Man meanwhile I feel like anything over 100 years before it's completely inevitable for us to die out is a bit too optimistic

Yes, I still feel that way. Even if something catastrophic wipes out most of the population, which of course is likely when dealing with such exponential growth, humans are great at adapting, and some large amount of them will easily survive beyond the 1000 years. Though the living conditions in that future might be very alien to today's standards, I have no doubt humans will be around far beyond 1000 years.

what's gonna kill us all? it'd be a hell of a show for it to be something of our own making, and anything natural probably would've killed us already and has less of a shot with our technology to mitigate it
