I might actually watch his 8-Eyes segment. I love seeing people's opinions of that game, because it's so divisive. I like it, but I get why others don't.

Dr. Mario is purely a competitive game. The single player is only about honing your skills toward multiplayer. The people who don't love it, just aren't mentally inclined toward puzzle games, and there's nothing wrong with that. I know plenty of people who can't play fighting games, puzzle games, or rhythm games.

7 Wonders Duel is so much better, it's not even close. That's one of the things bgg actually has right, with 7WD in the top 20, and 7W only barely in the top 100.

Seeing all the gameplay games die early, and now some of these higher ranking things...

Specifically seeing Unfinished Swan, I just know a stinker like Edith Finch is going to crack the top 10, which is probably one of the worst 'games' of the last 15 years.

Super Meat Boy is the 2nd best platformer of the last 20 years, behind Celeste. Celeste is harder, so it's probably not long for this world in the ranking.

The amount of unlockable playable characters was a fun diversion from the platforming challenge, even though most of them weren't very good, since the game felt designed around Meat Boy himself.

Making a topic is an idea, though a lot of times I play through games (especially puzzle games) in spurts, and might leave them alone for months at a time.
Baba is such a fun game to watch and hear about other people's experiences. I got two people I personally know to play the game, and watching them stew over the puzzles and think out loud, and seeing how they work toward the solution is interesting.

Been replaying Super Meat Boy for probably my fifth time now and am currently beating the hell out of it worse than I ever have before. Game of the decade for me (and Binding of Isaac literally being #2).

That said, to your point, yes, it's weird that it got as big as it did. Why do I have a shirt with Meat Boy on it? Why did I buy the spin-off game with Dr. Fetus as its only character?
Nice choice.

Aww yeah, meat boy tshirt bros.

Difficulty isn't really a concern for me. The "narrative" of the puzzle is way more important - by which I mean the wonder & confusion when you first see the puzzle, to the roadblocks you hit when you try the obvious stuff, to the satisfying eureka moment when you solve it. The Witness does this by chaining 5-10 puzzles together, so it's really smooth, but feels kinda diluted by the sheer # of panels. Baba is the absolute master of this, the mental journey that every single level takes you through is masterful. Portal totally masters puzzle narrative too, but with much easier puzzles. Other great examples are Monster's Expedition and Void Stranger.

Sausage was a little too rough with its puzzle design so you hit walls constantly. Snakebird was similar, so even though its puzzles were easier, I bounced off of it even faster. Cocoon is so smooth that it ends up being totally flat, so you end up at the solution without having to think or actually solve anything.

In this regard, puzzle design is no different from other level-based game design. Celeste's levels have the same kind of eureka-based narrative flow, and so I don't think the enjoyment of Celeste is particularly different from Baba. It's just that one uses action mechanics and one uses sokoban mechanics. Unless you're physically bad at one of those mechanics, you should be able to enjoy both about equally.

That said, you kinda need difficulty to deliver the strongest eureka moments. It's like hot sauce - they're all delicious, but if you like spicy food, you're gonna need to keep escalating the heat to get the same enjoyment. That's why I can't say a game as easy as Portal is the "best" puzzle game. But if you think ketchup is spicy, you're gonna like Cocoon a lot more than Baba, and Mario Wonder more than Celeste.
This post sums it up perfectly, and better than I could have.

I love that you compared Baba to Celeste, because they are both in my all time top 10, and your reasoning is dead on.

I just finished Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and was thinking about getting another puzzle game for the Switch (for portability). Sounds like Baba Is You could be a fun one to check out.
It is one of the most unique games I've ever played. But if you get it, just be aware that it is insanely hard. It will melt your brain. But if you stick with it, you will find it so rewarding. If you give in to looking up solutions, it will send you down a path where you will lose appreciation for the game. Because, if you look up one, what personal drive will stop you from looking up more. And when you look up more, you have removed the game from the game; there is no real story or dexterity required...it is 100% puzzle. You won't have the desire or patience to suffer while your brain explodes staring at the same level for 3 hours, so you'll just look them up in less and less time, and you won't get these euphoric rushes as the solution finally clicks after hours. You will take the easy way out. Only get Baba Is You if you have the fortitude to put your brain through hell. The level design for the game is some of the best I've seen for a puzzle game; nothing feels repetitious. The game is constantly adding new mechanics, and keeps using them in ways that feel fresh. And if you do plan to get it, don't look up anything in depth about it. One of the things that kept blowing me away was how deep down the rabbit hole you start going. I just kept wondering when or how or what the end of the game was going to be, and it kept doing things.

It's not a game for everyone as you can see from the feedback here. The game will lull you into this false sense of confidence with the tutorial levels where you get impressed with the novelty while solving stages in 5 minutes. Then it crushes you. If you do play it, make a topic here about your ongoing experience!

2024 will be the year of the Smash killer. This game becomes playable, and the MultiVersus juggernaut gets an official release.

You are though. It is a really good game with an experience you can't get anywhere else, but it's not a card game experience. That's all you need to know to play it. If you can't appreciate that because of some sad ego thing, that's a different issue.
I feel like saying "experience you can't get anywhere else" isn't exactly an honest praise. It mixes a basic card game with a basic escape room. Some people might like a game like that with several genres, but some might also like them fine tuned. If I made a game that was light gun rail shooter mixed with The Sims, it might be unique, but I don't think it automatically is good out of principle.

Sad about that ad hominem at the end.

It is true though that's it not really a card game, so don't go in with that expectation. Mystery is more like it.
I mean, if you've ever played an escape room game (digital or real life), then you will find the mystery hilariously basic.

I'm not shitting on the game per se. But you really have to be lacking in multiple genres of games to really appreciate it, because if you have experience in any of them, you will find it so plain.

A Hat in Time is the proper winner of these 10 choices.

I will elaborate on Inscryption though, because I have strong feelings toward it.

It is the kind of game where your mileage will vary based on what kind of stuff you've played. If you are a BIG card game and board game fan, you will definitely find it lacking, because it simplifies a lot of mechanics in superior games. But it's made to appeal to a casual fanbase that hasn't really discovered that type of game yet. Think of it as a watered down version of MTG, mixed with those mobile escape room games from 15 years ago. It is better or worse depending on your prior history in the strategy card game genre.
