I feel like this mostly only applies to N64/PS1 era. NES and SNES era are timeless. GCN/PS2 and beyond are too recent to be forgotten.

Banjo-Kazooie is the perfect example.

Plus, looking back on these games today, out of the 3 big ones in the poll, Luigi's Mansion is still probably considered the best in the series, which gives it a big edge. Meanwhile there are a ton of better Star Wars games, and Super Monkey Ball 1 was completely dwarfed by the 2nd one.

Not too surprising. 7 of these are sports or racing. So between the 3 others (which are the top 3), can't be surpirsed that the one Nintendo game is beating a Star Wars game and a high difficulty off-the-wall game. Just basing it off the 3 viable games, Luigi's lead isn't that big I suppose.

Ice Climbers is fine. It just has a learning curve for today's gamers, mainly due to the lack of momentum when jumping, which can frustrate modern sensibilities that aren't used to breaking from what has become the norm.

One of my game rooms is poorly ventilated, and sometimes on hot days, with all the electronics on, that room can get 90+ degrees. Never had an issue even for 10+ hour play sessions at that temperature.

I don't have anything to add to the topic, but I just tried playing the Baldi game. It's kind of boring like all those Slender Man type games where you wander around and collect things while avoiding a horror dude who just shows up and instantly kills you. It's all trial and error and I don't really have the patience to keep redoing them since it isn't really skill intensive.

People naturally get more conservative as they age (generally speaking). Often it has something to do with dealing with plenty in their life, and they just want to be left alone and relax now that they are old. So when they are always seeing news telling them things are bad, blaming them, and asking them to change, they feel like they've had enough of it and the people involved which can lead to over the top points of views that they never had when they were younger (many of these people were involved in the free love era, which says a lot).

I'm not one of those "I won't wear a mask!" people, but I would prefer to not see a movie at all if I wasn't able to be completely comfortable and enjoy it without one. My house is just fine. Masks are good for being out as a necessity.

Are you interested in ranking songs you like, among other songs that b8 likes?

I've noticed a number of topics where groups of people rank things, and also where individuals rank things. Group rankings seem fun. Something I've noticed from comments of people in group ranking projects is that the projects are often too large that it becomes overwhelming. I've seen comments of people turning down a project because of an 80 hour requirement.

So how about a project where we all rank songs, chosen by us, that only includes a few hours worth of songs. The number of songs per person would depend on the amount of interested parties.

I'm thinking the rules would be something like: You submit songs privately to me. Then after everyone has submitted, I reveal the full list (without revealing who submitted what). Those who want to engage in the ranking listen to all the songs, then everyone submits to me a ranking of them, with write-ups. Then we have a ranking topic!

This is not an official nomination topic. This topic is just about interest. Do you like the idea? Roughly how many hours worth of songs seems right without being overwhelming?

It's definitely doable in Smash. After looking at the neutered Fatalities in MK vs. DC, Smash could easily do something like that. In that game, sometimes they just explode into a blast of particles that doesn't look unlike dying to a Thwack in Smash.

Mortal Kombat really needs to get added, even though I know it won't. It feels like the most iconic fighting game series that is missing, and really should go together with Street Fighter.

Are there historically any other cases in video games where a company shits on a ton of their previous work, rendering it pointless, to make a DLC?

I'm not really sure what would be an equal comparison though. FF7 DLC where you start the game as Sephiroth instead of Cloud, where you get Sephiroth's moveset. But Sephiroth is still the main villain (not the one you are playing as though).

Ah ok. I remember people talking about that game before it came out, and whether it would have relevance toward Smash, but it seems it released close to a year ago, and it's been dead silent on mentions.

It has more to do with the amount of work involved with adding an Assist Trophy in the first place. It's not exactly a simple addition to the game. It takes a ton of man hours. And then to end up just adding them as a fighter renders much of that work pointless to the average gamer, because the Trophy is no longer special.

From time to time, but it's rare. Can't say it's distressing or not, as with most dreams it depends on the contents of the dream. Usually it's neutral enough, when I wake up for real, I'm just like "huh."

That's what I figured, but I didn't think there was any way an Assist Trophy would get upgraded to fighter. I've never heard anyone even clamoring for that one.

I wasn't sure, because when I typed in Akira Nintendo or Akira video game, it brought up a ton of stuff, including Persona characters, so I didn't know who it was even referring to.

I agree with all of your points.

In an expansion to your first point, the bad thing about regular people taking it upon themselves to exaggerate a personality is that they aren't writers. They are mostly untalented people seeking fame, so their attempts at 'writing' a character of themselves is based on what they have seen on TV, which leads to a lot of dull cliches, more than you'd get from an actual written show, so it's not even worthwhile as a low-brow drama/comedy/whatever they are going for. Most of these people lack any real improvisation skill too, which makes it bad.

In addition, many shows straight up script false drama (Kardashians, Pawn Stars, Survivor, The Bachelor, etc) and the people clearly aren't actors, so it's never able to be sold, and it's often vapid in content anyway.

I suppose I hold more of a grudge against the genre for what it did to TV for a while, especially in the 2000s when all the networks were heavily bandwagoning into it.

Wireless. Anytime you fidget and slightly bump the cord of wired headphones, it sends a muffled noise up so loudly into your ears, and that is worse than any negative that wireless has.

Yes, I still feel that way. Even if something catastrophic wipes out most of the population, which of course is likely when dealing with such exponential growth, humans are great at adapting, and some large amount of them will easily survive beyond the 1000 years. Though the living conditions in that future might be very alien to today's standards, I have no doubt humans will be around far beyond 1000 years.
