For context this video is clips of Reagan's administration answering questions about AIDS. They never took it seriously and Reagan didn't even deign to acknowledge HIV/AIDS for literal years. They're just laughing about it and making gay jokes the whole time. You can also hear the press yukking it up. Only one journalist was asking serious questions about it, the rest were just making gay jokes. It shows how messed up American culture was and how even the president of America embraced homophobia to the point of allowing a horribly painful disease to run rampant, the president is supposed to rise above that. He had no regard for their lives. Reagan would absolutely have taken it seriously if it had spread more among straight people. But because it mainly struck a beleaguered population, one that he personally didn't like, he decided to let them die while his administration joked with the press about the dying gays.

Also keep in mind that in the 80s, over 90% of the people who got AIDS died. Painfully. Still, nothing from Reagan, and nothing but jokes from his staff. He knew this was a deadly disease--but because he didn't like gay people, he didn't want to help. And he knew that America was homophobic enough for him to get away with it. And nowadays republicans idolize reagan.

Trump's administration is incompetent and accidentally complicit with but it's not treating victims of COVID with the utter disdain Reagan showed toward AIDS victims.

They're both bad but Reagan's ineptitude and stupidity were so deeply ingrained in festering homophobia and bigotry that it pushes him worse. Trump's failures are the result of his stupidity and pride, while Reagan's were because he and his administration refused to budge on his homophobia. And even took glee in seeing gay people suffer from it.

I go to a gold's gym in texas.

when they reopened, only ~20% of people were wearing masks, and about half of people were spraying equipment. One of my gym "friends" even mocked me for wearing a mask and maintaining distance from him.

Now they say masks are mandatory at all times. But they don't enforce it. Now about 80% of the people at my gym keep a mask on at all times. The others either don't wear their mask or they leave their nose uncovered.

I don't trust the spray bottles they leave around the gym, and it's not convenient to go and find one each time, so I just carry my own disinfecdtant spray

I don't have any trouble exercising with a mask on unless I do an exercise that makes me breathe heavily, like weighted lunges or generally any intense leg exercise. I never do cardio at the gym because I find it boring. I prefer to run outdoors

People in japan are great about keeping them in proper order.

IMO there should be a mandatory class you take in your first year of high school (replacing an elective) that teaches you practical things. Including proper waste disposal, including things like what kinds of plastics can be recycled and how.

Recycling policies also differ depending on the city, but 99.9% of people aren't aware of how to recycle properly and their city's policies. If this information were more clearly available, or if it were taught in schools, I think Americans would be way better at it.

IMO modern american consumerism was largely formed by changing the way people advertised products/services, thanks to people like Edward Bernays starting around the 1930s. That was when they started shifting advertisements from purely "buy this because [benefits of the product]", and instead it became more psychological. Like how they managed to convince people that the type of car you own says something about your manhood.

Every time I've gotten sick before, my throat wasn't actually SORE unless I coughed so hard and so often that I tore it up.

Usually getting sick just means an uncomfortable throat. Potentially very uncomfortable but not actually painful.

This time though, my throat gets these throngs of pain that last a few seconds. You know the feeling when you try to swallow a huge chunk of food, and it is struggling to fit down your throat, and you can feel it basically scraping slowly down your esophagus? That's very much how the throat pains feel to me now. Is this what people talk about when they say they have a sore throat? Because this is the first time I've experienced this and I don't like it

My coworker's mom kicked him out when he turned 18 because he's gay, he was homeless for a while and even 5 years later she still can't accept it. He showed me a text she sent him the other day saying she knows he'll get a wife one day. His reply to her was hard to read, saying he'd change himself if he could and he was sorry and he can get a surrogate baby since she wants grandkids and he still loves her

And I'm like, just cut the cord already. She's had five years to come to her senses and is still a moron. I know you want to have a good relationship with her but it isn't going to happen, don't let her continue to hold you back, just let it go. You're family if you act like family.
