FFS look at Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins reuniting in the first place. Getting 2/3rds of the Shield back had people going nuts, you think the full unit with the flak-jackets, theme, and entrance through the crowd is gonna get booed? Not even Roman Reigns can poison that well.

Yeah we're too smart for it! That's why when Goldberg came back solely for the purpose of selling a video game, we totally didn't cheer for him and chant his name when he came out last year!

We also hadnt seen goldberg in forever. And his matches with Lesnar DID turn out to be awesome. A match between the shield and the fucking Miztourage doesn't hold much potential for incredibleness.

Plus for a nostalgia act to work the participants have to have GONE AWAY even just for a little bit.

We have gotten absolutely no reprieve from the Shield members aside from that injury Rollins took.

Even with the DX reunion they had to wait a full decade and for Shawn to take another break for it to work. It still only worked entirely because Shawn is almost universally beloved and Cena hate took pressure off of Trips.

And also I wouldn't really call it getting worked as much as like, I like the Shield. They're more than the sum of their parts. It was a terrific act and gimmick and they had fucking amazing matches almost every single time (people compare Shield to other factions, yeah, but in terms of match quality alone there's no faction in the history of American wrestling even close in that regard, even if they lack the cultural impact of DX/NWO).

It's the best thing that's been on TV since I started watching again apart from, idk, late 2012-early 2013 heel Punk and...I guess Bryan but I'd even put them close with him

So yeah I am on board with them returning for a match, whoever it's against. To me that has nothing to do with a failed Reigns push. And that's how I see most of the crowd reacting.

This is not the same desperate "get Reigns over" tactic they've used before. With Rock and everyone holding up his arm in victory, with him retiring Taker, or him beating HHH at WM, that was all "Roman Reigns", so the fans didn't buy it - because it's still Reigns winning worked matches. Doesn't matter who or when or what, fans know it's a work so they don't buy it. Him being scripted to go over Cena isn't going to make people like him because their concerns aren't to do with him needing to win big matches.

The Shield is a separate act (that also includes two popular faces), an entirely different presentation. It's not the same.

A Shield reunion should get cheered right away (though it might not last too long) but if they managed to set it up so that Reigns comes out to save Ambrose and Rollins somehow that would probably sour the whole thing (luckily there doesn't seem to be any logical way for that to happen). It's definitely going to lose its luster the moment it starts looking like Ambrose and Rollins are just there to make Roman look strong.

The Shield is the time Reigns actually looked good. It's not the same as "Singles Thoroughbred Reigns Beats Everyone, Cheer Him!!!" The Shield speaks for itself.

They key would probably to bring back the appeal of the original Shield. Promos in the back where Ambrose would control a lot of the conversation, Rollins would come in with a few comments and Reigns would punctuate the promo with a "BALEE DAT."

If we got old fashioned "Shield surrounds the ring and issues a beat down on helpless fool" moments.

Where there's an actual sense that they're the Shield unit instead of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins wrestling on the same side of the ring.

And, of course, if we got some big NXT debut to combat them (SAnitY/AoP/hell maybe The Undisputed if they want to rush them up quickly).

More than likely it's a one-off that reunites very late before the PPV so they can keep any potential Roman backlash to a minimum. It'll come and go too quickly for fans to realize "holy shit I think we were cheering Roman Reigns."

I mean it's pretty obvious at this point we're getting Roman/Brock one-on-one at WM to finally give Reigns his big win over Lesnar. All this middle act is a desperate attempt to get Roman cheered before that day comes. I mean look at what they're doing. Give him a big win over the other "controversial" star in Cena (fancy way of saying babyface that gets booed), set up a Shield Reunion, probably have him feud with some proper heels along the way (finally gotta beat Samoa Joe!), etc.

The Shield reunion will probably be the equivalent of that brief period in late 2015 when Roman actually was over, because it played to the emotion that "God damn we are so fucking sick and tired of the Authority angle and God save us from a Sheamus title reign."
