Be patient, Jen. We just need to wait for it to stop trickling up. Then it'll trickle down.

This is why we need a trickle up economy. Put money in the hands of people that will actually spend it and support small businesses and implement value added taxes so that all these gigantic companies have to pay their fair share. #YangGang

This.

Corporations have been using loopholes to avoid paying taxes for decades. This isn't something that started with Trump.

Many corporations pay less tax than middle class citizens.

Politicians on both sides are aware of these loopholes but both are unwilling to do anything about them.

The argument for keeping the loopholes is if the U.S. won't give the corporations these massive tax breaks than another country will and they'll move there. Whether you agree with that argument is up to you.

Although the reason politicians allow it is likely because corporations provide more than significant contributions to their campaign funds (again, both sides).

"The problem existed before Trump"

And that coincides with the fact a lot of us have been pointing out all along, which is that all modern presidents are terrible about this, Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan... They don't step on their donor's toes.

Every single person who works at each of those companies pays income taxes, and quite a lot of their revenue is subject to sales taxes. You can make a case that tax should be applied at some other step but if you stop and think about it for a moment, it's not obvious at all that there should be. This is just thoughtless emotional baiting.
Uh, we pay the sales tax. They don't.

Whats the ins and outs of this? Have they paid the tax theyre required to pay but received so many other tax breaks that their net tax contribution is zero?

or have they literally paid zero dollars in tax all year? Because that is criminal lol

Not really. Do you send the sales tax check to the IRS? No, the company does. You pay it in the sense that prices are higher because of it

First sales tax is paid by the consumer (us), not the companies, although you could say they collect it from us and then pass it along. Now sometimes you will see specials where they state "They will pay the sales tax for you" but in such cases they are just giving you a discount equal to what the sales tax would have been (and in fact reducing the sales tax in the process since it's based on the total amount sold..so less of a discount in fact).

MEanwhile there have been loopholes and significant tax cuts on the wealthy since Reagan, and presidents on both sides have had many chances to get rid of them, or reduce them at least. Even just as recently as Obama, he had both control of the house/senate and was president for a year. He could have wiped them all out, in fact there was absolutely nothing stopping him (at least Clinton etc didn't have as much power and would have had to fight for it....but he didn't even try either).

So you can vote Dem or you can vote Rep, it doesn't matter because in my entire life of 30+ years of voting, it's never made a damn difference at all. Everyone that gets in that position is bought by the corporations and rich, and that is just the way it works.

Even if we did get a Bernie etc into office, it's highly likely that the corps would just focus hard on preventing a majority in the house or senate so they could just block anything that way. Money is power, and people with money are not going to support laws that take money away from them, so yeah, I don't see the loopholes and tax cuts for the wealthy going anywhere soon.

Not really. Do you send the sales tax check to the IRS? No, the company does. You pay it in the sense that prices are higher because of it, but is the same thing not true for all the rest of the taxes down the line? You pay the corporate tax and the employees income taxes just as much. Companies don't even have to show you a sales tax on a bill. They could just charge what they charge and handle the sales tax internally in a way that's completely invisible to the customer. They don't do that because leaving it off the sticker price creates the illusion of lower prices. One place does that and everyone else has to follow suit to compete.

lol the back peddling.

But we have people yelping about people getting food stamps. How is that for irony! Check the record and you'll find that Trump hasn't paid any NY property taxes since the late 1970s.
