| Lopen 09/27/17 1:33:33 AM #113 | +SPD/-ATK Rogue Dagger+ Reciprocal Aid Ignis Close Counter Seal Attack 3 Threaten Speed 3/Attack Smoke 3 Basically idea is he facetanks everyone and then lowers ALL THE STATS by a billion, and either the rest of the team kills everything he's crippled, or he duels since he can do that when his opponent's stats have all dropped by 5-7 after the first round. Plus he can chunk dudes whenever Ignis is up despite having like no attack normally cause his Defense is really high (base is 30, goes up to 35 with Rogue Dagger+ up). He's actually really tanky vs non mage units. Pretty respectable HP and Def, never gets doubled. RES is a problem but yeah luring mages away is usually viable and he's not getting doubled vs them so he can take one. On the plus side he can actually usually hurt mages pretty well since they usually have low Def so his terrible attack matters less against them. I haven't actually given him Attack Smoke 3 yet, but I do have an extra Lyn to give it to him. I think that'll help him a lot. Threaten Speed 3 hasn't been necessary most of the time, though it is kinda cool to let allies double more often-- Matthew's usually doubling without it since his base speed is 37 (mine is 38 cause he's +1). Part of me is kinda keeping my ear to the ground till I really need it cause I feel like Attack Smoke 3 will be something that might be attainable easier in the not too distant future. Unfortunately I kinda think Close Counter is a must for the build to be more than a niche thing (since Rogue Dagger and I think Attack Smoke don't function if you don't attack) and I doubt most people have an extra Takumi laying around, but it works pretty well! --- No problem! Like the first Infernal I played against after building him was Infernal Valter which you couldn't really bring a tank whatsoever to that one. YOU WILL RESTT.... IN..."-- Roode didn't let him finish but it was hilarious. I mean I know, they wanted to stall 3 weeks, but I think literally just being off TV all that time would've been better than the previous weeks and it would've made the Taker thing unexpected too. --- No problem! | Lopen 09/27/17 12:11:17 AM #109 | Just beat Infernal Ninian + Hawkeye with Matthew Serra Cherche and Adult Tiki Tiki baits out green mage, kills him on the counter attack, then Cherche flies up and kills the Lancer they send over there. Matthew stall tanks everyone else and slowly whittles them down with Ignis charged daggers, which came up really often cause of Close Counter. Feels good man. Don't think I could've done that easy with any other configuration of my units really. Matthew's tank cred was definitely put to the test there. He was pretty much unkillable with all his debuffs + Spur Def 3 on Serra + S Rank Serra support though. Was surviving like 4 attacks per round, then getting healed to full with reconcile. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Scarecrow has already been built and established in Batman Begins, and is mostly just used as a minor callback thing in TDKR. Eddie Brock doesn't actually appear before Spiderman 3. That stupid lunatic lariat, and dirty deeds never looks naturally executed. Rollins has a buncha stupid stuff where it looks like he's dancing around the enemy and they're falling down with him-- he's just a bit too light on his feet with this stuff. Blockbuster he's too far over their head. Slingblade has gotta be the worst move on the roster too-- though maybe I just hate it so much because Finn Balor is also using it. Like he puts on this big front but then he has a lot more self doubt in the thought bubbles-- Zemus's CORRUPTING HATRED has him actually being kinda straight up cowardly in the last dungeon. | Lopen 09/25/17 4:07:09 PM #338 | I will reiterate that I do actually like Cecil though. I just feel like his fans tend to exaggerate how much depth and uniqueness there is to the guy. Random Lawful Good guy is something that isn't done to death in FF, and he's likable enough without veering into boring for me, but that's all he really is when it comes down to it. I do think Kain and Rydia have a lot more going for them though. A lot of this is reading the thought bubbles in FFIV: DS when you enter menus at various points in the story which I think fleshes those two out more than most. Like Kain definitely has some underlying jealousy towards Cecil he's dealing with that lets Golbez use him-- it's not just "mind control lol." That's there without the thought bubbles too to some extent but it's more subtle and kinda dumbs it down to both of em liking Rosa which I'm not sure quite fleshes it out enough for my tastes. Rydia gets less out of that, but I do like how in the final dungeon (Zemus's corrupting HATRED) she has some moments where she's wondering if maybe she should just be hanging with Eidolons and not totally forgiving Cecil for his part in the bomb thing. Rydia's just got the most going for her in general in terms of depth with or without superior DS Version though. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I think a lot could be gained by Cecil not fighting the Baron dudes in the Kaipo inn, or having him encounter them and somehow talking out of it, then having it come to force a bit later-- and maybe having the bombs be something a bit more subtle so Cecil sorta has a "was this intended?" moment. Using the Red Wings attack on the spoony bard's castle to really be the tipping point of "okay yeah these guys I'm with are really bad news now wtf." But yeah basically there's no real progression there. It basically feels like Cecil's already made the decision and he's just carrying it out. No real building to it, hesitation in doing it, or second guessing after the fact. Maybe it's a fault of the execution more than the vision, but I ain't dealin in theoretical characters. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I mean that arc basically goes: - Cecil has some misgivings about the last thing they did, struggles with it a bit - Cecil speaks up - Baron gives Cecil bomb - Baron dicks over Cecil repeatedly. Not really any development beyond the Kaipo Inn there, and I feel even that is being generous. Most of the plot there is Cecil getting in a position to strike back more than having any sort of internal struggle over whether to do so. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I guess all you need to appease Gravy is to cosplay as the opposite alignment for part of the game. Kain Rydia and Golbez-- hell, Rubicante-- are all significantly less cliche characters with more depth from that game imo. Not that one dimensional characters are even bad but listing Cecil as one who isn't because the game gives him a cosmetic change is hilarious. --- No problem!
