Gyms aren't bad now at all. Everyone walks around sanitizing their stuff, stand very far from each other, and get sanitized and temper-checked upon entering. It also keeps you healthy. The group classes are suspect though...especially spin class.

My gyms been chill. Not overcrowded and they have wiping stations everywhere with sanitizer. You arent allowed to use the drinking fountain, and only have to wear your mask upon entrance.

then he just needs to stay in his ******* bathroom until the pandemic goes away. Ive been going to the gym since May and have been fine. All of my friends that like to dine out, go to bars, and go on cabin vacations have caught the coronavirus wattttt

You know that the virus spreads easier in indoor, poorly ventilated areas. Also exerting ones self is more likely to have the virus travel farther.

Fuck having bars open though. Going to one is just asking to get sick.

Doing hard exercise with a mask on is dangerous. We have mandatory mask laws here and even they don't make you wear it when exercising or playing sports. I'd look up the dangers of restricting your breathing while exerting yourself.

Its dangerous if you're working out at a high intensity so the solution is simple, just lower the intensity of your workout. If you run at a 10 mph pace without a mask, run at a 7(Or whatever feels comfortable) with a mask and you'll be fine.

I keep hearing that gyms are cesspools to spread disease but so are bars yet they get to stay open. Its funny that one actually makes you healthier and the other is objectively terrible for your health(most people at bars don't drink in moderation lets be real). I miss the gym though and I don't drink so my opinion is biased.

when they reopened, only ~20% of people were wearing masks, and about half of people were spraying equipment. One of my gym "friends" even mocked me for wearing a mask and maintaining distance from him.

Now they say masks are mandatory at all times. But they don't enforce it. Now about 80% of the people at my gym keep a mask on at all times. The others either don't wear their mask or they leave their nose uncovered.

I don't trust the spray bottles they leave around the gym, and it's not convenient to go and find one each time, so I just carry my own disinfecdtant spray

I don't have any trouble exercising with a mask on unless I do an exercise that makes me breathe heavily, like weighted lunges or generally any intense leg exercise. I never do cardio at the gym because I find it boring. I prefer to run outdoors

I dont blame you, I go to a YMCA in a wealthy area and they keep everything in check here. A sweaty golds gym would be a concern for me.

It seems that some disinfectants require the surface that's sprayed to be left alone and wet for like minutes at a time, from what I quickly saw in some googling. Need to look into it some more, but are just simple spray and wipes effective?

More fat people results in more doctor and hospital visits and more drug prescriptions, great for government and healthcare business, gyms are bad for those industries.

You can say "hurr durr then don't go" but the fact is that's not going to be the only way it effects people. You catch it at the gym and you go to the supermarket any time after, you risk infecting people. It's not like you and the virus will forever be contained in that gym, it effects everyone. Period.

Yeah I figured hes a troll but its what it is.

Wearing a mask helps with everything that you brought up. If Im at the gym I wear a mask and probably bring two. If Im at the the grocery store after the gym, I wear a mask. Hell I walk outside and I wear a mask.

And I get what youre saying about working out outside but you have to understand, during the summertime in some areas thats literally impossible most parts of the day and the parts of the day where it is feasible you have everyone going at the same time which can also risk a spread of the disease.

A bit of me wanting my gym to open up is selfish too, Ill admit that. Ive been working out outside and doing body weight exercises for five months. I miss benching, rowing, hitting the heavy bag, using the elliptical etc.

I have not seen 1 person here wearing a mask while doing any form of exercise. And we have flattened the curve here to where it's almost non-existent. But I'll take your guys word for it, America is doing so well after all.

One infected airline employee, who visited a pair of Oahu gyms after the training started but before he or she learned they had contracted the virus, set off a new infection cluster at the two gyms. There are now 20 positive COVID-19 cases connected to infection outbreaks at those gyms, which state officials have not named. That makes 44 cases in total that tie back to the training.

Granted, this doesn't seem as bad as the plan to allow 2000+ college students engage in a "modified quarantine" (basically where they would be trusted to only go between campus and dorms, instead of a strict lockdown, for 14 days). Or, for non-Hawaii students who can't get a dorm (because they cut occupancy by 1000 to satisfy CDC guidelines) and have to find off campus housing.
