My understanding was that it's not unusual for there to be tunnels under hospitals there and that this doesn't necessarily make them "terror tunnels." There's a lot of "this is the type of X Hamas uses and the type of Y Hamas uses" without actual evidence of a connection. And this characterization is coming directly from the IDF itself. I could be wrong though because I have no experience with tunnels, terrorism, or hospitals.

Wage theft is a way bigger issue than the street theft that people want to institute fascism to reduce. The enforcement mechanisms are employee reports, public reports, and government investigations. All of which are heavily flawed, slow, and only clawback a fraction of what's stolen in the best case scenarios. The status quo relies on a brutal immigration system, a broken legal system, captured and underfunded regulators, and captured/underfunded local media.

Tl:dr it's mostly enforced on a fear and honor system, and when that doesn't work, it's frequently not enforced at all.

People, Israel's actions here have been so disproportionate and the situation before hand was so messed up that days after experiencing their 9/11, most of the world was already shocked and appalled by their response. To the point where even leaders that support them to the hilt are calling for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid. Even that nerd Trudeau.

Things being slightly better than during a time when things were already so bad we got Trump isn't exactly a win. People have felt that things aren't adding up for decades now, regardless of who is in office. And that's because the underlying reality hasn't changed. And that hasn't changed because the underlying system hasn't changed.

People now need two incomes and more work to achieve a life that's not even as good as high schooler on a single income decades ago. Education, housing, and healthcare costs have skyrocketed. Wages have stagnated compared to costs and productivity. Much of the apparent increase or even maintenance in people's standard of living has been financed by previously unthinkable levels of debt. Income inequality is growing, and along with it comes a concentration of wealth and political/economic power. Income mobility has stagnated or decreased relative to other developed countries and our parent's generation. All of this has added up to people no longer feeling that hard work will produce a better future for them and their children.

And you're asking why people don't think the economy is good? It's because tens of millions are living in quite desperation, fighting a losing battle in a system they believed to be rigged, with no meaningful help on the way. The only reason they go on is that they have families to support and stopping means ending up homeless.

I went to one recently for the first time in years and I think SpawnShadow is right. The place was clearly made deliberately uninviting. Most of the space is dedicated to standing and ordering on automated screens now. The only interaction with staff is when they yell your number out so you can get your slop and leave. They want you to eat and piss off or better yet, grab your paper bag and leave ASAP.

They think it's good to be seen threatening masculine violence against certain designated enemies, particularly socialists/labor leaders, journalists, and LGBT people.

I usually don't look at Youtube comments, but damn, they're pretty bad on this.

People understand that Hamas is a terrorist group. They don't understand the evil committed by the Israeli government/military. He called for Hamas to be eradicated or at least taken out of power. There's very few anywhere in the west that oppose that outcome. It's a little more relevant that the most powerful country in the world (where most of the people watching are from and could presumably take some action) that already has a long history of involvement in the Middle East is funding the already more powerful side.

You claim to want an unbiased account, but your posting history and this comment strongly indicates that you always just want hear whatever combination of words that would keep everyone focused on how bad Palestinians/Hamas/Iran/Arabs/Muslims are and would deflect attention away from any bad acts by Israel/the US/the West.

From what I can see, your version of a "fair" discussion is one that never arrives at what Israel needs to differently, that ignores what will happen to Palestinians at the hands of Israel before that free and fair election happens, and advocating a "demise of Hamas" as if that's something that can be achieved militarily at all, much less at an acceptable cost in terms of Palestinian lives. Essentially a blank check for Israel achieved by focusing on how bad Hamas and their supporters are.

It's very easy to ignore these things if you really want to, if you restrict voting, and have the police on your side. The only one with a potential effect is collective action if that takes the form of strikes or riots. At the end of the day, you have to affect their money or physical security.

A big flaw in our society is that people in power feel safe to say stuff like this. That shouldn't be the case. You shouldn't be able to say this and then walk around in public like it's chill. In a "freedom" loving country.

Politicians should consider it a threat to their personal freedom, their livelihoods, indeed their physical safety to become openly tyrannical.

Just straight up false. You lose worker rights every time a Republican is elected. You lose most federal agency protections. You lose rights in court. Progress that could have occurred is blocked and may never see the light of day again. Crises are handled differently.

Just as an example, Biden's student loan pause was one of the most impactful policies I've ever experienced. It saved me thousands upon thousands of dollars as I moved to a new city. I was able to buy a house, which I was directly told would have been impossible with my loans counting in my monthly debts. My parents would still be living in a tiny, unsanitary house. A Republican president wouldn't have done that. In fact, they actively worked to get a law passed banning the loan pause. That's a practical difference that happened for millions of people.

It's not laying golden eggs. Or at least it's not just doing that. It's killing community, causing the rise of fascism, oh and destroying the planet. And this guy still wouldn't accept any changes to who wields power or decides what happens. He just lightly encourages some unspecified changes to distribution, of course still made by the same people who decide the current distribution and not dispossessing them of their position. And if those people decide not to change the distribution or don't change it in a meaningful way, he doesn't have anything to say about what we should do then.

Basically, standard "I'm not like other billionaires" talk. They all say the exact same thing.

These people are authoritarian by nature. They see it as upsetting the natural order when the lower classes get to vote/exercise power, especially when people vote for things that give the lower classes more power and autonomy. They see the point of our government as a way to hand the better people the lion's share of power in society so they can lead us down the right path without the rest of us fighting and they see it as our system failing anytime that doesn't happen.

I saw her ads and they absolutely roasted her opponent, called him out for blatant corruption as a cop, without glorifying cops or going full ACAB. It's the perfect tone for a Democratic ad and way better than the other ones I saw that were essentially copy pastes and indistinguishable from a Republican ad other than being pro abortion.

It's also interesting to note that if from the river to the sea is considered inherently genocidal due to the location of Israel, it's equally as genocidal when Israel says it regarding Palestine. Actually more so because it's Israel's official government policy and they're putting it into practice as we speak. And they have the power and international support to do so.

A Jewish state is an apartheid state. The only ethnostates that aren't apartheid states are those that don't have any other ethnicities in them (because they were ethnically cleansed). There are few greater evils for a state to be founded on. And we are literally seeing an ethnic cleansing right now. A brutality towards civilians and specifically children on an unprecedented scale. The current state of Israel has no right to exist. No state that does that, or that would do that, does.

This is the crux of the issue. The only way to create an ethnostate is through apartheid and ethnic cleansing at best or outright genocide at worst. That was known and admitted from the beginning.

When people say "you're denying Israel's right to exist!", that's not the case. It's merely consistent to oppose ethnostates and x supremacist states whoever and wherever they are, because they alway come with oppression, violence, and death for non-favored group. No group is inherently superior or exclusively entitled to self determination and the only way to fool people into thinking that is by disappearing or subjugating the others.

I don't discount this because I'm a black immigrant and I sure as hell wouldn't be able to have the life I have, my sisters wouldn't be able to have the life they have without the significant progress made since the 60s. And that legislative/policy progress came ENTIRELY from the Democratic Party. But you mention the Dems of the 60s. That was the last time the Dems were a working class party and did things that upset capital.

In the time since then, the Democratic Party has shifted significantly to the right on almost every economic issue and the American people have lost affordable healthcare, pensions, unions, affordable housing, affordable schooling, worker protections, regulated banks, high paying low education/effort jobs, and direct influence over the economy with the support or acquiescence of the Democratic Party. That trend has included Biden's entire career, and the entire Obama admin and is just now starting to slow, not even reverse.

I disagree that the Dems will end up fascist, I just don't think there's anything automatic that says the party will become good enough to truly fight fascists. The Democratic Party is a party that tries to improve on social issues while not rocking the apple cart on economic issues/pissing off capital too much. It doesn't or refuses to understand the cap that places on social progress. Because of the awkward middle ground they've chosen, they get flack for not fixing longstanding issues/permanent injustices AND for upending society by caring about minorities. That's how Hilary lost. And that's exactly what's ailing Biden.

I was told they were the most moral and restrained military of all time, this seems to conflict with that. I'm sure this is just a Hamas lie and they were kidnapped and used as human shields so Israel had no choice but to vaporize them.

When have I ever said that or anything that can even be charitably interpreted as that? My main point in this topic has been that Democrats should focus on the good they've done and should try to get better so they can address people's needs, rather than insulting people.

If you're talking about that ceasefire topic, I said that actually withholding votes would be catastrophic, and that Republicans must be defeated at all costs, but that I saw no method of holding Democrats accountable if we treat them the same whether they do good things or bad things. And I got no response explaining what the path to accountability is.
