A lot of people find themselves in prison because they couldnt afford a real lawyer, and their court appointed lawyer has too much on their plate to provide a well planned, thought out, and executed defense, so a lot of people take plea deals because its less time, not because they necessarily did it and want to minimize their time. If you had the choice between 5 years for admitting to it(plea deal) or mount a shoddy trial via public defense where if you win you are free but if you fail you get 30+ years....

Thats the reason I am wary of various things because you need to look at it from the perspective some people are in the position they are in through no real fault of their own.

Where I work I love when people pay with cash because its more goodies for me to hunt through being a collector and all that. However fuck people who pay with a S100 or $50 note when you just open or their total is very small. Thats my main annoyance with cash. Though I can either cash it out or have my manager break it down into 20s....we aren't a bank and customers should be aware or this or at least CARE.

I was working at a store on a street with no less than 3 banks in a few block radius when a person comes in with a $100 note early in the morning after the bank deposit was just made. I didnt have the cash to break it down nor enough in my drawer to give him change. We told him to go to one of the several banks easily within walking distance and he looked at us as if we were speaking a foreign language, then came back like 30 minutes later telling us how another business was able to do it for him(but again, not a bank).

I use cash sometimes for smaller purchases to get rid of some one dollar bills. mostly I use a card though. And I always try to have cash on me because I might find a use for it while im out and I do not want to be one of those "absolutely no reason at all to carry cash" when im in a store where the card system have gone offline randomly or something.

I spent another two hours or so making my spreadsheet look good

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QO-Xb3FctCVKDATSRh9Jw4Dcu-_sz5E969X_9-bGecw/edit?usp=sharing

with a spot of $17.83

I have 100.05 troy ounces of silver split between things I have bought, found for face value, found for free, and gifts I have been given.

value: $1,783.99
cost: $1,310.11
net: $473.88
total pieces: 105

Mainly other than adding stuff I've found or bought, I massively expanded my order history to note date of purchase and the net cost on the order. The 10 ounce bar was a good ijnvestment at +$29, and the kilogram bar, despite paying like $40 in tax on it, was also a worthy investment as of today's spot with +$25 I also want to mark spot price of order and net at time of order, too, when I look up the spot prices later.

Very nice package and presentation, but thats $35 for an ounce, when I can buy this and call it a day

https://www.jmbullion.com/1-oz-silvertowne-silver-bar/

However, my theory is buy the cheapest brand new bullion(so i tend to avoid the slightly cheaper listings for "random design used bar) you can find. If there is a benefit to buying that Pamp Suisse I'd be interested in hearing it. I know selling back the PS bar there might be a bit of a higher premium because its so nice in package, but I dont know if its worth it.

I dont know why it discolored like that, though as pointed out silvertown is a budget mint, generally their prices are slightly cheaper than other budget bars, but a tad more than "random used bar" listings. Once I saw those spots going purple I decided to store it in a zip loc bag. I have smaller silver ingots that have tarnished and turned slightly orange, but once I got capsules for them the one hasnt gotten worse and none of the ones that did not tarnish started to.

Did you pay $800 for the silver?

Ignoring that image for a second, lets go into my Ag spreadsheet. It has not been updated with a few odds and ends(when I get my newest addition, a 5ozt silver bar I will go through an audit everything) but as of right now:

so here are my totals with a spot price of 17.83

bullion(such as pictured above. bars/coins/ingots/whatever not created by a gov't mint and has no stated face value)

81.282 ozt
1,316.54 PAID
1,449.46 VALUE
+$132.92 NET

Coins(such as american quarters, dimes, nickels, silver eagles, half dollars, and a canadian dime all with silver content)

13.5202ozt
$10.80 PAID
$241.065 VALUE
230.265 NET

combined totals

94.802 ozt
1690.33 VALUE
362.99 NET

So, I am ahead by 363 dollars based on todays spot price. What really is keeping me ahead are the coins I either find for free or find for face value, and then gifts ive been given. The bullion I have bought I am ahead but ever so slightly.

another thing to note, helly, is that hunting through one dollar bills will not make you rich, and you very well could go through a thousand bills and find absolutely nothing interesting.

However as I've mentioned in the past it is a free hobby, and you never lose money. So part of the appeal is how you could find something worth a few hundred to a few thousand dollars but those things are exceedingly rare, another part is the fact it costs nothing.

I save every dollar bill series 2003A and before. You might not want to do this because, truthfully, there is no premium on series 2003A and I suspect in a hundred years they would still be worth a dollar. For me, thats when one dollar bills start to become scarce(2003A and prior) and it makes the hunts a little more interesting knowing I am almost gauranteed to find something every time I get out a large quantity.

So, do I just like, go to my bank and say, "Can I get a thousand 1's", or do I have to call beforehand.

Probably not going to get a thousand out, it was an exaggeration.

I rarely go into banks asking for large amounts of bills, since I am lucky enough my bank ATMs will let you withdraw one dollar bills(depending on the machine, either 40 or 195 at a time). So that is how I do it.

A bank should be able to accommodate your request, though I am not sure. Calling beforehand and being nice could work. I'm not sure. I feel like it shouldnt be a problem but I can't say.

What you also need is a "dump bank" where you take your money and deposit it when it is done. Again, my ATMs let me deposit paper money in them so I don't need to go inside to do this. You need a dump bank for a couple reasons, namely you dont want to risk getting the same bills back in the future, and your tellers would get annoyed and likely refuse to give you so many ones if they knew you were just going to bring them back in a couple of days.

All that to consider. For me, like I said, my bank ATMs allow me to do this. As far as going inside I am not too experienced.

It's Silvertown. Their stuff always looks like shit, but its typically the cheapest you can get if you just care about weight.

Yeah. I am not sure why it discolored like that, not really knowing much about the properties of Ag, but yes it is Silvertowne, and yes I bought it because it was the cheapest kilo bar I could find. Not that I take this investing too seriously(but taking too casually is a mistake even if I don't have that much invested) but to me silver is silver. I could have spent like $20-50 more on the kilo to get something nicer, but I didn't see a point.

I think because its a method of payment that incurs no fees like how credit cards have that transaction fee. Though there are other methods of payment and stuff I havent fully explored such as eCheck or bank transfers that also(at least on one website, jmbullion.com) are eligible for the 4% discount. So maybe in the future I can explore those options. Bullion websites are very thrifty and they tend to pass costs onto consumers(hence paying with check to avoid it) or just be cheap, like how when you get shipped the stuff it comes in an unceremonious package with very cheap presentation(which is fine with me)

I also make sure to spend $100 minimum to get free shipping each time. If i am going to spend money frivolously when buying investments, I'd rather it be a dollar more on a bar that has a cooler design vs shipping. Though oftentimes I just opt for the cheapest bars with a design I kinda like.

On most sites I've seen you get a 4% discount for using a paper check you mail in. So, despite it taking way longer than a credit card would, that is what I do.

So you place an order, mail in a check, they deposit it, and you must wait for it to 100% clear your bank, their bank, the bank of Time and Space, and then they ship it out.

So buying stuff can easily take 10+ days. You gotta be patient.

This is what is called a "radar" because the serial number is a palindrome.

anyways, this might be worth around $10, but the condition is not so great. But it is a serial number pattern people collect and actively search for. I have a few in my collection as it is.

I had thought, for me, that the process of checking bill serial numbers had become too automated. I have learned how to go through bills very quickly, but I had assumed I missed an eye for this shit that takes more than a second to realize what it is.
