

It is an expensive gift, sure, but is it something you need or even want? No, and you would be rightfully pissed that she clearly has no idea what you want or need. At that point, depending on how long your have been going together you should probably be questioning if you should be with this person in the first place.

You think this is a valid argument? I mean, your girlfriend has to be completely fucking stupid to think that's a valid gift in the completely worthless scenario you put forth.

With the argument you were trying to have? Absolutely. In the original intent of the post you quoted? Not necessarily, but that wasn't the argument you wanted to have.

My original point was that in a meaningful relationship you don't have to spend tons of money on a person to let them know they are loved, and they shouldn't want that. You are the one who brought it to "well, clearly if the person you are dating has no idea what you like you shouldn't care and be happy they are spending tons of money." So my argument was "no, you shouldn't" and I gave an extreme scenario to explain that point. Now if you want refute my original point more succinctly then go ahead, but you were the one who wanted to go down "useless expensive gift" boulevard.

FFXV is probably worth $20, as long as you don't go in expecting a full fledged JRPG and instead expect something like a FF version of Skyrim.

Shadow of Mordor is good as well, but I have seen it for cheaper. Unless you mean Shadow of War, but I can't speak to that one.

I would wait for something cheaper for Vesperia & X/X-2, but Red Dead Redemption 2 is totally worth it.

The fake accusers have since disappeared like they never existed. Why aren't they taking the matter further? A class action suit would work well for this kind of issue.

That is barely proof (if at all).

Civil suits aren't going to start until criminal investigations are done, and the public isn't going to know about criminal investigations until charges are brought forward or dismissed by law enforcement agencies (which can take months to happen). I am not saying Heidi is completely clean either, if she was found to be involved in the soliciting of minors then charges could be brought against her as well.

Either way, we aren't going to know anything for quite a while.

It's funny. People who work for tips blame the tipper. How about blaming your company that you work for, for not paying you.Yes there are a handful of jobs you can get good tips at but most of them are a waste of time. You should get paid at least minimum wage and a tip should be extra, not your actual pay.

I hate the fact that tip jobs even exist. PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES!!!!

You do realize that if a delivery/server doesn't make at least minimum wage with their tips they are required by law to be payed the difference? Or the fact that the whole tipping culture exists because "eating out" is less of a thing in the US and Canada so if the restaurant food prices were raised to the level where tips weren't needed it would pretty much cause the whole industry to implode? Not to mention the fact that workers should indeed blame the tipper because if tips didn't exist they would be paying the same or more for their food anyways.

The issue is a lot more complicated then "I don't have to tip here, why should I tip there?" When it comes down to it tipping is less about "pay your workers decently" and more about "keeping the restaurant industry afloat".

I remember reading about a restaurant that increased the price of food, but also payed it's employees a decent price. I think it's doing ok. I also heard something else about why we still have tips...

I am not saying it is impossible, but when you have 60% of restaurants dying within the first year and 80% dying within the first 5, the industry is already pretty fragile. Adding another factor is only going to make it worse.

My job is mostly about inventing tools to make it easier...

One thing I do miss is the laptop at my old job had a docking station, so I could just dock my laptop to use it like a desktop at my desk. Now I have a USB hub, which while I understand why they use it I would love to have the convenience of a dock because the hubs are so finicky. Some times it doesn't want to work, or recognize things, etc. The dock just handled everything perfectly because it had it's own set of dedicated graphic hardware, meaning the laptop was essentially just used for the CPU and hard drive.

So I guess if I had to invent something, it would be a cheap wireless dock to replace my USB hub. That way I get the benefits of the USB hub (cheaper and more universal then a dock) but with the convenience I got with the dock.

For example, even though I am mostly into heavy metal, punk, and a little bit of 90's rock, I also like swing music.

I think the main reason is I was a clarinet player in high school, and outside of orchestra it is the last genre of music where it used to be featured prominently. I always wanted to be in jazz band but they never had any clarinet arrangements and I was forced to play sax instead. Closest I ever got to playing a real swing song was when my school marching band played "Sing Sing Sing" as part of it's set for a season, but it didn't even have the solo sections, just the main part.

It seems odd because no one in my family or circle of friends was into it (closest was my grandfather, but he preferred more typical jazz music), it was just something I was into. My favorite artists in the genre are definitely Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Louis Jordan. I also like the more modern revival bands like Cherry Poppin' Daddies and The Brian Setzer Orchestra.

So yea, what are some odd musical tastes you have that seem completely out of left field?

You should definitely check out the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I think they're 100 times better than the "you can beat me but you'll never beat me" Daddies though I agree Setzer is pretty cool. They can play for real and have very interesting / non-generic compositions.

Oh yea, I love the Zippers, that is actually what I meant when I said Cherry Poppin' Daddies. For some reason I always get their names mixed up although if I heard them side by side I certainly like the Zippers more. The Daddies are more of a Ska band that have some Swing-like songs.

For myself I'm huge into prog like Rush and Dream Theater but also love Primus, Nomeansno, Midnight Oil, Prince, The Fixx..... and Shonen Knife hah. In the 80s I listened to a lot of Public Enemy and somehow got into Slayer for a while too (had Seasons in the Abyss in the rotation for a long-ass time)

If you like (or have liked) Slayer, you might like Sodom. Their earlier stuff is more Death Metal, but the later albums are like Slayer, but better IMO.

I got to meet Peter Laird before he became famous when he was running a comic shop in the basement of a store on Main Street in Northampton, MA. He had the talent of Frank Frazetta in the way he drew. Spent a lot of my free time talking comics and art with him over a couple of years. Later after he moved to Vermont, I got to know Kevin Eastman when they had moved in together and were selling comics and their art out of a house they co-owned. Very fun times in my youth.

My preference is the 1987 and the 2012 versions, the 2003 series wasn't terrible, but the latest one is just downright trash.

That's awesome dude, I'm a big fan of the original Mirage comics. I loved the 2003 series, it had real tension by sticking to the comics but being just original enough I couldn't call the twists, and the animation was gorgeous for a Saturday morning cartoon

If you haven't read it yet, the new IDW comic is actually really good. It is a retelling of the original run but with more of a focus and expanded on story line (and they changed just enough that it doesn't feel like a rehash). I know Kevin Eastman was involved with it early on and even draws some of the variant covers. They just started their version of the "City at War" story (which has a similar premise to the original Mirage one, but is also its own thing).

So yea, what are some odd musical tastes you have that seem completely out of left field?

you have to get moderated with karma loss like three times before you get warned, btw, unless it was something really egregious

They did away with karma loss for everything except warnings and suspensions a long time ago...

are nudes edited to remove nudity allowed to be posted? I can't remember... I know we had that Tim Allen phase, but I don't remember if that was allowed or not

I wouldn't mod for it, but I am also new so better to ask for a consensus. If anything it wouldn't be more then an NKL.

I just don't wanna get banned for posting his nude except with no weiner in it so you can see how much of a creep it is just from the pose, lol

either way... too risky!

In that case, I wouldn't. Sexualized poses can be moded.

Regardless of who is right and wrong, I respect him for at least taking the high road and keeping personal stuff to himself. Says a lot in the age of e-drama.
