It's the best menu IMO, but it could use some themes and alternate ways of organizing your games. I love how simple and quick it is. Overall it's much better than 3DS or Wii U menus

100% false.

Why do you think they had Maz talking to Chewie like..."She knows she has to use all the strength she has left to reach her son."

That was literally the movie telling us through her that Leia's effort to call out to Ben was going to kill her. She was dying when he heard her message. That's why he stopped in the first place.
I don't remember that line but ok. I would honestly prefer it if Rey's action caused her death because it's more tragic and it would highlight the double-edged nature of such violence

The movie doesn't spell out exactly what happened but it was clearly a result of Rey stabbing ren. If Rey hadn't stabbed him then Leia wouldn't have died. Thematically it makes sense because it shows how embracing violence to quell Ren leads to cruel ironic tragedy. Ren at this point is still very conflicted and can still be good, so it makes sense that killing him would not necessarily be the best thing. So it's no surprise that when Rey tries to do something a bit dark, it backfires and hurts somebody innocent (Leia). Rey stared into the abyss and the abyss stared back. It also ties into her story arc of coming close to the dark side.

Those are the important parts of that scene. The "hows" are honestly insignificant. (Did Leia control Ren, inhabit his body, or just telepathically distract him? It doesn't really matter.) What matters is that she intervened somehow and got caught in the fray when Rey decided it would be good to stab Ren.
