They were sent by the federal government to stop people from....placing grafitti on federal buildings. To stop that, unmarked federal police have thrown peaceful protesters into unmarked rented vans and detained them without charge. Let me spell it out even more clearly. If police had proof that these specific individuals were rioting and looting, regular, local, identified police could have arrested them and charged them with specific acts they say they have proof of.

That's not what happened here. So they either had proof, but decided not to send the regular police or they had no proof and sent unmarked, unaccountable, secret police to kidnap people and throw them into vans.

If they didn't have proof, they simply had to go off things like "wearing black" or "looking like Antifa" or simply protesting.

Everything from the start of the second paragraph on is fascism. If you support it, you're supporting fascism, whether you frame it as being anti rioter and looter or some other way. The vast majority of people are anti riots, yet only a subset cheer the onset of fascism. Stop, there's still time to get off this road you're going down.

Even conceding for the sake of argument that each and every one of these people were rioting and looting, federal secret police is an illegal and authoritarian response to that. Supporting that is blackshirt shit. Antisemitism and homophobia have nothing to do with BLM. BLM is an explicitly anti-homophobia and anti-transphobic cause, and antisemitism is generally rolled into their anti-bigotry stances. There are always members of informal groups that don't live the values of the group, but to say that discredits the group means that all groups that have ever existed lack validity.

There was a ton of anti-black sentiment in the suffragette movement, tons homophobia and sexism in the black civil rights movement, and there's tons of racism in the LGBT rights movement. All of them were and are still legitimate.

The only thing that effects the validity of the core message of a group is the core message of the group.

I probably shouldn't respond to this seriously considering the tone that's already been set in this topic but here we go. Police abolitionists want to create a world where social issues are addressed up front, rather than on the back end through violence. They generally have a world view that says crime is literally the most extreme evidence of a social failure, such as a failure to house people, a failure to educate people, a failure to provide a real chance at economic success, a failure to provide drug treatment etc. Police in that world view are a tool the state and a dysfunctional/oppressive society uses to uphold these unjust practices and criminalize and imprison people who are considered disposable or who transgress in any way that upsets dominant social groups. Not unrelatedly, they trace the history of police back to slave patrols, forward to union busters, then to the infiltration and oppression of civil and economic rights groups throughout the late 19th and all of the 20th century.

They think that instead of having people with the unique function and authority to use violence to "control" social problems, we just address those problems directly. Considering the history and function of police in their view, they are fundamentally illegitimate. So all the resources that go towards them and more should be shifted towards addressing the root causes of crime: economic insecurity and ethically bankrupt culture. So police are defunded and there is a massive reinvestment in mental health/healthcare, housing, education, the environment, increased economic power for workers, and other important issues. This decreases crime so substantially that there can be a shift away from punitive solutions and toward a justice system focused on personal and community rehabilitation and restitution and connecting people with the resources they need to go down a better path when they do stray.

Bush's wars killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, displaced millions, imposed unwanted neoliberal economic "reforms" on Iraq, lead to the rise of ISIS, destabilized the whole region, cost trillions of dollars that we set on fire and used to kill people instead of improving people's lives here or abroad, etc. And that's just one aspect of just foreign policy. I think people should think a lot more seriously about the chain of events they could be putting into motion when they call the police on someone and what information they give. And I think we could creates a system where someone other than someone with a gun/trained in violence would show up for a report of a counterfeit bill or a drunk guy.

I don't think our society has a problem recognizing the humanity of police officers. Too often, we dehumanize the people they police and reduce them entirely to hulking masses or quick movements or thugs. Meanwhile, we are demanded to view all police-citizen interactions from the officer's point of view, told to think about their fear, their need to get home safe to their family, the abuse they endure, etc. In fact, the law literally requires all of this of citizens and judges, but none of it from cops.

Cops are some of the most humanized people out there.

But Rogan is a comedian, so that shouldnt be surprising. He liked Yang and Gabbard, and has voiced support of both Bernie Sanders and Gary Johnson in the past. Rogan has criticized the left quite a bit, but I believe thats because theyve been far more vocal in general, with politics, sports, film and at the university level. He has also hosted guests from the right, left and center.

This is about to be a very dark time for a lot of Americans. People are just being left to rot. Everyone who's about to be made homeless should camp out in front of their city hall, state capitol, Congressional buildings, and the Whitehouse.

Man, we really destroyed or at least seriously wounded our society without even knowing it. This shambolic Covid response has created so many bombs that are all going to go off at once and we're not even responding to the problems we have now, much less the ones that are being created as we speak.

State and local governments are going to be starved of taxes and will have huge deficits and will cut necessary social services right in the middle of an economic and health crisis, unless they're bailed out. Schools need to reopen, but will be indoor virus factories. If schools don't reopen, parents will collapse of exhaustion, taking the economy down with them, and children will basically miss an entire year of education, socialization, regular meals, and structure, if not more. Rent freezes are going to expire, and we didn't just do the only humane and rational thing and cancel rent and mortgages completely, so huge swaths of the population will have months of back rent due all at once, all in the midst of an economic crisis. So we cancel rent because we don't expect people can pay one month of rent, but expect them to pay several months all at once when nothing has changed? The unemployment enhancement will also run out soon which will further inflame the problems with our economy, people keeping a roof over their heads, and people's willingness to follow any future orders that keep them from working.

We really really really fucked up as a society by making the people in charge now our leaders. They've led us right into the ditch. And we can see that this is a direct result of leadership and policy because we see that this massive increase and these potential social problems aren't happening in the US, in Canada, in East Asia, it's basically only happening here and in Brazil.
