its that time again for us to post for a couple weeks and then stop. and what better time to do that than when the gyms are closed

what are you all doing to maintain, or with some dark arts, increase gains during COVID?

I have a pretty lame but doable home gym set up. ive got a 20lb barbell with enough 10s 5s, 2.5s, and a stepchild set of 3lb plates to get up to 196lbs at the moment. this lets me do some normal stuff like overhead press, front squats, etc by cleaning as i dont have a rack. i can also do a decent incline bench by leaning at an angle onto my couch, but man is that a bitch to get in position when no one is around. i have a piano bench that im using for dumbell bench, but the highest dumbell i have is 80lbs

Overall i can still do a lot of exercises that i would normally do. Deadlift will certainly drop, as will the back squat. Bench will take a little hit too. But i did get back to 135x10 on the overhead press which i am quite proud of!

Also i am very excited to do pullups in the gym again as i am currently doing them with the top of a boxing bag rig which means basically im "gripping" a thick and smooth cylinder. The most ive been able to do is 8 on it, its an absolute bitch. Hoping it will make normal pullups easier with the ability to actually grip the bar

I've been doing this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc1E5CfRfos

It sucks and I hate it, so that's how I know it's worth it. I'm adding time slowly. At this point I'm doing 45 seconds per exercise for Round 1, then 40 for Round 2 and 35 for Round 3. Trying to do a 1 minute per exercise for 3 rounds is fucking insane and definitely has to be built towards.

this is arguably the worst part of the pandemic for me since i don't have a home gym. 335 bench gonna go to absolute shit by the time i'm back

Any place you can arrange to do some dips? I was able to move some table and counter tops to make it happen. Weighted pushups are also now a thing for me.

I dont even want to think about mine lol. Ive tried all kinds of variations. One handed. Pause. Super high rep. Deficit. But at the end of the day 196 is 196 and without the big weights its gonna slide

605 is awesome man, congrats

I have a a set of dumbells I've been doing various exercies with. But overall, less weightlighting, more cardio with the gym closed.

I just got a pull up bar for my place so I'm excited to try that out.

No, I've got one like this that I only put on the door frame when I need it:
https://www.target.com/p/pure-fitness-multi-purpose-doorway-pull-up-bar-ages-13/-/A-15064425

I don't have that exact one but I've used mine for weeks now with no issues.

I have a good spot in my entry way where it's out of the way and can be easily taken down. It's one that twists to lock in place and pushes against the walls (you need strong walls). We'll see how it goes when it arrives.

I do free standing squats, push ups, and sit ups while waiting for my dinner to cook usually. Haven't been out for a run or even a long walk in a realllllyyy long time. Feels bad.

Really want to get some kind of weight bench for the home because I don't see myself ever going to a public gym again. At least not anytime soon. And it'd be so much more convenient if I had a squat rack at home.

Basically my body is already starting to betray me and with each passing year I suck more and more at staying fit.

Jealous man! What are you lifting these days? Home lifting is a bit therapeutic. I miss my gym friends and not to be a douche but the attention as well. But this is just nice to be alone with my thoughts and lifts

I'm not doing any lifting. All I have at home are a pair of dumbbells and, like, okay, I guess I can lie on an ottoman and press them, but there's just not much incentive when I've got no variety. I've also simply never been able to motivate myself to work out at home.

My only exercise has come in the form of running, and I'm lucky if I do that twice a week.

well my best friend is a power lifter and he's over using my stuff about half the time so I'm not always alone, but I gotta tell ya it's nice to blast some Final Fantasy music on my speaker in my garage and be the only one jamming out to it in between sets.

I had a long injury layoff this winter so I'm still working myself back to normal. I'm doing squats today, gonna see if I can hit 225x3

I have bought a few things from people (plates, adjustable dumbbells). People need money and people want fitness gear for at home stuff, so there is a good market for that kinda stuff at the moment

i love how gouged everything is due to covid 19 obviously. I have 185 lbs to work with at my home gym, went onto craigslist after the lol ebay. Got 2 45lbs plates for $150 which isnt bad considering whats going on right now, so now I can do most of my old bench workout for now 275 to work with. Squats and deads gonna a have to be just pure till failure each time oh well.

But ya ebay prices right now are lol. 45 lb plate should be 45 to 50 dollars. They are around 200 for 1 plate and sometimes they add the 100 dollar shipping in the smaller portion of the auction to try and fool you. The non shipping price is already a joke,

God speed to you guys who still have the drive (and the tendon/joint strength) to continue pumping iron. I haven't lifted heavy in nearly two years, instead opting for body weight resistance like pull-ups/push-ups and cardio. I've probably lost a quarter of my strength when I weighed about 215 back then, but I'm 30 pounds lighter and so much healthier.

I'll still follow this topic, though. Maybe I'll let you guys know if I can ever hit 25 decent form pull-ups.

i'm doing pushups occasionally now, but i'm way lazier doing like a set of 30 pushups (and not getting a very good workout) than i am doing like 5 heavy bench presses...

damn Sess you put in WORK.

I need to get back to writing down what I do, coz I didn't really keep any sort of track yesterday. I did a ton of Squats. Probably like 8 or 9 sets. Then I did RDLs for 6 or 7 sets. Farmer's Walks up and down my drive way. I did Hamstring curls by putting a resistance band onto my barbell and moving my bench back, hooking my legs into the band for probably 5 or 6 sets.

I basically just go until I feel tired.

We tried today thats for sure. Btw i have no idea why i listed the total db weight for the bench and the individual for the incline. My ass aint pressing 260+ these days

I ignored the db ohp as i always do because i think its a great idea at the time but then i get to the end of my workout and fuck that

Extha got that squat butt all the girls like. Your posts reminds me that i need to do more farmer walks. The hamstring thing also sounds like a good idea it i am picturing it right

One that will definitely rock you

Lay flat on your stomach, have the dumbbells at your shoulders amd press them parallel to the ground as if you were doing a shoulder press. Sounds easy. Itll kill you unless you got some crazy good strength

Rocked the workout, not that it was anything crazy

More importantly made an impromptu stop at the local used sporting goods store and found 2 25lb plates for my bar which have been completely out of stock since the pandemic. I can now get to 246 on the bar!
